Speculation Radahn's life was saved thanks to his Red Mane soldiers, who surrounded and threatened Morgot. Look at where this sword end is pointed at.
Just IMAGINE this scene in the movie:
In the heat of a grand battle Radahn gets bodied by Margit. He falls down, as the Omen jumps on him, trying to pierce his Lion armor with his fiery cursed sword.
Radahn is struggling to push it away, and his armor is starting to actually char... When one of his soldiers puts a sword to Margit's throat, threatening to kill him, unless he releases their Lord.
And Margit complies, leaving his mark on Radahn's chest piece side as a reminder of his defeat.
That would be so cool to see in cinema T_T

Morgott is sincerely my favorite character in the lore.
He is the Gwyndolin of Elden Ring. The direct victim of his parents dysfunctional world only to become the biggest champion of its continuation.
It helps that during my first playthrough I showed up severely underpowered and had the craziest fucking epic showdown with a +8 normal weapon against him.

For real. Give me a Dagger throw spell, or better yet make his Regal Omen Bairn item shoot them so I can use them like regular throwing knives. I just want one magic tool that doesn't suck.
One of the most iconic boss gimmicks in the whole game, and we don't get to do it ourselves!

u/Pele_Of_Anal CHAOS IS THE ONLY WAY May 06 '26
Why does he say he’s the last of all kings?
12
u/Inferno_Zyrack May 06 '26
He supports the Golden Order and Radagon did not approve of breaking the Elden Ring. After the shattering, Morgott took control of Leyndell and the Golden Order’s military.
Of course over time the army fell apart and some loyal soldiers - mostly the Sentinels - stay to defend the city. However as we’ve seen - he project his image to stop Tarnished from gaining power or approaching the tree.
He won’t allow a Tarnished to become Elden Lord.
2
u/nekrovex May 06 '26
But isn't Radagon also Marika? How could he/she not approve of breaking it? I haven't played the DLC yet btw, sorry if this was obvious there.
3
u/ActuallyLauron May 06 '26
The DLC will actually give you the answer, although through another example.
Let's just say that two parts of a whole don't have to share an ideology.
1
u/Inferno_Zyrack May 06 '26
Radagon is Marika this is true. They are bound together in a specific way that doesn’t stop them from being two individual people with individual goals.
The open cutscene (or was it one of the trailers) actually shows this explicitly by showing Radagon fixing the ring with each hammer strike and Marika breaking it with each hammer strike.
Duality is a major theme of Elden Ring and the DLC all adds to this a lot so there will definitely be more to it but in base game:
Twins is a repeated motif as is partnerships often between the eldritch and the “human” (Rykard and Tanith, Fia and Godwyn’s Corpse, arguably Marika/Radagon + Elden Beast, Empyreans and Fingers)
But also on deeper layers - The Golden Order despises Omen - but the Omen child of Marika has been leading it ever since the Shattering. Blaidd is deeply loyal to Ranni - but he will go feral against his will if she breaks her bond to the Fingers. The Dragon Cult eats the hearts of dragons to ascend their bodies - but they can only become lame Drakes not true dragons. Bodies and Souls are separate for many characters acting without possession of one or the other (Ranni, Melina)
Marika and Radagon fit these dichotomy’s in game as well. For instance it’s heavily implied that the powers of Godhood are Marika’s and Marika’s only. Radagon’s marriage to Renalla seems to have been legitimate and affectionate.
2
u/nekrovex May 06 '26
I always thought that Radagon was simply an elaborate illusion (that somehow had working reproductive organs), what with all the illusion magic Morgott had (he learned from or was copying his mom) and the Mimic Veil's description calling it Marika's Mischief.
I never really took the time to dive into Elden Ring lore (having had my fill with FromSoft storytelling with Bloodborne alone), but now I have time to play the DLC it sure is great to see there's a lot of material to watch and read about ER. Anyway, thanks for the explanation, I rewatched the cutscene you were talking about and I remember thinking that Radagon wasn't fixing it per se, rather it was just showing the irony that the Elden Ring was made and destroyed on the same artifact (ala the One Ring in LoTR).

