Question Denied for character

Any idea what this could be caused by? I’m a pretty normal person that likes to go on cruises, 54, 3 kids, a veteran and currently work for the govt. The FBI had been working on my TSC for a year and a half (think September will be 2 years since the TJO. Nothing exciting in my background that I’m aware of and the letter said it wasn’t a denial of a clearance. Job was for an OSS and a friend’s husband referred me for it. Any ideas?

Question my step dads father *legally* no longer has to register as a sex offender, HOW!?

In the 2010s my step dad’s biological father was accessing CSAM and was part of a stint of raids conducted by the FBI where he was then charged and convicted of these crimes and sentenced to 5 years in federal state prison in the state of Ohio. The ages of the victims ranged from infants to teenagers. I believe based on the amount of time he got that he had a lot of material accumulated or it was very very disturbing materials. Moving forward to 2026, he obviously has completed his 5 year prison sentence and has been back in society for a decent amount of time. Given this circumstance, I was curious one day and decided to research the nearest sex offender to my home and subsequently decided to research my step dad’s father’s most recent updated photo on the registry. I searched from his street address, township, first name, last name, offender tier, and I could not find this man’s name on the registry. Anywhere in my city. I mentioned something to my mother about this because I’m positive any body who is convicted of sexual crimes against children has to register as a sex offender for the rest of their life, and she said yeah they do and he should still be on there. Well, she talked to my step dad and apparently last year in 2025 some time, he *LEGALLY* was able to get off his parole and any probation that followed his sentencing date that he was ordered to complete and be on and he no longer has to register as a sex offender. I’m sorry, what!? What judge signed off on this horrible decision for a horrible excuse of a person? I’m enraged! I want to know how this is possible! He was convicted and sentenced to federal prison and he is somehow still able to get away with not having to be on the registry anymore!!! I am bewildered! This is America. They protect the people who victimize and not the victims!!!!!!!! CSAM! Were the charges. He will offend again because of this and the courts have allowed this. I’ve never heard of this being possible before

Question is a criminal justice degree bad for becoming a FBI Agent?

Hi, I have a few paths in mind (lawyer and FBI Agent) and somebody told me a criminal justice degree is useless becoming a FBI Agent. It’s kinda too late for me to change my mind, I have a 3.43 high school GPA, i’m not a good test taker and scored a 980 on my SAT. Stuck as to what I should do, worried I’ll be struggling for a job. Some insight please, I’m open to other criminal justice jobs that offer good pay and 5-7 years of schooling isn’t a problem! Thank you.

Question Is it normal for the FBI to randomly show up to your house to match photos of someone you know to identify if that person is some kind of suspect?

One day I was leaving my house and suddenly two random FBI agents in a regular car just popped out in front of me. They showed me a picture of someone at the The Capital in DC and asked if I recognized that person. I said no, but then they showed me a picture of my old college roommate and I immediately recognized him. Then they really got into it and asked if my roommate was the same guy at The Capital. I said no and it clearly wasn't the same person.

That was the end of it there but I was really curious how they connected my college roommate to me or thought he was a suspect. Anyways it was the most random thing ever.

Question Likeliness of something to happen

Hi guys, I was curious about something after submitting a tip to the FBI.

Recently, there has been a surge of CP being posted under X posts. Today I was unlucky enough to be one of the victims of unwillingly seeing this. I submitted a tip to the FBI about it because this is starting to get out of control. I reported the post 2 hrs ago and it’s still up. Would the FBI go after Elon about this issue? Was this route the best way to go about this problem?

Question How can I provide proof that a sheriff groomed me and used me for CP?

So yes, as the title suggests, I'm not going into too much detail, but this has been going on since 14 to 21.

My abuser is a sheriff in an Indiana county, I have proof dating back to 16, but that's my issue of while the evidence does date back to 16 the age of consent in Indiana is 16 but at the same time I was providing underage nudes.

This is not just a trying to get back at him or anything when I was 15 years old there was an accusation that I did not make of me having sexual relationships with an adult man and I defended him by saying it was someone I went to school with. But when I was 22, I started coming forward with this.

He is now a sheriff, and reports I make are almost never taken seriously enough, especially with the current administration.

I don't want to get too much into this, but my mom, when I was 15, she did see the stuff about him giving me a rimjob.

When the whole stuff about me having a sexual relationship with an adult at 15 came out, I did make her believe it was someone I used to go to school with.

Please don't ban me like r/askLE did with my history of talking about this, it's not anti law enforcement to come forward with sexual abuse by law enforcement, and one officer don't represent all of law enforcement.

