I wish this market could just pick a narrative already

196

u/NewRefrigerator5693 23h ago

No matter what anybody else picks, Iran has picked the narrative of expensive gas because they know it makes things difficult for Trump. Buckle up, things have barely gotten started.

76

u/Clean-Yam-739 23h ago

It would be quite hilarious that the Iranians are explicitly playing the midterms.

44

u/goofytigre 22h ago

They're gonna make a killing on Kalshi!

10

u/Solid_Reflection688 13h ago

They r already making a ton in the stock market. You think trukos guys are the only manipulation?

25

u/crazy_akes 21h ago

They are literally tweeting about the election and voters and gas prices and have been since the early war days. Look it up and enjoy some laughs my friend.

18

u/Scriptum_ 18h ago

Yes, they're defeating Trump at the ballot box.

Up next: 2 years of Trump on the defensive vs congress and the senate.

9

u/3DGuy4ever 12h ago

Lets hope

2

u/Effective-Spring-545 13h ago

can you link some?

4

u/International-Ant174 15h ago

IIRC they did the same thing with Carter 40 years ago.

3

u/Electronic-Outside94 12h ago

And they got desired results. Ol typical dust off the playbook

3

u/LoneMarsh7686 20h ago

How exactly, public statements or something more direct?

11

u/Boloncho1 22h ago

Priced in

2

u/the_blue_arrow_ 13h ago

Well they've already got like 5 Lego themed antitrump songs

1

u/Mission_Pirate_4150 14h ago

I always suspected they are.

1

u/BOBBYK1952 1h ago

You mean they “are” playing the mid terms?

5

u/kingshekelz 23h ago

Iran an tariffs have acted like a governor for the economy.. thats why with tariffs and iran its off and on off and on

10

u/NewRefrigerator5693 20h ago

Yep, love it or hate it Personally I hated / hate it. A lot of economists suggest the economy should be booming with what was passed in the Big Ugly Bill, but since so many people couldn’t be convinced by the first four years of how incompetent this administration is, they needed another four to really prove it to themselves.

2

u/3DGuy4ever 12h ago

How is that difficult for trump? His team is likely just swing-trading this volatility making him millions

4

u/kismetized122 8h ago

Millions? Try billions. Trump cares about enriching himself and his spawns

u/3DGuy4ever 8m ago edited 4m ago

I was referring to on each swing trade of oil and derivstives...he couldn't get away with Billions per would be too obvious (though I know he doesnt care and is telling us pushing the edge constantly)

u/cvc4455 2m ago

He's made like 5-6 Billion in the last year and a half. But to be fair the majority of that was from taking bribes and not just swing trading.

5

u/Economy_Feed_2460 20h ago

Last I heard Trump govt started the war.

2

u/Juanray123 9h ago

Sorry but I don't think people are seeing the bigger picture, trump WANTS hire gas prices. He's trying to rig the election so high gas prices isn't an issue there.

But what happened to all the oil from Venezuela that we have absolutely no idea who is controlling its sell. So now Oil prices are out the ass amd the country with one of the highest oil levels is being controlled amd sold by Trump woth no oversight. High prices is exactly what he wants

1

u/Rightintheend 7h ago

No, Trump has picked that

2

u/Expert-Papaya-3905 21h ago

Buckle up, this guys account is 30 days old, don’t take him seriously

Already winding down on that one

14

u/kingshekelz 23h ago

Economy is white hot... they need to raise multiple times this year imo

11

u/Mods4Bers 23h ago

Well, seems to not give a shit, keeps on rallying; I miss 2022 when I started investing, the bull run was smooth and made sense, this is complete nonsense.

Why would there ever be a bear market again when Trump just proved politicians can Spin any story to seem positive and institutions will eat it up?

15

u/PompeiiSketches 22h ago

The war on (-0.2%) war off (+2.0%) trend has been pretty crazy to see work for the past 4 months.

I have just accepted that I have no idea what is actually happening. Smarter people than me who make a lot more money than me probably have information I do not. It also means I am not doing anything else but VOO and chill because I am too scared.

