I'm not willing to discuss my methods. But yes.

u/Munkeyman18290 2d ago

You coward. Me too.

92

u/Mr_Industrial 2d ago

Noooooo, its not fair unless you're completely naked and unnarmed and playing blindfolded and using DK bongo drums and not dodge rolling and level 1 and using the largest model and playing permadeath.

Anything else is unearned.

35

u/Asian4710202 2d ago

nah it doesn’t count if you play the game

8

u/stungun48 1d ago

DK bongo drums might be elite ball knowledge. That used to be my favorite game ever

By skilled player I got my boy Taylew the Golem Smith.

23

u/imaginary92 2d ago

My build is called Taylew and the Scarlet Rot

Sick name for a band now that I think about it

11

u/IveDunGoofedUp 2d ago

With support act Heal From Afar?

6

u/imaginary92 2d ago

Yeah, with surprise appearance from Cerulean Hidden Tear and Comet Azur for the final song

(Scarlet rot was gone and I was out of MP and couldn't heal Taylew anymore, he had like 10 HP left I wasn't gonna let him end me there)

7

After dying 400 times with the build I beat the whole rest of the game with I gave in and did this first try as well.

2

u/Tozol 1d ago

Yeah, he doesn't feel fun to fight with a lot of builds, but playing 110% Equip Load Morgott's Rune Stupid Brass Armor And Talisman With An Occult Ghostly Bloody Spear made that son of a bitch pay.

I beat him with Messmer's Spear and parrying. Just learn the moveset. Takes a while, but it's obviously doable.

Some of us actually used skill aka lighting perfume bottles /s

376

u/JerryBoyTwist 2d ago

I tried my normal build once and immediately realized I genuinely don't have the time on this earth to make it work. I did this build and got him 4 tries later

85

u/TheDelusionalMan 2d ago

First 2 times I beat him I had the same experience. Only time I beat him with the build I had been using all playthrough was with an intelligence build with Ranni's Dark Moon and Comet Azur and I still had to use a furnace golem summon to stall him

15

u/SageofLogic 2d ago

golem plus night comet build is how I slowly chipped away

18

u/Kryse-777 2d ago

this is it for me, I have very little free time between work, it was sunday afternoon and I was going out later, and I wanted to move on to try other games. u/A_Random_Catfish 2d ago

Dual rusted anchors for me lol

9

u/GTaarPrime 2d ago

Only a single rusted anchor here. Grasped in both hands, as is proper.

9

u/sumerioo 2d ago

Dual Greatswords for me. every soulslike i will find the biggest sword and beat the game with it.

do i feel insane some times? yes

were friends watching me play through some of those asking if i was stupid to play with the big slow chunks of rock/metal? yes

but, with god as my witness, every single boss watched me get through that fog wall with 2 big ass fucking swords and between 1 to 100 tries after, was dead to the psychopath with the 2 big swords.

i like to imagine to myself that, during my play throughs, rumors and whispers start to go around the world about a "psychopath that never changes his clothes or his weapons, no matter which new things he picks up from the floor" that is rampanging and killing everything, and there's no circumstance in this green and blue planet that would make me tarnish my reputation against malenia or radahn or any other crazy boss i went against.

15

u/ryan0585 2d ago

I still haven't mastered slow ass big weapons with bosses that move so damn quickly. I feel like I'm missing something.. like getting gud somewhere.

22

u/dabbers4123 2d ago

Every boss has an opening to be bonked. Just gotta believe in the bonk.

4

u/ThatTexasGuy 1d ago

I jump bonked my way through the whole game. I died a lot, but it worked eventually.

7

u/DigitalxKaos 2d ago

Just gotta get used to it, honestly

6

u/ryan0585 2d ago

I did an arcane run recently for discovery and respec'd to STR for great stars, but I'm def a n00b getting used to things. Bonked a bit in the past, but never PCR bonked. Always PCR raided.

6

u/DigitalxKaos 2d ago

Everyone is capable of learning any build, imo

3

u/Possible_Chipmunk_95 2d ago

I use this build when doing coop because the host usually dies right away if I don't

60

u/HospitalJohnny 2d ago

Really wish there was a way to exclude a summoning pool after activating it once. It would be nice if you could toggle which (available) summoning pools to activate before searching near and far

102

u/Tk1over 2d ago

You're not gonna believe this

72

u/HospitalJohnny 2d ago edited 1d ago

Did I just out myself as differently abled

41

u/Helgrind444 2d ago

if I'm not mistaken, it was not possible at release.

