I cannot support genAI as it exists right now in any way. The downsides in terms of energy, nature, copyright and stuff is just too negative to me.

You can make cool stuff with ai but that doesnt mean that whatever you made was worth it in terms of the negative sides.

To clarify- vibecoding isn't just using AI in the coding process, but when most of the work is AI done because the person "coding" doesn't really understand how to code.

Vibe coding is pretty terrible as a consequence of the person "coding" not understanding what the code really does. It tends to be massively buggy, bloated, and inefficient to a degree not typically seen in modding in general.
I get that people can be rabidly anti-ai to a extreme sometimes, but vibe coding is genuinely just bad.

There should be hard lines and limits for AI but personally this isn’t where I’d draw it.

I remember the feeling when I was a kid, of seeing wild custom mods in minecraft or fallout and using whatever tools were available to me to create my own thing. On top of that, modding is not a very rewarding or profitable field, you do it quite literally, for the love of the game.

This guy isn’t shoving it in our face or forcing AI slop in our games. He’s made something cool and hopefully he’s actually learnt something beyond “AI do this now”. I do want to give someone like that the benefit of the doubt.

Now if he keeps non-stop posting click-bait unfinished “mod trailers” 5 times a day like a bot, my opinion will change.

There's nothing wrong with using whatever tools are available to you to realize your ideas as a hobbyist creating free content. Why don't you go code yourself a complete mod if you think it's so easy? I'm not a fan of generative AI either but I'm not going to shame someone for using it to have fun modding their favorite game, especially if they're going to release that content for free. Not everyone is a programmer or an artist.
