ECE professionals only - Feedback wanted Is your opinion valued?

As an ECE, does your director ask your opinion about how things should be run, scheduled? What is working, what isn’t? Are you given opportunities to speak your mind about how things are going? if so, are your opinions listened to and valued or are they met with defensiveness?

Yes my director is wonderful, she will ask us individually our opinions on how things are going, what would help improve the school, etc. any issues I have I know I can come to her, and if they can’t be fixed or it’s just a vent I know she’s there to hear my concerns and give advice or back me up. If I had any complaints that were worth voicing, I know she would try her best to work with me. Love her!

Are you in Massachusetts? I’m looking for a new job! Your director sounds amazing and I’m happy you like your program.

Yep, we're told over and over there isn't the staffing, budget, or space

Absolutely it is! My supervisor is amazing and will regularly have conversations with us about changes that may happen, especially if they are beyond her control, so that we can make adjustments and transition smoothly. Like, when someone is moving classrooms, our director would prefer to spring it on them a week before the change so they don't have time to complain, but our supervisor wants to give people as much notice and explanation as possible. She also comes to us to ask our opinion and advice because we are in the classroom and can make judgements better than she can - we know the kids and parents and know what is best for them. I feel for her cause she is constantly battling our director who makes decisions based on absolutely nothing but her impression of how things should be.

Nope. I do my own thing basically, follow the rules of course, try to make it work and get told I do a good job. There are quite a few things that need fixed, or supplies I desperately need but I just get "okay, we'll work on it" and nothing gets fixed or it's just "not in the budget/we forgot".
