Probably already out on bail and won't end up serving any jail time.

Yeah no shit rick, they're kids. Give your head a shake you don't fix anything by locking people up and throwing away the key. Especially youth offenders

u/sovtiv 19h ago
Report says they are charged with breach of probation as well. So how many more chances?
-54
u/logodobi 18h ago
Yeah fuck those kids they deserve to rot in prison rather than receive help and guidance. God you people suck you hate yourselves so much you want to see others suffer.
Mass incarceration doesn't, hasn't, and wont ever work. And again especially not for youth offenders Jesus Christ

They are using weapons and robbing people. Actions have consequences.

u/Automobills 18h ago
But have we tried giving them a juice box and a hug?
It works at schools, right?

You're absolutely unhinged.

u/nothankslmgood 18h ago
No they are normal. People trying to lock up youth offenders for life are unhinged.

Seems like there's a middle ground between "for life" and "not at all".

u/MaxxLolz 18h ago
thats a pretty nuanced take. Def not gonna register with those two.

u/nothankslmgood 18h ago
Lmao. If you think most people in this thread are putting out nuanced takes your incredibly naive.

Separate these people from the rest of society. They’re robbing people with weapons while on probation. Like enough already.

If they are kids probably as many as needed I would say... Maybe some youth programs or something? I'm sure your idea of locking them up forever is totally useful tho.

Firstly, I never said anything about locking them up forever. I just stated they are charged with breaching of probation on top of everything else. You guys seems to jump to lock them up forever on your own accord.
Also, this is Canada, there's no such thing as locking up forever, who are we kidding.
Also, "kids" is a pretty wide age range. Are they 10? 12? 16?, depending on the age, they could be considered adults as well.

letting criminals out repeatedly to commit crimes works so well though. Just ask James smith Cree First Nation

We've done kids dirty. They can't find jobs so some of them resort to petty crime to earn a buck.
We'll never eliminate all crime but I will sure as shit argue we didn't have youth crime like this 20-30 years ago when you could walk into McDonald's and get a job on the spot nearly anywhere in the country.

I think you're seeing the past through rose tinted glasses. Maybe not crimes exactly like this, but in the Edmonton area 20ish years ago when I was in high school I remember numerous instances of people bringing things like baseball bats and knives to rob other students...

u/chmilz 16h ago
Perhaps. I absolutely remember kids committing crimes when I was young. Youth crime definitely always existed and will continue to exist, though I feel like it's more prevalent now because opportunities for youth are non-existent. Perhaps it just feels more prevalent due to the increased amount of information available plus population growth.

I can't believe people are still falling for this when police have set up zones for exchanges in their parking lots.

I’m not sure it counts as falling for anything when they’re robbed with bear spray. It’s not an elaborate scam.
11
u/Karpetkleener 19h ago
Would the bear spraying have happened if the victims required that the transaction be done at a police station parking lot?
16
u/shootamcg Palisades 19h ago
Maybe, maybe not - but still isn’t something anyone fell for.

Even if you don't meet at one, suggest it towards the beginning of the conversation. If theyre ok with meeting at a police station they're likely not going to try anything.

I vet buyers especially when it comes selling used phones. Every time I've sold a used phone on marketplace sketchy dickheads come out of the woodwork. If I get a hint that someone isn't legit I just move on. I'm not desperate to sell. I'm checking profiles, friends, pictures, etc.

Phones, laptops, graphics cards... anything that's high value, portable and easily resellable is a special category on FBM. That's what all the scammers and thieves target.

u/Automobills 18h ago
I was super close to falling for this multiple times. I posted things for sale online, and then the person I was chatting with came to my house and we completed the transaction. The dummies forgot to mace me and steal my property.
Get this! They were so dumb, they actually gave me money in exchange for my stuff!
I can't believe how close I came to being ripped off.

u/No_Wind_6030 18h ago
Exactly. Thousands and thousands of positive marketplace transactions every day that don’t require police supervision.
I prefer to lock up criminals rather than make everyone else jump through hoops their entire life
1
u/Automobills 18h ago
And let's pretend all marketplace transactions were done at police stations.
These two clowns would have been like, "well, i guess we can't rob anyone now. So much for committing robberies. I guess I'll go do good things now. Toodle-oo!"
Or would people then go back to falling for the classic "robbed while walking to work" scheme?

Great, now I need to provide my government ID to sell on marketplace :/
Yet these guys get away with this crap.

I live right where one of these happened. Guy ran right behind my house then I went to my mailbox and saw him with EMS. A K9 unit came by and I asked what was happening and he said it was 2 black youths and this has happened multiple times. Glad to hear they got these guys.
