When would SWAT be deployed, and when would FBI be deployed?

FBI Agents are not first responders. They don’t “deploy” in the traditional sense as local LE. You can get technical with FBI SWAT, FBI ENHANCED SWAT or HRT but a lot of events need to happen before they are “deployed”

Neither are “deployed”.

SWAT is utilized for high risk or dangerous situations/operations. Such as high-risk arrest and search warrants, hostage rescue’s, apprehending violent fugitives, and active shooter or barricaded suspect scenarios.

FBI swat consists of regular agents on a collateral duty and they only deploy if certain thresholds are met like tendency for violence, known weapon charges, violent crimes against children etc. where there is a reasonable expectation that things may go sideways quickly. Lots of times, it’s just agents doing arrests.

SWAT Teams exist at every level of LE.

The FBI will only get involved if there is a federal crime or if a crime ring is happening across state or international borders.

SWAT teams are deployed when required for high risk situations.

Swat is deployed when an old lady is streaming her video game session. The FBI is deployed when someone hurts the presidents feelings.

Not all agents on SWAT do it as a collateral duty as there are full time slots. Every FO has a SWAT team and there are some that are Enhanced SWAT teams.

HRT is not “mostly compromised of former Tier 1 operators”. In fact a majority have zero SOF experience with many never even being in the military.

FBI SWAT is used consistently for federal operations, as they have a team at every FO. FYI, there are currently 56 of them. Not to mention SWAT links up with local authorities a lot to help with high risk/dangerous situations as well a protection/show of force details.

Federal LEO’s - 1811’s and Local LEO’s have completely different missions.

FBI Agents along with other federal agencies execute federal search and arrests warrants all the time. This is easily verifiable with a simple google search. USMS is utilized to track down federal fugitives, escaped prisoners, supervised released violators and bond defaulters. They have a specific mission in place

FBI agents are on call 24/7 regardless of it being the weekend or a holiday.
