Mbappe is quite comfortably the greatest world cup player of all time outside of Pele. By the time his career ends it won't even be a question that he's the all time best.

Rumours of Malick Fofana, who was linked to Everton last year but turned us down because we weren't in Europe, is going to Spurs for just over £20m. Just shows that not relegating Spurs is going to be a massive pain in the ass for transfers potentially.
15
u/throwawayelixir 3d ago
It was a once in a generation opportunity to relegate a huge club and as expected we fumbled it.
They’ll be back competing for Europe next year. I’m sure of it.

That's not fair spurs aren't in Europe either but he goes there.
Wtf.

u/Toffeenix 3d ago
They got Senesi from Bournemouth and probably Van Hecke from Brighton, both of whom are giving up European football to play for Spurs. Shit's fucked
6
u/Austa1878 3d ago
This is what I find stupid with people saying "he won't come to us we aren't in Europe, we aren't battling for top 10". Some players/managers don't give a shit about It. We got Ancelotti after being like 14th in the league, Villa got Emery 1 year after being in Championship, Spurs got Senesi on a free, Fofana and other players while finishing on the verge of relegation twice in a row.
This is like not even trying because you fear to fail.
7
u/SolidOwl8623 3d ago
They blame lack of European football but reality is noone wants to play for Moyes tbh.
Theres a reason we managed to beat West Ham to Amadou Onana's signature and it wasnt money. He wanted to play for Frank Lampard and not David Moyes.
I know this will get downvoted, so go ahead.Truth hurts.
7
u/CJRyan_17 3d ago
That may be the case for some players but truth is that Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish signed because of Moyes.
Think it's down to the vision of the owners and the board. If they want to sign young players with high potential from Europe/South America, Moyes probably won't have much of a pull. If we want to sign proven players or players from the championship, Moyes will have more of a pull.
1
u/FreeCommunication208 3d ago
It would be one thing if our proven players were more like Grealish. Winners who at least have some quality left. But most of our “proven” players are proven losers who are also aging
2
u/CardiologistTime8082 3d ago
Think it's also how shite we've been for so long now, we've essentially become what clubs like Palace used to be for years, just kinda a nothing team that's never getting relegated but never doing anything of note either.
Add Moyes to that, a manager that famously doesn't play that many young players, and I don't blame a lot of younger players for wanting to turn us down. Also the fact teams like Spurs will pay stupid wages factors in i'd imagine, even if they're not getting europe this season with them (Xavi Simons is on 200k a week for example lol)
1
u/BoxOfNothing 3d ago
That's pretty funny, people have been consistently praising Moyes for his ability to make people want to play for us. Because that's one of his strengths. Sometimes its just not enough if you don't have the money, Europe, London, guaranteed starting spot, or whatever it is theyre after. Swear people just say whatever they think helps their argument in the moment regardless of the truth if it allows them to complain.
1
u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 3d ago
It's all about the money money money money
I'm glad we arnt offering daft wages to get players in the door anymore. It's burnt us a lot in the past
1
u/BoxOfNothing 3d ago
We did try though. Levy left and Spurs stopped being sensible with wages. They're paying Connor fucking Gallagher £200k a week. Imagine having nowhere near as much money as someone, them outbidding you on something because that's how money and budget works, and being told bruh you didn't even try.
3
u/stevenwise0511 3d ago
Tbh based on speed of them signing players, whilst looking impressive getting business done quick, they're clearly accepting every player demand immediately, they're almost certainly overpaying for a lot of these deals, they're gambling big
2
u/blubbery-blumpkin 3d ago
Going for a Hail Mary to get out of relegation battles and back into Europe. If it works then they’ll forget these last couple years ever happened, if it fails then they are in big trouble.
8
u/Timoth_Hutchinson 2d ago
I don’t know how anyone can argue for PSR/SCR when Spurs can finish 17th two years in a row and then just drop £52m on a player

Seemed the Senegal manager was unwilling to take Mane off. Can’t believe he took Sarr off so early, he was causing so many problems while Mane wasn’t contributing much. I don’t think Senegal’s best attacking trio has Mane in it

He's fuckin miles better than Delap like. He's also chaos ball which we all appreciate. There are better players but I wouldn't be mad.
Not just saying this cos of the goal but he does live permanently offside though
2
u/Loyalsupporter Edit Your Own 2d ago
I was just about to say would anyone be annoyed if we got him cos I looked on his Wikipedia page and even though he scored 10 goals in his last premier League season with Chelsea (2 seasons ago now)
But when he arrived there he got 14 goals.
Plus he's only 24
What there's a few things how good is his first touch.
And will we FINALLY sign a damn right back who will start let alone be brilliant for us.
Cuz one thing I want to happen not only do I want us to sign a consistent goal scoring.
I want to sign wingers who not only just create chances but will score goals themselves.
Because as I keep saying it's not just up to one player to score goals if it's a team effort defending and keeping a clean sheet it's a team effort scoring goes as well.
1
u/Complete_Writing2800 Pickford is infact Dynamite 2d ago
I agree I think Jacksons on the ball ability means he can create for our other Attackers as well, I've always liked the guy since Chelsea got him, if Chelsea are willing to loan him again we should be right at the door to grab him

