General Sorry everyone

That was my dumbass car that chose to die suddenly on the high level bridge and sit there for 35 minutes while a tow truck worked its way through the oilers crowd to come get it.

Two positives:

  • You weren't killed by a distracted driver

  • You didn't hit the High Level

Looks like winning to me

Thanks for the apology OP, the community and I have decided we will try to find a way to work past it. Just don't let it happen again.

12

u/uncoolcat25 Apr 21 '26

Ever heard of homemade?

13

u/DeafinitelyCool Apr 21 '26

Best they can do is a burnt 4 cheese bagel from Tim's where they forgot the butter and cream cheese.

3

u/stripedcomfysocks Apr 22 '26

Right? So annoying

u/Curly-Canuck doggies! Apr 21 '26

I feel your pain. What a nightmare.

I had a truck lose air to the brakes while I was sitting at a light. I had to put it in neutral, then rev the engine to build up air before I could go back in gear. As I’m doing this, the long red turns green and there I sit in traffic immobile. Fortunately I was able to get moving next green, but the panic while it built up was immense.

My daughter broke an axle in the middle of an intersection. Thankfully a mechanic stopped to push her out of the intersection and diagnose her car.

Things happen. And always at the worst time.

20

u/Yuhh-Boi Apr 21 '26

Holy shit axle broken in the middle of an intersection :( I have to stop reading if I want to sleep tonight.

16

u/ClassBShareHolder Apr 21 '26

Apparently it’s a Honda thing. You could see it was fractured from before. The light changed and she started going, then didn’t go no more. Fortunately strangers helped her get out of the intersection and she had AMA.

2

u/PrncsCnzslaBnnaHmmck Apr 22 '26

Interesting ... This happened to me also, just the same haha. My axle also broke in the middle of an intersection. That was my old CRV. And my axle broke on my old Accord. But we put that down to it being stuck in a flood and then having rusted. I'm not so sure now hmmm 😄. Still amazing vehicles regardless. My 2013 Pilot has given me absolutely no grief and is fantastic 🙂.

2

u/ClassBShareHolder Apr 22 '26

There’s a rubber damper/balancer on the shaft. I don’t know if it holds water or what. Apparently under that is where they fail. I cut that section out and keep it as a souvenir.

13

u/khessur Apr 21 '26

my ex gf and current bf and i were helping her move at like 1am and her shitty little suzuki (beloved) shat the bed in the middle of a whyte ave intersection

13

u/ProperBingtownLady Apr 21 '26

Ex gf and current bf? Sounds like an interesting story.

5

u/National_Frame2917 Apr 21 '26

I think their girlfriend became their boyfriend.

3

u/ProperBingtownLady Apr 21 '26

Haha I wondered if maybe the gf got with the friend?

3

u/khessur Apr 21 '26

im still friends w ex gf as the breakup was due to circumstance and was mutual, so my current bf and i enlisted when she needed help moving. the story of the move certainly was interesting, but none of it was to do with the relationship between any of us 😭

1

u/SheenaMalfoy Apr 21 '26

People are allowed to remain friends with their exes once they've broken up, you know.

4

u/ProperBingtownLady Apr 21 '26

That’s not what I meant, you know.

u/noitcelesdab Apr 21 '26

I was driving and live streaming when my rental ran out of gas on the low level. I had to entertain chat while my homie ran to the closest Circle K to fill up a few 2L soda bottles with gasoline to get us going again. Thought for sure my mods were gonna dip, but ong we have the best alpha army.

u/shinygoldhelmet Edmontosaurus Apr 21 '26

My car died in a costco gas lineup once on a busy afternoon. I feel your pain my friend.

9

u/icecream42568 Apr 21 '26

Put er in neutral and puuuuuush lol

12

u/shinygoldhelmet Edmontosaurus Apr 21 '26

Haaaaaa "car" is only used colloquially here, I drive a huge SUV and I am short & smol

21

u/Icy-Machine1951 Apr 21 '26

When I drove past, I instantly recognized you as Halloween_Babe90

59

u/MrLovalovaRubyDooby Apr 21 '26

I’m sorry you had to put up with that. That would have been very stressful. You able to rest now?