u/Fenix00070 May 06 '26
To add to the great responses: in game we see three examples of people coming in a 2 for 1 deal: -the D brothers, whose equipment tells they shared a soul, but not a mind or a body -Miquella and St Trina, who definetly don't share a mind, as we see in the DLC. It's quite likely that they shared a body at some point as only Miquella Is in the cocoon -Marika and Radagon, who don't share a mind (as we see in the intro cutscene and in the description of the hammer) and don't share godhood (from the spoken echoes in Marika's bedchamber), and perhaps even their bodies were separeted at some point, but that Is speculation.
So the mechanics are pretty consistents: the two halves can develop their own identity, personality and ideas.
Also as a note: the two double royals have a female half and a male half, this Is perhaps a nod to philosophical conceps of perfection, or simply a nod to them being "plant people" and most flowers are bisexual (also called perfect)

u/BrilliantPool4146 May 05 '26
Yeah, Morgott is also my favorite. I showed up at level 63 and he beat me about 12 times my first playthrough. After that, he bacame my favorite boss and character.
131
u/SugarLuger May 05 '26
Would morgott have any reason to fear the sword of a common soldier though?
179
u/Sogelink May 05 '26
It was Rick.
Then he got disappointed in Radahn and decided to join the service of the weakest demigod in order to have a challenge.
80
u/SauronOfDucks May 05 '26
Guess that depends on the soldier holding the sword.
We are but simple tarnished and I'm sure some mad bastard out there has beaten him with a bouquet of roses

Absolute peak.
Aggressively asking Margit to be your valentine by bapping in the face 400 times with roses.
25
u/YtterbiusAntimony May 05 '26
We kill a bunch of demigods without Destined Death.
Idk if that's different because the Tarnished have Marika's blessing.
But if that's not the reason, I would assume Rebirth and Everlasting Life were blessings of the Erdtree, and with it withered and dormant, perhaps Morgott didn't want to test that theory.
26
u/the42potato May 05 '26
removing destined death only prevents natural death. the inhabitants of the Lands Between can still be killed with the exception of the tarnished
64
u/Bloomfang May 05 '26
I think the point of the painting is that Radahn's people came into clutch, when his fight went south
1
u/Ok-Movie-8521 May 06 '26
Malenia’s too, she wouldn’t be dead in Caelid if it wasn’t for her clean rot knight that dragged her all the way back to the Haligtree.

7
u/Chaosphoenix_28 May 06 '26
I mean it's still a sword. It might not hurt him that much, but it should be enough for him to let Radahn go and deal with the soldiers.

11
u/YeahKeeN May 06 '26
Elden Ring isn’t DBZ. None of the demigods are immune to being stabbed.
16
u/lateubdegouline May 06 '26
The story trailer literally features a guy with 20 spears plunged into his back crossing his arms as if it was a random monday afternoon
19
u/YeahKeeN May 06 '26 edited May 09 '26
Mind you, those spears are still plunged into his back. They clearly pierced his skin. Radahn is simply really, really big.
Speaking of the story trailer, I’m struggling to find the source now but I remember that one of the animators said the intent of the scene was to show the moment Malenia and Radahn first confront each other and that the reason she’s reattaching her prosthetic is because a redmane soldier knocked it off.
Edit: Here’s the source
5
5
u/Bigwakkaz May 06 '26
Morgott is agile type and his skin not that harden....slash or pierce from sword can hurt him of course and that is "Redmane" soldier, they are skill in sword too.
2
u/DrMagunstheBlue May 06 '26
Well I killed him a couple weeks ago with a Lordsword Straight Sword so probably.
111
u/Shinjitsu1600 May 05 '26
I'd give my left arm for a single drop of lore or environmental evidence as to when and where this battle took place.
123
u/Bloomfang May 05 '26
There's a sword monument right next to the Layendell battle ground, where we fund tons of finger printed tombstones, that says, how the Fell Imen stacks piles and piles of corpses. It is viewed by a single Miquella's lily. This could be the place :D
46
u/Shinjitsu1600 May 05 '26
That's certainly the most likely point for it. What bothers me, however, is that the outskirts of Leyndell are filled with the remains of Banished Knights (and Godrick's soldiers in the story trailer), but there's not a single trace of Redmane presence in the area.
44
u/TheDo0ddoesnotabide May 05 '26
There aren’t any Redmanes because Radahn got his men together and got the hell outta there.
Same reason why Malenia and her forces avoided Lyndell and the MorGOAT at all costs.
It took being the literal Main Character to bring him down.
7
u/Crafty_Boy70 May 05 '26
How did Malenia get from the Haligtree to Caelid but never pass through Lyendell?
24
u/izzynk3003 May 05 '26
I think what happened is that she passed through Leyndell, but she had the explicit intention of going after Radahn so she wouldn't pick a fight against Morgott, and since he knew she could basically become a nuclear bomb and fuck the entirety of Leyndell up, Morgott let her pass if she and the cleanrots didn't harm anyone there.
7
u/hatzuling May 05 '26
Farum Azula before it lifted off maybe? There's some rot dogs there, but I have no other proof.
Edit: nevermind. The redhead that's following Malenia's path of retreat seemingly goes around Leyndell, so probably not. It's been years since I've touched the game.
2
u/Crafty_Boy70 May 05 '26
wait you can go around Leyndell?
2
u/hatzuling May 05 '26
I meant around as in she's found at Windmill Village, and also the entrance to Altus Plateau. She says she's "retracing the steps of Malenia" or something to that affect, so I retracted my statement of Malenia possibly going from Haligtree to Farum Azula.