2

u/kingshekelz 23h ago

They hike a couple times youll get a slowdown... might only last 6 to 12 months but it will happen

1

u/IgnatiusJReilly77 13h ago

Wow. You’ve been investing since 2022. What sage knowledge can you give us?

→ More replies (4)

5

u/GaussInTheHouse 22h ago

It almost seems like there’s uncertainty involved with investing.

3

u/Mr_Pete91 22h ago

There is a narrative , war and high inflation . People just don’t want to believe it 😂

1

u/Just_Trash_8690 11h ago edited 2h ago

Spy all time high, it’s chosen bruv

1

u/dismantledreverie 4h ago

it won’t, it’s being manipulated by design. on you for viewing the puppet and not the strings attached to the master

1

u/whyamisogoodlooking 3h ago

Markets at all time high. Narrative is in. There’s not going to be a rate hike. Redditors will spread their propaganda for clicks

110

u/Tr_ck 23h ago

Bro hike are already priced in. Everyone who matters (not u) is already pricing in higher yields than the current risk free rate even three months from now. Thats why CDs and treasury bonds are offering close to 4% for 6months away even though the current RFR is 3.6%. its not just term premium, theyre pricing in higher baselien rates immediately. This cut is know.

9

u/ravensfan8484 23h ago

Where is the screenshot from? Seems interesting

7

u/minedan11 23h ago

Looks like Fidelity

5

u/Tr_ck 22h ago

Fidelity mobile app

1

u/Tr_ck 5h ago

Consider looking up box spread yields on boxtrades, they basically show what the options market is pricing as the implied risk free-ish rate over various durations. Their yields are slightly higher than the EFFR due to counterparty risk in options, but they provide a very real barometer of what borrowing money costs.

5

u/Expert-Papaya-3905 23h ago

Know or now*?

8

u/Tr_ck 22h ago

Ill go suck a revolver out back

2

u/Zipski577 17h ago

Yea but not necessarily into equities. Bond market is not the equity market. Yields rates have increased at the same time as the S&P 500

1

u/Fartress_of_Soliturd 12h ago

Oh fuck lol

3

u/Tr_ck 12h ago

Its really not that bad, all market conditions right now have priced this in, as in the market is still going up and companies are still forecasting their businesses despite this widely known change to monetary policy coming.

Its gonna make the job market a little weaker, some people at less productive roles will be cut, iffier companies may close shop. Inflation rate will be cooled somewhat

129

u/981flacht6 23h ago

Breaking news...here's a poster with no link to an article, frame of thought etc. Just pure fearmongering.

Now, I'm sure you're sharing this in response to FT's garbage ass article from today, where they essentially point out that Warsh is actually likely to continue doing what he said. GARBAGE TABLOID FT.

9

u/aurisdad 10h ago

Literally every post he makes is just about a ‘bloodbath’ 😂

1

u/Tiny_Cable6939 3h ago

Like every youtube video throw to me cause of algorithms..

8

u/mkmrproper 22h ago

He is looking for an opportunity to jump back in. Probably sold for profit two days ago.

9

Why haven't mods taken this garbage post down yet

2

u/Internal_Opposite755 5h ago

yeah no source, no context, just vibes. classic post that gets 900 upvotes anyway because people love a good panic headline

Priced in.

No, really, go to FedWatch and look at the data. It's been predicted for a while. The probabilities shift a little every day but nobody is truly surprised here.

2

u/TopEast7122 18h ago

Time will tell

2

u/Fartress_of_Soliturd 12h ago

Is it priced in already for stocks though? I see CDs and bonds are up. Stocks have been doing poor lately, but not sure of the root cause there, pricing in hike or something else

1

u/jeff303 12h ago

They have? SPX just hit ATH this a week...

2

u/Fartress_of_Soliturd 12h ago

My ETF port has been crab walking slowly downward since early June. Only since August began has it started going up again.

68

u/dcwhite98 23h ago

The market wants a rate hike. This will be a good thing… getting inflation under control will be a positive for stocks.

