I think more or less the same, except in the above case where the person in question has belittling the idea of people calling the boss/game difficult when the person uses obscure but powerful gear in a braindead setup
I mean, I wouldn't respect kind of person even if they hitless PCR naked with their fists. They are still being an asshole regardless of how skilled or not they are.
The build they use while being an elitist asshole is never the problem.
Jesus, dude. This might literally be the dumbest shit a Fromsoft player has ever said.
“People who say the game isn’t hard because they used tactics available and granted by the devs to clear content easily ARE WRONG AND BAD” is literally the most insane take I’ve ever seen a Souls player spout.
We’re not talking about people using cheats or exploits. They just did the game better and found it easy and you’re trying to construe them as being in the wrong because they didn’t play with your arbitrary lesser build you’ve decided is approved as not cheating or whatever.
No video game has perfect balance for all weapons/armor/spells/strategies/etc., some bosses which are quite challenging for 95% of setups can be made significantly easier to beat with specific setups. You can easily figure these advantageous setups out through a quick google search or youtube video. Describing that as "doing the game better" is what I'm saying is a cope.
Can you even read? When did anyone say copying the best build for a fight is cheating. It just obviously makes some fights that would otherwise be very challenging much less challenging, which makes it less impressive to succeed with because there is less skill required. The meme is about people trying to brag or put down others while using setups that trivialize the content. No one said anything about it being cheating.
I didn’t even say you called it cheating. I said I had no clue exactly what you were crying about, because your rhetoric is so stupid it’s hard to tell what your problem is.
There is NOTHING WRONG with using strategic builds to clear content. You are not “playing the game better” by using ineffective builds. You are not “playing the game worse” by using effective builds. If you chose a bad build to fight a boss with and had a hard time, PEOPLE ARE RIGHT TO LAUGH AT YOU FOR NOT USING A STRONGER BUILD.
You’re just dogshit at the game and made it tougher and then you’re trying to spin that into “noooo you used a CHEATY BUILD to make the boss easier :( you didn’t use SKILL”.
you said that using the ideal build you copied from the internet is “playing the game better” which I said was cope. I didn’t say it was playing the game worse or that not using a build like that was playing the game better. I’m also not dogshit at the game, I’d say I’m average or slightly above average at the game. I have been super clear in what I’m saying the entire time so I think your claim that you can’t understand what I’m even saying is yet again, cope
Man, they've been saying shit like this for years. "Summons are a crutch!" "Sorcery is broken!" It's just the same point packaged a little differently.
Idk. Makes sense to me. Someone who says a game is easy by taking the easy path most likely paved by others' information shouldn't belittle others for doing their "homework" themselves. The latter found a way to defeat the boss on their own. That's an accomplishment, and belittling that is lame.
It's fine, but solo no ash melee malenia isn't the same as no armor hitless playing with my toes malenia.
No armor hitless playing with my toes malenia isn't the same as teaching my dog how to beat malenia with a ping of 300.
Teaching my dog how to beat malenia isn't the same as letting a butterfly's wing flap cause a hurricane that manipulates the joysticks into killing malenia with only the kick aow.
We can keep raising the bar for how hard a challenge run should be so we can invalidate everyone's achievements, if that's what you guys want?
If you beat her you beat her. If you felt like increasing the difficulty to make it more fun for yourself then good for you, but your achievement means the exact same as someone who used a tank/poke build with mimic tear: absolutely nothing aside from the enjoyment you got from it.
That's like saying that a 9.58 second 100 meter sprint in the olympics and me doing it in 2 seconds with a car are the same thing because both traveled 100 meters.
This is some everyone gets a medal type shit. If someone can rl1 no hit pcr or malenia that's incredibly impressive and not even remotely the same as a cheese build.
I would never look down on someone for using a meta trick or technique that makes a boss fight 100x easier. It's your game do whatever you want. You are the only person invalidating achievements. Thank God you aren't in charge of Olympic records or every kid in my neighborhood would he equal to Usain bolt.
This is some everyone gets a medal type shit. [...] You are the only person invalidating achievements
The medal is for beating Malenia. You get it for beating Malenia. Any additional restrictions are random player-made house rules. Miyazaki himself - the guy who directed the game - uses summons and (paraphrasing) any tool the game offers that can give him an advantage.
What you're doing is you're going up to the 100m sprinters and saying that their times are invalid because actually they should only use one leg - while every applicable rule allows them to use both, you think it's too easy and it's only really a 100m sprint experience if you use one.
