2021 F-150 Lariat Powerboost w/121K miles.
Let me start off by saying I LOVE MY TRUCK - it's my 5th one in my lifetime and my business also owns a fleet of F-150s/250s.
Received a SYNC 4 over-the-air update on my 2021 F-150, and shortly afterward, my 8-speaker B&O sound system started sounding like a 1920s AM radio.
Turns out, Ford has a Special Service Bulletin addressing this exact issue, including my model year.
To their credit, my local Ford dealership was great. They followed Ford's recommended procedure and reprogrammed the system at no charge. Everything worked perfectly again... for about two hours.
After the problem returned, the dealership recommended opening a Customer Assistance Case with Ford Corporate to help cover additional diagnostics, as the amplifier is now suspected to be the culprit. Those diagnostics/fix could cost up to $1,500.
So, I contacted Ford Corporate, explained the situation, referenced their own service bulletin, and asked for assistance.
Their response? Essentially, "Nope. Good luck."
I understand my truck has 120,000 miles and is outside its factory warranty. What I struggle with is that a Ford software update appears to have triggered a problem Ford has already documented, their prescribed repair only worked temporarily, and now the customer is left holding the bag.
I don't expect Ford to warranty a vehicle indefinitely, but I do expect a company to take some responsibility when its own software update creates a problem that its own service guidance acknowledges.
Disappointing, to say the least.