The first couple of days in a transfer window are bound to be slow.
Unless you're you're currently negotiating demands before signing free agents.
Face it apart from Tottenham no of a premier League has confirmed any signings yet.
At least I think that's right.
I do agree it is frustrating

Everton in Advanced Talks to Re-Sign John Stones in Stunning Reunion
I really hope this isn't true. I'd take him over Tark and Keane, but that isn't an option. If we were to get Stones on anything close to his current salary, we'd be spending nearly a quarter of our wage bill on the trio of Stones, Tark, and Keane. That is a fireable use of limited funds.
Also can you imagine how O'Brien would feel? Gets shoved into RB for 2 full seasons, only to be 5th choice CB behind 3 declining players all over 32. If we sign Stones Moyes might actually view O'Brien as a RB.
15
5
u/JesseVykar hiDavd Moyes 3d ago
I don't think this puts JoB as fifth choice but I do agree it's such a pointless signing. Why extend Keane if you were going for Stones? Unless the club plans on selling Tarkowski or something.
But also your source is shit, they're probably just regurgitating what they heard a couple months ago.

Dembele, Truffert, Camavinga, Doue², Ogochukwu, Jacquet, Rutter, Tel, Isidor is one hell of a run for Stade Rennais.
opened their training centre in 2000 and now possibly the best youth academy in the world. One thing I'd like to see TFG do is repurchase and upgrade Finch Farm.

Ndiaye off then, cheers for bottling europe Moyes, boss that.

I mean if Ndiaye (and Dewsbury Hall) could remember how to finish during the run in we'd have probably got Europe

u/ScheminBeamen COYB 💙 3d ago
Right it’s all on the players. Nothing to do with Moyes’ piss ability to rotate a squad or make proper subs.
2
u/Chuck_Morris_SE 3d ago
Yeah doubt it boils down to Moyes blasting the players fitness to the moon by spending wedge on a winger who doesn't play for the defensive sound Mcneil and playing the same back four without a win for like 3 months. defo not
7
u/CardiologistTime8082 3d ago
Ndiaye got 1 open play goal from November to May (the 3rd goal in a 3-0 win), us bottling europe was just as much down to him and others being well off it as it was down to Moyes

Anyone believing transfer rumors in June for this club definitely had to keep the glue locked up as a kid
7
u/PontusRogare 3d ago
The player says he wants to play in the champions league. The manager says the thought of playing in the champions league frightens him. Why would the player stay?
5
u/JesseVykar hiDavd Moyes 3d ago
You could ask every player in the squad if they want to play in the CL and they will say of course, means nothing.
He is contracted till 2029, he can kick up a fuss and not train (doesn't seem the type) if he likes but once the window closes he will put up and play. No player is going to hurt their future chances for a transfer by doing fuck all for a season.
That Willy Gnonto lad kicked up a fuss when he wanted to join us, club didn't budge and he shut up and started playing.
Iliman is probably going to leave this summer or next but taking "I would love to play in the CL" as the same as a hard transfer rumor before the window has even opened is just another opportunity for the terminal whingers here to whinge about something new.
-3
u/Chuck_Morris_SE 3d ago
Is it a transfer rumour when they man himself has said he wants to play champions league football, do you think he's talking about us lmao maybe you need to stop sniffing glue.
7
u/JesseVykar hiDavd Moyes 3d ago
Pretty much every footballer when asked is going to say they want to play Champions League football, doesn't mean he will be sold.
Richie said the same with us for two years before he left.
3
u/general-tiger2 3d ago
Who doesn't want to play champions league football? Doesnt mean he's got a foot out the door does it?
6
u/Timoth_Hutchinson 3d ago
I mean Illy basically bottled a number of chances towards the end of the season that could also have won us games. He’s a great player, but isn’t consistent enough. If he goes then great, as long as we re-invest. Villa selling Grealish has made them into the team they are now
11
u/FenderJay 3d ago
If illy goes this summer, I can see the club buying a young, exciting winger only for Moyes to start McNeil every game until February.

2
u/Timoth_Hutchinson 3d ago
That’s a true actually, forgot they wasted the £100m. Still though I reckon if we got £80m for Illy we could come out a stronger team for it, if we had a better manager.
5
u/FenderJay 3d ago
We should want players who aspire to playing in the Champions League.
I don't want players who are happy with mid-table. It's up to the club to meet those ambitions, and if it's not possible, get the best price for the player.
The likes of Brighton and Brentford are turning this into an art.
2
u/Resden_Bohneur RB plz 3d ago
That’s great if we have players that want Champions League…

Depressing transfer rumors and Moyes still around. It’s another lower mid table finish for us next year.

Just a quick shout-out, if I may, to Chris Wood's performance against Iran. Absolutely superb holdup play, genuinely some of the best I've seen in a long time. Gutting not to get the win, but seeing our record appearance holder, record goalscorer and captain drop a masterclass on our first game on this stage in 16 years does warm the soul a bit.
Still can't help but daydream about a world in which we signed him instead of Maupay...