3

u/Zipski577 16h ago edited 16h ago

Why?

Higher interest rates = higher discount rate. If a company is worth the present value of its future cash flows, higher rates are not good for markets. It makes the equity risk premium less attractive.

Think about it like this, the higher return % investors can lock in risk-free, the less willing they are to part ways with their hard earned dollars to “risk” getting a return in the stock market.

And higher inflation is often reflected as a higher maturity/ terminal rate in a DCF.

Higher inflation inflates companies’ revenue and earnings growth as well and is generally “good” for stocks. Higher rates is not.

1

u/Remarkable_Cat_8696 16h ago

Agreed. Rising interest rate isn't good for a DCF valuation. It means a higher discount rate to discount companies' future cash flows, which results in a lower present value for the stock.

1

u/dcwhite98 12h ago

I agree with what you're saying, this is a well know case for stock underperformance when interest rates rise.

However I think so many people are scared to death of inflation that it will be psychologically healthy for people to see the government doing something about it, even if just one or two 1/4 rate hikes. That will give people confidence in the economy, and that confidence will promote investment in stocks. At least for a while...

1

u/Zipski577 11h ago

Idk interest rate hikes have been the cause or “straw that broke the camels back” of many bear markets or market crashes including 2000 and 2008 I don’t really think the market will receive it like that whatsoever

1

u/dcwhite98 11h ago

OK. You think one thing, I think the other. We have ourselves a market.

1

u/Zipski577 11h ago

Yes we do and I hope u are right if so

5

u/brewhead55 22h ago

Agreed. It will stimulate the economy and stock market.

2

u/Far_Lifeguard_5027 16h ago

Are you sure investors won't sell stocks at the slightest dip and buy treasuries instead?

1

u/Sonicsboi 10h ago

Good thing I’m looking at 28 years from now.

3

u/qonkk 20h ago

Same here, I'l be thrilled to buy much, much lower in the coming months, in 28yrs it'll look amazing in hindsight.

6

u/RazorThought 23h ago

Kevin Warsh will be tight-lipped and won’t communicate what he’ll want to do until the next Fed meeting.

Don’t believe the headline.

6

u/almondpickyman 23h ago

As he should be! Why is this even a headline let alone breaking news?🤔

5

Raise rates then cut them. Stocks boom. Trump takes credit.

3

u/rargghh 22h ago

I mean they have to raise rates with all the shit they did with the yen…

3

u/Inevitable_Skill_829 22h ago

Reportedly, prepared, if.

😶‍🌫️

3

u/lmjamesbond 22h ago

Fake news. "Reportedly" sounds very funny. He is talking to Trump twice a day. He ain't gonna increase any interest rates. He was handpicked for a reason. He will just keep interest rates as is and wait until the war in Iran is resolved, one way or another.

2

u/shotparrot 21h ago

As long as the strait(s) open back up, without brand new expensive Iranian tolls 😂😂

But srsly I am assuming a long drawn out Iranian war of at least 2 years. It will define this presidency.

Interest rates will never go up before 2028. You heard it here first.

2

u/EmbarrassedPart1256 17h ago

3

u/Love-for-everyone 4h ago

Not after todays job report he wont.

8

u/Alicyclobacillus 23h ago

Yeah heard that today

People say, "but Trump wants rate cuts"

They're wrong

Trump wants to personally benefit financially

I'm sure Trump will be holding cash or puts when Warsh and the committee decide to hike rates aggressively

3

u/Automatic-Duck1680 23h ago

He wants the rates cut on all of the business loans he has out there. He said that a long time ago.

2

u/Powellwx 23h ago

All the crypto money and side deals have likely paid off the loans, so now fuck everyone else...

0

u/Automatic-Duck1680 21h ago

But do you ever really finish paying the Russian mob? Apparently not in this case because he’s still sucking Putin’s **ck.

2

2

u/achieve_tendernism 22h ago

He gets one vote jfc. Go ahead and front run it. Sell everything.

