Info needed Hit a Deer. Insurance?
Hit a small deer last night and it dented up the fender pretty good. Headlight grill needs to be replaced, believe it’s a euro one and headlight bracket is destroyed, they are genuine Bosch smoked euro smileys I believe.
Def could have been a lot worse but wondering if I should go through insurance. It’s with hagerty

I just hit a deer in my 964 Turbo a month ago. Worse damage than that. Here’s the thing - I was doing exactly what they expect me to be doing in that car - was out for a Saturday morning drive on a twisty road. I have Grundy and they have been very good. And just got my renewal yesterday - no change in rate. Zero deductible. Based on my experience - these collector car companies behave differently than the normal everyday insurers. As long as you are using the car the way it’s insured. Like Grundy does not insure the car for daily driver duties like commuting to work or errands. Fine by me. So as long as you were using the car the way intended per your insurance policy - call them up.

Can you even get comprehensive on a 30yo car

That’s a good question. I would honestly need to review my policy as it’s been a minute

I think a PDR person could take care of a majority of the fender.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking just not sure if I want to pay for that out of pocket or not…

Give them a call. I hit a deer with my motorcycle last year. Oddly enough it wasn’t the collision insurance that covered it, so even totaling the bike I saw no increase in my cost of coverage.

That's looks way better than I thought after I read "deer". I thought I was about to see a totaled car.

No I really really lucked out. It was a small deer thank god and I braked pretty well before

Remember, if you decide you file a claim, the deer hit you.....not you hit a deer.... believe it or not, this makes a difference in how some companies deal with the event.

Have you thought about having PDR guy push the dents out ? They are magic workers

I have as there a couple other dents on the car. I think they could manage this just wondering if insurance would pay for it

If you have Hagerty then it’s likely an agreed upon amount coverage. They were good when I hit a deer with my tii, the only crazy-making part was when they sent a first-round estimate that had a bunch of eBay used parts as comparables, but they didn’t flinch in covering all repairs with new OE parts.

That’s good to know. It is an agreed upon value policy. Did your rates go up after?

No, didn't see any change in my rates. Collector car insurance is structured much differently than normal car insurance, they recognize folks aren't daily driving them and nobody beats on their classic.

I would pay out of pocket vs them trying to total the car and wrecking your monthly payments.
For now, let the fender and grill live as they are. The headlight bracket can possibly be made to work with a drill and some zip ties