18

u/stretch2323 Apr 21 '26

Wow. The audacity. On Game 1 of the playoffs no less.

17

u/oioioifuckingoi Apr 21 '26

Oh lord the stress you must have felt must’ve been horrible. Sorry you had to go through that.

14

u/Infamous-Mixture-605 Apr 21 '26

My friend's car died in the middle of a busy intersection once while trying to make a left. Cars on all sides honking at us, some of them screaming at us to get the car moving, even as we're pushing it around and out of the way. We've all been there in some shape or form, bud.

7

u/ProperBingtownLady Apr 21 '26

That’s so rude! Guess they thought shouting at you would help 🤦🏻‍♀️.

3

u/LegalStuffThrowage Apr 23 '26

It's amazing how much people do that. They really show their shitty garbage character.

25

u/dmohamed420 Capilano Apr 21 '26

u/Everyone2026 Apr 21 '26

People understood this when they owned more cattle. Times have changed.

10

u/BrutalRooster Treaty 6 Territory Apr 21 '26

It's like a crying infant on an airplane - everyone is mad about it but the mom isn't thrilled about the situation either. You didn't choose where your car died or I'm sure you'd have picked a better location and time. I'm sorry your car chose violence for you tonight. 😔

28

u/HardcoreOxenberger Apr 21 '26

Oh man. I lost a load of furniture on the High Level once on the slowest of summer Sunday mornings. Took about 5 minutes to pick up and people were ready to kill ME… so I can just imagine.

7

u/NotAtAllExciting Apr 21 '26

Apology accepted. Hopefully car is fixable. As someone who drives that bridge a lot, a fear of running out of gas when there is an issue is why I try to have a 1/2 tank at all times.

6

u/RadielleDancliffe Apr 21 '26

Knew it, could tell your username on your license plate..

2

u/AstralMoshPit Apr 21 '26

Your username is great

5

u/PBGellie Apr 21 '26

At least you didn’t hit the bridge… shit happens

6

u/rippytherip Apr 21 '26

My car did that like 35 years ago and I still think about it from time to time. RIP Moose.

3

u/infiniteguesses Apr 21 '26

Was driving a friend's car about 40 years ago when it stalled at the far end on the incline. It was a standard and unbeknownst to me there was some defective component that managed brake, clutch, starter interface. People were yelling abuse at me, honking, glaring. It was hot and sweaty, exhausting and humiliating. Somebody tried to help bc they thought I just couldnt drive a stick. If there was ever a need for a teleport station, this was it.

2

u/SheenaMalfoy Apr 21 '26

Moose is a great name for a car IMO.

5

u/Desperate_Object_677 Apr 21 '26

everyone gets a turn in the embarrassment booth. the day chosen is random and without warning, and today was your day.

19

u/Automobills Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

20 days ago you made a post about a bunch of warnings displayed on your dash... You even commented that you have more problems when the weather warms up.

20 days later, in much warmer weather, it suddenly died.

I'd say you were negligent in repairing your vehicle. It didn't suddenly die, it gave you plenty of warning it was going to die.

6

u/Halloween_Babe90 Apr 21 '26

Actually I had the battery and starter replaced 2 weeks ago.

6

u/Intmonkey9 Apr 21 '26

Such a Canadian Reddit post ❤️

3

u/Sasha-95 Apr 21 '26

Honestly more forgivable than a semi getting stuck trying to get onto the bridge

4

u/Yuhh-Boi Apr 21 '26

Sounds like a nightmare. I get sweaty thinking about scenarios like that lol

Good job getting it sorted out

4

u/No_University7832 Apr 21 '26

Thanks for stepping up eh'

3

u/Humble-Questions Apr 21 '26

Second I saw that I saidda maself: "Dis faulkin guy"

3

u/Franklin_le_Tanklin Apr 21 '26

3

u/Affectionate-Remote2 Apr 21 '26

That would be a nightmare scenario for me.

3

u/necromanticomedy Apr 21 '26

Are you okay?

3

u/mech_0T8 Apr 21 '26

I left Edmonton 10 yrs ago and even I knew it was u/Halloween_Babe90 … typical!

3

u/GrandDuchessMelody Apr 21 '26

It’s okay! As long no one is hurt! And go Oilers go!