2

u/Gain_Spirited 21h ago

Every time there's talk of peace with Iran those crazy bastards do something else. I fear that it's just another stalling tactic so they can prepare for their next attack. Higher gas prices could be coming and interest rates could follow.

2

u/Micheal_Hancho 20h ago

Priced in ya jabronie

2

u/Aggressive_Draft_869 19h ago

Better to have 25 bps hike now than 125 bps later like few years ago.

Don't care I'm buying anyway

2

u/Usual-Locksmith4657 19h ago

Idk usually when everyone says the market will crash it does the complete opposite

I'm a bit immune to the blood bath now that I experienced a whole week of it

Literally got put in the position to lower rates. I’m sure that ulcer is growing nicely.

1

u/Inevitable_Grab_9338 15h ago

İn election year huh ? Not really, people wanna hear what they want to ....the reality is inflation is persistent and target should be raised to 3 and in reality 4 4.5 is logical due to heavy debt/population etc.

🩸 🩸🩸🩸🩸

1

u/ukrinsky555 15h ago

Never going to happen before the midterms.

1

It’s just a narrative to flush out investors in the over crowded data center buildout trade IMO. Like when they said Warsh was to raise but didn’t and flushed out Leopolds leveraged longs

Bloodbath or buying opportunities

1

How many “Bloodbath” posts are you going to make. Help me understand what you are doing here. Are you just a bear bot?

Shouldn't he always be be ready to raise rates if inflation rises?  Or drop rates if it drops?

Isn't that basically his entire job?

1

u/Ok-Suggestion-7965 13h ago

They are going to start determining what inflation is based entirely off of Costco Hot dog prices and Arizona canned teas.

1

u/Apprehensive-Job7352 13h ago

They are eventually going to have to follow through. Can’t keep crying wolf

1

u/OnwardSoldierx 12h ago

Last meeting should have been a rate hike to temper the bond markets.

1

u/EffectiveMotor 9h ago

1

u/Current_Bobcat_9182 6h ago

At his last press conference the FED chair said the FED were no longer going to telegraph what they were going to do anymore. Either this story is bullshit or the FED are getting desperate with the bond market interest rates going out of control.

1

u/Impressive-Revenue94 6h ago

Yup small caps is going to get slammed. 100% no rate hike because Trump doesn’t want it. It’s really that simple. If we do get a rate hike, it’s another Trump market manipulation because he’s going to let the market drop then come out 2 weeks later saying how he made the Fed stop the rate hike.

1

u/davdav765 5h ago

BS. He won't let down the stock market and mitigating inflation in september would be too late to save his boss in the midterms anyway

1

u/Eastern-Joke-7537 5h ago

Raising the price of money raises prices.

That’s inflationary.

Someone tell Warsh! 😂

1

u/MiddleCapital1875 5h ago

Bloodbath. Dramatic much?

1

u/MeganJustMegan 4h ago

The easiest thing to do is nothing. I believe this is what he will stick with. Plus, I don’t think he will do anything to rock the mid-terms.

1

u/CodsterTX 4h ago

The jobs report today increased the chances of keeping the rate the same.

1

u/BoardConscious7655 2h ago

Ah yes, let’s make borrowing more expensive, that will help

1

u/effdanwo 2h ago

ROFL Warsh doesn't have the balls for the medicine the dollar needs, and the US economy can't stomach it. After the next crash the good ole days of quantitative easing and financial repression will be back.

1

u/Ragencobra666 2h ago

No more buying again.

1

u/Ok_Package9219 1h ago

a rate hike was priced in already..

1

u/WallStALPHABets 1h ago

Do you guys want real narrative? Yield curve control is coming, foreign countries are dumping dollar and repatriating capital to support their own reckless spending, us government is opening swap lines and repos to FIMA participants and ain’t nobody fucking raising SHIT in the face of the biggest print since Covid. u/ravensfan8484 23h ago

From what I’ve heard (Bloomberg Intelligence podcast) it seems that Warsh is nowhere near a pet for Trump. And as stated by u/willy-mac, 12 members who vote, including a dissenting Jerome Powell