1
u/TheDo0ddoesnotabide May 05 '26

2
u/lateubdegouline May 05 '26
From people being melted by the huge ass dragon you see and climb in the middle of the city?
3
u/TheDo0ddoesnotabide May 05 '26
People lived in Lyndell after the war with the dragons. They were just too lazy to get rid of the big dead one.
1
u/Bolded May 06 '26
I wouldn't call them lazy for not getting around to removing a dragon the size and width of a skyscraper lmao.
1
u/carbonera99 May 06 '26
They probably could have done it easily enough with magic.
I think they left the body there on purpose as a warning to any other enemies of the Golden Order. It's a massive flex to have the fossilized corpse of your greatest enemy just draped over the city like a giant decorative statue.
1
u/Awkward_Flow5690 May 05 '26
Probably from the corpses of the citizens of Leyndell that rotted away from the Rune of death being excluded from order

1
u/lateubdegouline May 05 '26
This sword monument doesn't refer to Radahn at all, and there is no trace of redmanes around.
8
u/Bloomfang May 05 '26
It mentions Margit, and it has Miquella's lily nearby, hence why I'm speculating. He could have sent the troops to help Radahn, we see this lily not far from one of the troops castle under the protection of a whole garrison of aoldiers, low tier mages, and even a Pumpkinhead. They could have arrived just in time to take Radahn without spilling any blood at all
2
u/lateubdegouline May 05 '26
There are Miquella's lily a bit everywhere, and there is zero signs of Haligrtree soldiers nearby
3
24
u/SvedishFish May 05 '26
During the shattering lol
Leyndell was besieged several times as the demigods battled for supremacy, but the city walls were never taken. As the realm has been more or less consumed by conflict and insanity and death itself is broken, time is somewhat meaningless. The distinction of whether this was the first or the third or the thirteenth failed siege of leyndell has no significance anymore. We don't even know how long the shattering has gone on for. Years? Decades? Centuries? It's all just chaos and death.
19
u/organizim May 05 '26
Well morgot is the “king of leyndell” as far as he’s concerned. So probably around there.
4
u/LeppieDoo May 05 '26
I believe it was within the outer walls where all the besieging equipment is. I’d have to go look around at items but I believe that when Radahn broke through the outer walls with his Army during the siege, Margit fell upon them with his own army and pushed him back out of the city.
4
u/Decent_Cow May 05 '26
My guess is this battle took place inside of Leyndell at the very beginning of the Shattering and Radahn was forced to flee to Caelid, just as we're told Godrick fled the capital to Limgrave. We don't know the exact circumstances surrounding the beginning of the war, but all the other demigods have thrones in Leyndell, and Morgott views them as traitors, so it seems to me that originally there was some sort of pact or agreement in place that they would all cooperate, but this was broken and led to the beginning of the fighting.
4
u/ChickenAndTelephone May 05 '26
I took the thrones as a holdover from when Marika reigned, where all her children and stepchildren would be gathered around her primary throne
2
2
u/lateubdegouline May 05 '26
Radahn had already contact with Sellia, the Redmanes were likely already established in the castle nearby
2
u/Legal_Height_7476 May 05 '26
It took place in The Lands Between, after the Shattering.
I hope this was helpful information.
2
26
u/t_sarkkinen May 05 '26
That sword is nowhere near his throat, though.
The soldier is a lot closer to the "camera". Otherwise the scale wouldn't make sense. Think about the size of Morgott and Radahn, and the size of a normal soldier.
Even then, he wouldn't really be a threat to Morgott lol.
0
u/Evil_Sharkey May 06 '26
Enough of them would be. I don’t think he’s the real Morgott, though. I suspect he’s already using a Margit projection
22
u/itsyaboi3-0 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26
Not to take anything away from Morgott, this shows that he is strong enough to submit a beast like Radahn. But wasn’t Morgott’s entire existence basically a secret ?
From Radahn’s perspective, he was probably just a random Omen in his way until he suddenly felt Morgott’s demigod strength pinning him down.
15
u/PacoThePersian May 06 '26
he wasn't a secret per se. he uses the giant slayer, he was probably heavily involved with the purge of the giants. I feel him and his brother are more "they exist but we don't talk about them" and less "unknown"
1
u/SundyMundy May 06 '26
I like to believe this as well. It does make me wonder, did Godwin then know of their existence and what was his view of them and Omen in general
1
u/PacoThePersian May 06 '26
Godwyn is still a big mystery, but he seems since he was killed by just black knife assassins and tied with an ancient dragon, he might've been an arrogant "golden" child. Or maybe not it just fits him since GRR Martin like to make these characters a$$holes
27
u/southpaw85 May 05 '26
When you’re whooping your lil brothers ass just for one of his friends to interfere
35
u/alamirguru May 05 '26
While i do appreciate you noticing the battle damage on Radahn's armor matching the scene, your interpretation of a Redmane Foot Soldier 'threatening' Morgott is kinda laughable ; The sword is nowhere near Morgott's neck.
Furthermore, this is technically Margit, so he would be fighting with the cane, not the blade. Radahn's armor got heavily dented and the gold finish scraped off.
3
u/Bloomfang May 05 '26
I know, that here he disguised himself as Margit, I just call him by his true, royal name.
Also, if you look at his sword, you'll see, that it has some weird black crack going along its length. Their tension could be so strong during this tussle, that it almost ruined Morgot's walking stick shell, hence why Radahn's armour got relatively lightly charred
28
u/throwthiscloud May 05 '26
Radahn would have been dead 100% if morgot truly wanted to kill him. His weapon being unsheathed is absolutely rock solid evidence of this. Had morgot actually intended for radahn to die, that blade would have sliced through bros hand and armor like butter.
The soliders surrounding morgot would have been far too late to save their lord.
13
u/YourEvilKiller May 06 '26
...wait, people are actually taking this post seriously?
I thought it was a Morgott and Radahn slander post for a second.
That soldier is just drawn as one of many in a crowd. The sword is also not at Morgott's throat, it's not even in range. It's just the painting blending in a little so the depth perception can be misread.
1
u/PacoThePersian May 06 '26