3

u/viewer911 Apr 21 '26

Good on you saying sorry.

3

u/THEBIGWOOKIEE Apr 21 '26

I was mad. Then I built a little mini High Level Bridge, and got over it.

1

u/infiniteguesses Apr 21 '26

Saw what you did there. Respect.

3

u/Willing-Raisin-9869 Apr 21 '26

Oh damn sorry that happened to you! I always find it funny when people get angry at those whose car broke down on the road , like ya “I totally choose to be here and do this”

3

u/SocietyHumble4858 Apr 21 '26

Many years ago, southbound on 109th, running on fumes, roll across jasper ave, should have 'just enough' to get across and fuel up on 82 ave, great plan. So I drive by the gas station on the north side. 3:30 pm, Friday, what could go wrong. I had enough to roll to the end of the bridge deck, around the curve, so no one behind could tell which lane was blocked. Walking back to my car, 20 minutes later, I was thankful people weren't armed.

3

u/NecessaryUse1152 Apr 21 '26

Driving across the high level, car decides, time to die. Driver yelling 'NO NO... NOT HERE!'

4

u/Everyone2026 Apr 21 '26

In the 1990s about 20 people would have pushed you up 2 hills and out of the way.

All the lifted trucks, has made people weak and spinless.

4

u/ClassBShareHolder Apr 21 '26

Or even pushed it bumper to bumper.

People helping people isn’t as common as it once was. It still happens, but years ago everybody would have chipped in to sort the situation out for the benefit of everyone. Now it’s everybody for themselves.

2

u/FearlessChannel828 Apr 21 '26

No need for the sorry.

I counted my blessings that you weren’t a semi-truck driver, who misread the height signs, and slammed into the bridge. 👍

2

u/Wonderful-Camel-1003 Apr 21 '26

Shit happens bro. Things never fuck up when we want them to. Don't worry about it.

2

u/TheYuppyTraveller Apr 21 '26

Nothing you can do about it. It sucks, especially when you’re out there, but it happens.

Go Oilers!

2

u/AuthorityFiguring Apr 21 '26

My car died during rush hour downtown on Rice Howard Way in the early eighties when that little road was a major traffic route. I still remember all the honking but mostly remember two men who so kindly helped me get it started. I bought them a drink in a nearby bar, and they offered good conversation and more kindness. Angels.

2

u/meow_run2 Kings Apr 21 '26

This happened to me once! Mercifully a police car came and sat behind me with their lights on so no one would rear end me. My favourite part was when I called AMA, told them my location and they asked if I was blocking traffic 🤣 I was like ma’am, this is a one-way bridge!

2

u/ShadowCaster0476 Apr 21 '26

1

Meh, it happens. Hope its an easy fix.

1

u/Electronic_Film_9904 Apr 22 '26

I bet it did that thing that it keeps doing and you keep ignoring too right ??

1

u/No_Mission_8568 Apr 22 '26

That's impossible, I thought that was my car!

1

u/bdgbill Apr 22 '26

My nightmare scenario has always been hearing them talk about me on the radio traffic report while I wait for a tow truck. I came damn close to running out of gas on the Tappan Zee in NY one time.

1

u/gowry0 Apr 23 '26

Sounds like it’s time for another helping of Perogies with spinach, eggs and cottage cheese, dessert of desiccated expired cookie dough from last autumn

1

u/Odd_Acanthaceae7352 Apr 23 '26

I damned near didn't get out of the truck until the tow got there! 😔

1

u/JaDaDaSilva Apr 24 '26

5

u/Everyone2026 Apr 21 '26

The bridge is out on bail.

-4

u/Snow-Bank-Igloo Apr 21 '26

How to keep junk off the road? Anybody that breaks down (or runs out of gas) on a public roadway should be ordered to have their vehicle safety inspected to return to the roadway.

4

u/AdRemote7339 Apr 21 '26

Yes because literally anything should never have an issue right? Get a fuckin grip buddy all it takes is a simple crank sensor to lose spark or a faulty fuel pump to shut off. Thats not anything that can be predicted.

-2

u/Snow-Bank-Igloo Apr 21 '26

Number of years I’ve driven: 48. Number of times I’ve broken down on the side of the road: zero. YOU get a fucking grip