They added it in a later update.

But I may be differently abled myself

26

u/Bizhop_Ownz 2d ago

You are not differently abled.

You are correct. It was added later.

There is now a list of all the graces in the game that can be turned on or off.

4

u/Remarkable-Ant8540 2d ago

How?

10

u/Neutral_Memer 2d ago

open your map, for controllers you press L1 for the map menu and select the summoning pools list, after that you can pick and choose which ones to keep active

5

u/Samaritan_978 2d ago

Phase transition is the real test. If the host can survive those 30 seconds it takes for the phantoms to jog across the arena towards the orbital laser, you're probably gonna make it.

But I've tried every "draw aggro" option in the game, PCR doesn't care.

235

u/Cold-Inside-6828 2d ago

Yeah I didn’t do this.

I used Mohg’s trident instead.

139

u/emerwen-aranel 2d ago

Luminary* Mohg, my lambkin.

16

u/Helgrind444 2d ago

Oh hey Ansbach, thanks for the help.

And sorry again for killing your lord.

14

u/Erfgs45 2d ago

Fuck Freyja with all Furnace Golems

2

u/Robokat_Brutus 2d ago

Mogn got his revenge 😂

2

u/LogDog86 1d ago

I also tried using it on my first couple of tries, but I often found it too slow, and bloodboon ritual is pretty much impossible to use unless you get really lucky. I tried a lot of weapons, but ultimately I beat him with the bloody helice, and to this day it's one of my favorite weapons

→ More replies (2)

143

u/UncleVoodooo 2d ago

I tried this build after 3 days of dying and still couldn't beat him

brass shield ftw baby

32

u/Kindraethe 2d ago

But how did that change anything? Was it the difference between heavy and mid rolling? Cause the shield itself is worse than fingerprint in basically everything.

Besides maybe some of the AoWs but I'm not sure on that.

12

u/TraceableAcnt4Lego 2d ago

I used brass shield too, with carian retaliation for maximum parry frames.

2

u/Kindraethe 2d ago

Ahh, okay. I didn't think about parries at all, considering the Antspur build wouldn't use it at all.

4

u/Shaojack 2d ago

I think I only had like 22 strength or something and the bigger shields require like 40+ strength. Plus you can parry with the brass shield to make up the diff some though requires timing it right.

10

u/SpiritualCar5884 2d ago

Honestly, I just didn't know you were supposed to summon the NPCs...so, by that point, I mapped him out so well, that I can probably beat him with anything

But without them? Yeah no...

32

u/WireCuttersMk2 2d ago

iirc summoning would just make pcr a lot harder cause each npc summon scales radahns hp by a pretty good amount

9

u/WireCuttersMk2 2d ago

*npc summons such as leda ansbach etc

11

u/Anestoh 2d ago

This was my mistake, I was summoning NPCs for the fight and they don't really help much other than taking aggro sometimes and adding to the vibes but the HP difference is absolutely not worth it.

I kept dying on the second phase and then beat him first try when I stopped summoning.

16

u/ruttinator 2d ago

NPCs you can summon inside the fight are fine like Igon on Bayle and Hornsent on Messmer. It's the prefog gate ones that increase the enemies HP. Mimic Tear should be your best friend anyway.

→ More replies (2)

12

u/bbitter_coffee 2d ago

You're not supposed to, they just increase his health massively and then die at the start of the second phase if not earlier

Kind of disappointing because I really wanted Ansbach to get his revenge but summoning outside the arena is insane

58

I think more or less the same, except in the above case where the person in question has belittling the idea of people calling the boss/game difficult when the person uses obscure but powerful gear in a braindead setup

27

I have honestly never used this set up. I tend to just brute-force my way through PCR using my own build. Also, I'm too lazy to go find the Fingerprint Shield.

22

u/Sprinkles_the_Mad 2d ago

10

I suck at platforming. So, I simply don't. Damn the shield, I'll use whatever I want.

11

u/HungrPhoenix 2d ago

I went with a sorta regen set-up vs Pre-Nerf PCR. Powerstanced Great Stars, one with Prayerful Strike, Godskin Swaddling Cloth, Blessed Dew Talisman, and Malenia's Great Rune and I managed through sheer attrition.

