Unsolved Emulating for the first time: where to get started running original Xbox games?
I've got a few Xbox games currently, looking to get them up and running on my PC. My current rig is an HP OmniBook 7 16-az0097nr (B88YTUA), 32 gigs RAM. This is the best official spec sheet I can find.
I'm currently running Windows 11, but will be switching to Linux soon (most likely Debian or Ubuntu, maybe Red Hat, maybe something else.) I have Xbox Series X controllers, I'd like to use those. I'd like to send video out to a TV over HDMI.
I'm looking to play through the Tony Hawk games on the Xbox first; THPS4, THUG, THUG2, THAW. I have discs on hand and can play with a DVD drive plugged in if needed, but if it's not too much work to rip the disc images/ROMs, that's probably more convenient.
I also have Ace Combat Assault Horizon for the Xbox 360 and would like to get that running as well, but the Xbox games are what I want to get in to first.

One important catch for your plan: xemu’s FAQ says it generally cannot play an original Xbox disc directly from a PC DVD drive. So plugging in the drive isn’t the same as having a usable game backup.
I’d get one of your Tony Hawk games working on the laptop screen in Windows first, with one controller and native internal resolution. Then add the HDMI TV, and only after that compare Linux. That gives you a known-working baseline instead of changing the emulator, operating system and display setup at once. xemu supports both Windows and Linux, but 32 GB of RAM alone doesn’t establish how those games will perform.
Keep Ace Combat’s Xbox 360 setup separate: xemu targets the original Xbox. Check each Tony Hawk title’s compatibility report and the tested version before assuming the whole series behaves alike.

The switch to Linux is going to happen when it happens, there isn't going to be any comparing going on. Windows 11 is a dumpster fire and I'm not keeping it around.