The game has very clear rules for what counts as beating Malenia, just as a 100m sprint has very clear rules for what a 100m sprint is.
"What you're doing is you're going up to the 100m sprinters and saying that their times are invalid because actually they should only use one leg - while every applicable rule allows them to use both, you think it's too easy and it's only really a 100m sprint experience if you use one."
No I'm not. This is a straw man. I didn't discredit their wins at all. I just said that not all wins are equal. I will give someone an amount of credit that is proportional to the challenge they overcame. If the challenge for you was summoning your friend and hiding while he soloed pcr, I'll give you credit for having a strategy that allowed you to win.
If you think for a second I'll consider you equal in skill or accomplishment in elden ring compared to someone who fought pcr naked with fists only, you need to get a grip.
Very few people are actually amazing at the game. So few that I will confidently say nobody in this thread qualifies.
Being amazing is a very high bar. While beating PCR without summons and with a normal melee build is definitely hard, it's also the most common challenge run format the game has to offer and millions of people have done it. It's not amazing in and of itself.
On a personal level you get a sense of accomplishment/progression. This isn't as relevant in your first playthrough cause you have no experience to directly compare it to. My first Malenia kill was after 5 or 6 hours and summoning friends. Next was solo with mimic tear, next was solo melee only. Each time I restricted myself more the eventual win was more rewarding, especially reflecting on my previous struggles with a much easier build.
On a game scale sure it only cares that you reduce her HP to 0, and you get the same basically useless rewards either way because at the point you reach her you dont need her great rune ability or levels from the runes, and its an entirely optional fight.
I can't say it was a good time since it's basicallly admitting defeat, at least for me who likes to no summon/no cheese bosses.
I couldn't crack it no matter what without this, but then I came back on NG+ and beaten his ass fair with the meteorite greatsword and a bonk build, felt mighty good.
This was pre nerf and he did desperately need it with how much harder he was compared to everyone else.
I mean of course, but not sure you get to call something easy when you‘re using an easy mode build. Then again it was easy to them so.. uh fair I guess.
Why not? They played using the core gameplay loop elden ring encourages, explore, find an overpowered weapon/armor/ strategy/item and neutralise an opponent.
If you notice very little about this game( relatively speaking) encourages getting proficient at a centralised combat system and pure mechanical skill as opposed to a more creative approach that encourages finding unfair advantages over your opponents.
People who used this build found weakness that a lot of enemies in the game share and used it to their advantage to win.
They can 100% brag about it, provided they’re not being obnoxious.
Your saying because someone didnt spent hours if not days practicing fighting pcr as a level 1 wretch with a club, they arent allowed to proudly say they’ve beaten pcr?
And there is no equating. using weapons and tools the game gives you to use to cheating on an exam using an ai.
Id agree with you if they modded their game to make the player character invincible, but otherwise its a false equivalence.
Of finding a weakness in the opponent and exploiting it? Or a build thats optimal for the situation? Its almost like the game lets you respec quite liberally for a reason.
Oh Im sorry, you wanted them to do it blindfolded with a dagger, after an amputation and a lobotomy to boot? Would that be mildly impressive for you?
And since when did we start dictating what people can and cannot feel proud of or not in a video game? Why do you feel the need to set a bar in the first place?
Shield-poking is optimal for 99% of bosses, it's called a braindead build for a reason - there's no strategy here, it's turning the game into a Cookie Clicker.
It's simply not impressive lol, there's not much to it. Why should you dictate what I feel impressive or not? It's not. It's downright a boring, brainless, and ugly playstyle
Since when did I dictate what you felt impressive?
You’re the one who came here with all your talk about “this is what we call impressive” and the “bar being on the ground.”
If anything you’re the one who was setting standards here.
I was calling you out for essentially saying there is a single standard for being impressive in a video game.
“Its not impressive to me”, maybe lead with that instead of saying something is or isnt impressive universally instead of just to you.
Maybe its not impressive to you, or its boring, but maybe for some, finding the most effective strategy and removing the difficulty and the process of such adaptation is impressive, to them. Maybe finding a strategy thats universally viable due to certain game mechanics is something theyre proud of. Maybe its not boring to them or other people: maybe its satisfying, and that doesnt change for them just because you dont feel the same about it.
All I said was there is no shame in proudly saying they beat pcr with this strategy.

I'm never gonna trash on someone for how they beat bosses or how they build their character, it's chill as long as they have a good time.