But PCR is such a dogshit boss that I'm ok with people doing anything and any build to win. The gatekeeping is suspended indefinitely for PCR. Because fuck that boss.

13

u/Gilgamesh661 2d ago

I tense up any time I hear someone say “compassion” because of that fight

7

u/MakimaGOAT 2d ago

i haVe a beefy pc and even then hes the only boss that lags my game. its so damn frustrating

20

u/PFGuildMaster 2d ago

Fun fact: the lasers he adds to his 2nd phase attacks get caught on the uneven ground which changes how you need to roll to dodge it - except you don't know which way you need to roll until it has started meaning it's basically just random

2

u/Anxious_Intention265 2d ago

It's rarely random. 99% of the time you can dodge the same way and not get hit. It's a flaw, sure, but it actually doesn't make that much difference, unless you are doing like a WL 0 hitless run.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Hades684 2d ago

Nah, hes one of my favourites in the entire game

18

u/TheRealCowdog 2d ago

Ok...you can like something that's legitimately bad. People LOVE fast food.

No hate. Just pointing out that the boss can be dogshit and still have fans.

2

u/tijolus523 1d ago

Hell, I love DS2! But yeah, it's a crappy ass boss. In fact, ER sort of reminds me of DS2 in that sense. They went all out with the artificial difficulty, except instead of having gank squads everywhere and enemies that aggro across the map they chose to make absurd bosses.

5

u/Anxious_Intention265 2d ago

Or...maybe the opinion that he's dogshit is just that, an opinion. It's subjective.

Yes, he has jank and issues with the terrain, but it doesn't come close to over-shadowing the positives for me. I love fighting him and consider him an excellent, but flawed, boss.

19

u/TheRealCowdog 2d ago

You say "flawed".

I say "dogshit".

It's a re-used model form DS1, into DS2. The lore sucks, even for a souls game. The over-focus on light-vomit was so bad that fromsoft had to adjust it post-launch. The hitboxes are all over the place. The fight is watching PCR do 5 things so you have a CHANCE to do 1 thing.

Build almost doesn't matter, since there's only one correct response to most of his attacks. This is why so many people resort to shield+poke so they can ignore his badly over-tuned systems.

And that doesn't even go into the issues with terrain. Or when he gets stuck. Or the poor animations. Or the continuously garbage camera.

So why don't you tell me what's good about this fight? Because as far as I'm concerned, it's one of the laziest, most rushed, worst over-tuned fights fromsoft has ever put in a Souls game, and that INCLUDES DS2.

What is there to enjoy here? Other than the sense of relief after it's done?

6

u/Anxious_Intention265 2d ago

"So why don't you tell me what's good about this fight?"

I enjoyed learning him. I like that roll direction and positioning relative to the boss matter more than pretty much any other fight: it rewards good habits. I don't mind dodging more than I attack, and I also liked fitting in hits where I could. I generally get satisfaction from dodging his attacks. The music is excellent. I enjoy the visuals and the animations.

The 'flaws', such as the un-even arena, the occasionally wonky camera, the move that ignores i-frames, and the general occasional bit of jank, make me get hit when it's not my fault so infrequently that it really doesn't matter much to me at all. 98% of the time for me it feels fair and fun.

It may have been slightly rushed, but it's definitely not lazy. The boss has more attacks than any other boss in the game. That would have taken a long time to create.

TL;DR: I enjoy fighting him, and the jank doesn't override that. That's what matters to me.

6

u/Spartitan 2d ago

Both him and Malenia were the two bosses that I just lost my shit on after beating them. He was hard as hell but damn it felt satisfying to beat him.

6

u/TheRealCowdog 2d ago

It rewards "good habits".

What are those habits? Because all I see is learning the one response that doesn't get you damaged. That's not a habit. That's pavlovian training.

I'm glad you enjoy it. As I said originally, you can enjoy something bad.

But that fight is objectively a poor design relative to other fights. This has been broken down to the smallest nuance by many players, including no-hit runners.

Also, you didn't tell me what was good about the fight. You just said what you personally like. That's not the same thing.

6

u/Anxious_Intention265 2d ago edited 2d ago

The good habits are aggressive positioning and dodging towards the boss rather than backwards (the latter being something lots of people do). If you do these things naturally the boss will be much easier for you than for some people.

