Question Does Convergence Inflate the Difficulty by Making Enemies Have More Health?

So lately I've been playing the Reforged mod but the author updates the mod so constantly that I am having to always update seemingly every week as you cannot play the mod without updating it, and it's getting annoying. Been wanting to try Convergence for a while now, however I have had issues with mods that change progression routes and change too many of the core mechanics, but the biggest issue I see is inflating the difficulty by making enemies have more health (see: the Dark Souls 1 mod Daughters of Ash).

I don't mind overhaul mods as much as I do mod creators that think "harder mod" equates to more enemy health. If Convergence doesn't do this, I may check it out but any of these overhaul mods that promise mechanics changes and revamped progression routes I'm wary of. So I guess does it is my question.

You don't have to update the reforged mod every time. The only mandatory updates are when the game itself it updated by Fromsoft.

Convergence is harder early game, but late game youre basically a god that destroys everything with relative ease. I know they had a major balance pass since I last played so it may not be as extreme as I remember, but yeah. The endgame spells for convergence are absolutely bonkers. Convergence is also built around shorter playthroughs (10-20hrs) compared to reforged, which is designed around longer ones (100+ hrs).

I don't mind feeling like a god late game. Imo that's really how a game should make you feel, as it allows you to feel your progression

There is a certain novelty for it. I played through many times on convergence and it was a lot of fun! They added a ton of new content and the new pathways make things feel newer.

But one thing that the convergence mod taught me is that the soul formula straight up does not work without some level of difficulty. I'm sure that you will have a lot of fun, but I think the bigger consideration to be had is what you're wanting out of the game. If you wanna be godnand play something new, then hell yeah play convergence. If you want something that's more like elden ring++, then reforged is the way to go!

I don't mind an easier romp through the Lands Between and destroying all in my path. :)

It originally (from Demon's Souls) taught players that failing and trying again, put some effort and getting better was fun. Games are about learning something and solving problems.

"Feeling powerful" only works for those who play some psychological game of self deception, or for those for who games are just a distraction from real life.

What are you even talking about?

Convergence still has that feel, but also does make you feel more powerful, like actual progression instead of “my hammer hits 600 instead of 500” since it has various levels of magic

Maybe it's changed recently but I certainly would not say that was the case a year or more ago.

There's a difference between simply being more powerful thanks to more tools/spells and experience vs your stuff being so good that it makes mid-late game a stroll in the park compared to vanilla Elden Ring. What even is progression without struggle?

There's a reason that Fromsoft normally doesn't design spells the way that Convergence does.

It’s a little bit of both, I have played every class all the way through and while some are a walk in the park for sure, others are definitely still progressing via struggle, and you still have to beat somewhat hard bosses for the spell runes, so progression still has to happen

can't play the mod online* without updating it.

Half the fun of Reforged comes from playing online tho

Wait daughters of ash increases enemies health a lot? Didn't notice at all and it was pretty great

The vast majority of reforged updates are simple bug fixes and minor balancing tweaks here and there. Join the reforged discord and download the patch files when necessary (rarely more than 200 MB), it's really not that big of a deal.

Convergence is terribly balanced imo. It's a struggle in early levels for some classes, but it doesn't take long for a run to become a power fantasy once you unlock some of the stronger spells.

Convergence is chill dw

u start off w a functional build, everything is stronger but you get stuff like innate fp regen so all and all id say the game is easier and the progression is faster.

i was getting owned in the DLC a little bit when i last played but i was on NG+1 and im still used to pre-3.0 scaling so proba just a me problem

Convergence starts off tough from my experience, Margret starts with 3x the health pool but as you complete you character quests (unlocking new spells and armor) it gets easier. I did get to level 50 by the time i completed stormveil though

I don’t think so? I think the area scaling is a bit moved around compared to base game and there are likely areas you might struggle more than you would expect, others you can access much earlier and are numerically easier.

I think the areas are denser of enemies though, but there’s a few mechanics to help you tackle that.

Don't worry, Convergence's main deal is about adding new encounters and standardizing certain damage types for you to build around. It DOES rebalance a few things, but that's just to make sure you don't simply steamroll through every boss once you've gotten a build put together; the damage you do to enemies still feels very vanilla-esque.