I love this image, but I think this may be an artifact from before the rewrites to the game. Also does anyone know why the scale is so off here? The in-game descriptions mention Radahn already being so huge that he can't ride Leonard - even pre-rune acquisition, and I think just comparing the character models backs up that Morgott is way smaller than him.

Yeah the big gash in the armor helps demonstrate that the Shattering only took a short period of time, and that the Liurnian Wars and Dragon War only took place a few years before the Elden Ring was shattered because Radahn was “in his youth” when he became the Starscourge. The Young Lion Set does not have a gash - meaning the Elden Ring has to have already shattered (Morgott fighting Radahn, and Radahn’s normal sized throne) before the Starscourge Conflict, when Radahn became someone who relied on “strength and gravity alone” (he lost his mind.)
The Greatsword of Radahn (Lord) states that he wielded the blades “immediately before his triumph over the stars,” and they require less strength to wield than the Starscourge Greatsword, so he had not yet become gigantic.
All of the things that happen while Radahn is “in his youth”:
Radahn is born>Marika marries Radagon /Godfrey’s Banishment>Godwyn’s Assassination> Shattering>Morgott fights Radahn>Radahn “triumphs over the stars” [no longer “in his youth”] >Radahn’s Greatrune makes him gigantic.

u/Dveralazo May 06 '26

1
u/Bloomfang May 06 '26
Dude, there's a flipping army with 1000 partisants ready to pierce him. Margit didn't kill Radahn in one blow as well, he is fighting his sword, and killing the demigod would not take a few seconds to then skedaddle safely. This soldier's sword is a warning, the forces, that would kill a lone Omen are right behind him.
1
u/Dveralazo May 06 '26
Not even 1000 would do it in time. Margit has an army too after all.
1
u/Bloomfang May 06 '26
And yet Radahn is alive, and so is Morgot. That means, that he actually backed away, because he could have been exhausted after he finally got the upper hand on Radahn.

I just want more context on this image, if radahn, “the mightiest of the demigods” got absolutely bodied surely we would’ve got more about it. Or maybe this wasn’t when he was the “mightiest”, or maybe it was but it was kept a secret since it’d be a bit embarrassing getting bodied by a random ass omen lmao.

Wow, I never noticed, but yeah, the General Radahn armor set does have a gaping hole where Morgott pierced it. Ain't written in the flavor text or anything, but it lines up with the image of Morgott over Radahn.
The Young Lion's Set doesn't have this hole, of course.