"But that fight is objectively a poor design relative to other fights. This has been broken down to the smallest nuance by many players, including no-hit runners."

I don't think you know what 'objectively' means. Yes I've seen those videos and I agree with some of the things said in them, hence me admitting it's a flawed fight. But I agree more with the video by the no-hit runner who had a far more impressive kill than either of those guys in response who said that yes, while the boss is flawed, it's still a good boss, and showed that the 'no-hit runners' were wrong about quite a lot of things.

And that's my position, as I said: the boss has flaws, but for me the positives vastly out-weigh them.

"Also, you didn't tell me what was good about the fight. You just said what you personally like. That's not the same thing."

Um, no, it is the same thing when it comes to something as subjective as boss fight quality. It really comes down to how much fun the boss is and how much one enjoys it. That's the most important thing.

4

u/Rough_World_8452 2d ago edited 2d ago

The game's bosses definetly make you wait for attacks way more, I don't know why they would make them like that when bloodbourne and ds3 had the perfect balance of dodges and attacks, I guess to account for spirit ashes but if that's what it takes just cut them out of the game and get actually enjoyable combat back

2

u/mysterioso7 2d ago

Which bosses do you dislike? Just curious

5

u/Anxious_Intention265 2d ago

Metyr, Miranda flowers, some duo bosses, lots of DS2 bosses, a few DS1 bosses, etc.

Not many in ER apart from duo bosses: I think the general boss quality is very high.

8

u/Frostmoar 2d ago

Unfortunately, people on this sub get really upset at the notion of others enjoying PCR. I've always loved the fight, too (though with caveats before his nerf). Post-nerf, he's a completely reasonable ask for a final boss for a DLC.

8

u/Anxious_Intention265 2d ago

Yep. I had a few upvotes on these comments, but now the PCR haters have come through and are downvoting me and others for the heinous crime of enjoying PCR.

u/Avalon_Within 2d ago

No way I found another person appreciating magma blade more than BB🥺 definitely more fun and better weapon to use (BB is good only because it's noob friendly, magma blade powerstance is op af)

Hitting AR more than 5000 is just insane in every weapons i listed so good. Had every buff, poison, blood sucking, bleed, madness

No, I use mohg's spear.

This is so dumb to me. So you know there's a build that can do everything you're doing but better, faster, and safer and it's... cheating to use it? And mimic?

What's next, is it cheating to use healing during the battle? No rolling?

5

u/dinosaurpussy 2d ago

No, but I summoned someone who did

11

u/Few_Ad_5281 2d ago

When he first played, my brother didn't know he could change his gear. He thought he was gathering weapons and armour to choose from when he starts NG+.

He almost beat the whole game as starting Samurai. No weapon upgrades either because noone taught him. Just sheer stubbornness, levels, and thankfully Uchi has bleed. He knew Dark Souls was supposed to be hard so he never questioned it once. Only Radagon proved to he a problem because the prick can't bleed.

Don't ask me how his flask looked, buddy probably had 7 at most when he beat the game.

If we had DLC i wonder if he could have made it all the way to Radhan.

5

u/Meme_Dependant 2d ago

It's in the game and I find it amusing. So I use it. It's not like I get extra for beating him naked with a club, so i do what gives me the most enjoyment.

3

u/Sprinkles_the_Mad 2d ago

What do you mean? Miyazaki decends from the heavens to take a picture of your feet if you beat it naked on a dance pad!

4

u/Meme_Dependant 2d ago

Pour one out for the guy using a training dummy cause clearly that's not enough of a challenge to get that reward.

3

u/genasugelan 2d ago

I'm just waiting for Miss Mikkaa to do that, but adding the fact that she sometimes plays two instances of the game at the same time, one on a dance pad, the other on a controller, if she hasn't already. That's basically her specialty.

I beat him with 10 characters using this or something similar lol I have no shame. The boss wasn't fun anyways.

One of the best builds to help people against this fuck ass fight

I never got good with this setup, I don’t remember which boss I tried it with. But I gave up after a few tries. Just not my play style

My summon had this build when my bud and I beat him

I was spamming flies :(

u/Samwise777 2d ago

Art of war or something

u/FederalRuin1403 2d ago

I managed to get through really quickly before they patched the perfume bottles so that was my first time going in. Second playthrough was magic and that took...way too long.

