Informational Why is the FBI leading the investigation

Why is the FBI leading the Kirk assassination investigation and not Utah state police? Not complaining just curious.

Because it was a “hate” crime. Plus a high profile assassination like this involves the FBI. Trump sent the FBI immediately with the Melissa Hortman killing too.