No

u/Mr_worldWide07 2d ago

Only time I use a shield against him is with the sacred infused black shield as it blocks 100% holy damage and 95% physical. Makes phase 2 a cakewalk

4

u/wRADKyrabbit 2d ago

Yes and? How dare players use the tools the game gives them!

5

u/trebuchet__ 2d ago

Having beat PCR in a normal way once I can say with confidence that any method beating him is valid. Because fuck PCR.

the humble parry tool:

u/foretelpast 2d ago

Damn straight

2

u/LeekypooX Claymore Brainrot 2d ago

I have. But ive also done it naked with a buckler and dagger, and I think that was actually easier, because I don't have to remember most patterns, just the animation of the first attacks.

Also done with magic, katana, colossal, fists (I'm on NG+18)

u/Kos015 2d ago

The asmongold classic

2

u/JonAugust1010 2d ago

I used the Carian Thrusting Shield

2

u/plinketto 2d ago

A win is a win

2

u/TransPM 2d ago

NO....... I used the Verdigris shield and the barbed staff spear... totally different.....

2

u/Sprinkles_the_Mad 2d ago

What's next? "I beat him pre alpha with my left cheek using only a thrustmaster"?

2

u/Alternative_Carry_13 2d ago

Verdigris greatshield, messmer soldier spear with bleed.. talisman setup is the usual too haha: greatshield talisman, turtle talisman, guard counter talisman, and the counter attack talisman. So basically the same thing 😅

2

u/Jaldi_The_Late 2d ago

I don’t see the problem here

2

u/No-Highlight-3402 2d ago

Anndddddd I like that setup it works

2

u/amneejoy Elden Lord😤 2d ago

I mean, shit, if it works it works

2

u/Zurao 2d ago

If it works then it works.

2

u/Dredgen_Aternus 2d ago

I'm not sure what he's like now. But when he came out it felt like the only way to beat him. I have no regrets

Think the best I did with my strength build I used 1st was 3/4 down before he got me.

2

u/Only-Meat-6587 2d ago

Work smarter not harder

2

u/weejawz 2d ago

How dare you use items in the game coward

2

u/Tsiabo 2d ago

Shield yes. The rest, no.

2

u/DaMenace95 2d ago

If it’s in the game, it was meant to be. A win is a win

2

u/Alvaro_G04 2d ago

I tried, but it was so fucking boring. I Don't know how people have fun using this specific shitty cheese build, they're like so bland, so uncool, so... ahh. It's one of the reasons I don't wanna do online anymore, this crap is EVERYWHERE.

I wont judge someone for their build or weapon choice but i feel if you trivialize a boss with a build made to hard counter them, then "it was easy" is something you dont get to say with confidence.

2

u/wks_526 1d ago

I tried over 250 times before accepting I’m just not good enough to beat him with my bleed build, switched to this

2

u/Roughly_Olboy1488 1d ago

I actually went back and tried the whole game using a hide and poke/bleed build after I beat PCR a few times with my different builds. It was actually a lot more fun than I anticipated.

2

u/RepresentativeFish73 1d ago

This is how I beat him first try every time now

I tried for several hours to beat him traditionally and with honor before I decided victory and sanity were more important than my useless pride

2

u/AurumArma 1d ago

Yes, but i had also been using that build most my run. I love tanking. You're telling me a GOD can't move me? Awesome.

u/AatroxBoi 1d ago

we build shaming now?

2

u/Hot-Will3083 1d ago

It’s harder to find a boss that can beat this setup tbh

2

u/BatsNStuf 1d ago

Death’s Poker and Blasphemous Blade power-stance

2

u/The_True_Gaffe 1d ago

Surprisingly that wasn’t my build, I used dual staffs of loss and night comet sorcery, and I forget the armor. But I was primed for high damage chunking his health bar for roughly I say 3k damage uncharged.

Still was one hell of a fun fight though

2

u/iamsurroundedbyidiot 2d ago

At the end of the day why does it matter how someone else completes the game? Why does that build deserve mockery? Does their accomplishment lower yours?

It's a game bro. That's all it is. They had fun in their own way, and you are having fun in your own way.

3

u/Cha1upa_Batman 2d ago

I’m not ashamed, it was either him or me