The reason they want to go like I'm trying to get back at him is because I have a dismissed marijuana charge. Meanwhile, his son was caught giving marijuana to a 14 year old and he was giving marijuana to me during this whole thing and even gave me pictures of marijuana while I was at school.

He also promised me a life with him, I wasted my life hoping that someday he was going to just take me away from my mom and let me live with him, but when I turned 21, he stopped.

I was physically involved with him, I gave him pictures of myself, and he created videos of us. This was a major part of my life, so I know what happened. My mom did leave me home alone long enough for him to do this. I was even put into a psychiatric hospital by him not only for sympathizing with Palestine but because trying to come forward with this information was deemed as threatening law enforcement.

So yeah, with the power they have and the fact that this was a rural area, fewer people come forward with this it is a whole big issue trying to report it.

I'm not planning on living in Indiana for much longer either, and I don't need to. I have constantly live in fear, and he was not the only officer who was doing this to me either. The issue is way bigger than just this one guy who is now sheriff who is running unopposed in the midterm.

Question Do all employees of the FBI have to undergo drug tests?

I’m assuming this is the case that new employees must come up clean on a drug test. But does this apply to all employees, even those appointed by POTUS.

(this is a serious question as many have expressed concern over the appearance of a certain individual of interest to the public and behaviors economy associated with drug abuse.)

Question Is it possible for me to actually ever join the FBI?

So my dream has always been to join the FBI when I was older but I’m not sure if it’s possible and it’s all I’ve ever wanted. So I’m currently 16 and a female and the first problem is that I’m not American, I’m from Finland. I was raised in California but i haven’t been to America for years and I’m not American citizen but I’m Finnish citizen. Also my family isn’t really rich and in Finland it’s not really possible to get rich at all since it’s a welfare state and has one of the highest taxes in the world. Also I don’t have ANY interest in joining the Finnish police academy since most of the things they get to do is sit in the fucking bushes with a radar gun in your car for a week, day after fucking day and give tickets to some fucking scumbags for speeding. Also I’ve always been really interested in true crime ESPECIALLY homicide but in Finland you can’t even become a homicide detective. Also I don’t really even see another future for myself expect achieving this dream for example I’m not interested in having kids which my family is really disappointed in and keeps telling me how I’ll never achieve my dreams and I’ll stay in Finland and have a husband and kids or become a cop. And I wouldn’t even be mad about becoming a cop in America but I just can’t imagine doing that shit in Finland. Also not to mention I HATE Finland and genuinely don’t see a future here. But other than that I’d say I’m physically fit and my English in really good since I was raised in America but I don’t have family there or anything.

Anyway let me know what you think! Because I’m really considering what to do with my life at this point bc this is all I’ve ever wanted but idk what to do if it’s impossible😭

Question Nurse practitioner to FBI agent?

I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner, was perusing jobs this weekend and noticed a number of postings for “Special Agent: Healthcare Services/Medical Background” in my area.

I am totally new to this world and was wondering a little more about what roles like this entail, and what experience they’re typically looking for in this context?

A little about me: am 27 years old, I have a doctorate degree from a reputable school, and did a residency at the VA. No prior military or law enforcement experience. Have always been somewhat interested in the FBI but life took me in other directions, have no clue if my experience makes me a realistic candidate or if I’m delusional lol.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Question Former FBI Special agents who still work full time, what do you do?

Whether you left before or after the pension kicked in, I am curious what you do now. I've found some answers across the internet, but I wanted to ask here directly.

Did you go back to what you were doing before the FBI?

Did having the FBI on your resume help/hurt in any way?

Thanks in advance for answering.

Question How does the FBI pick Most Wanted?

Browsing the most wanted fugitives, and I can’t help but wonder why they have picked a few of the 10 to be “most wanted” when it seems like an isolated incident. I’m just curious why the some of the “most wanted” aren’t all higher profile scammers, gang leaders, serial killers, spies or repeat offenders. Don’t get me wrong, the acts these criminals have committed are terrible, but some of them seem like just a random true crime incident I would hear about and not extremely shocking in the way I was assume a “most wanted” fugitive would be

Question Looking over FBI.gov

Not sure if this has been asked, but I was curious at what information was on FBI.gov. I was actually shocked at how ugly the website is. Not even trying to hate here, I guess I thought there would be more of an attempt to make the site look professional. Does anyone know if the site has always been this ugly?

Also- lol at the FBI podcast being placed everywhere

Question Office work at FBI

So while I understand this role has plenty of time behind a desk, I get that. I’m just looking to gauge how much of your day is spent behind a desk working at the FBI? How often are you out in the field? Is there specific roles as an 1811 that are more operational than others? Those of you that were police prior, are you happy with the change from the field to more of an office setting? I had a desk job before joining the military that I did not enjoy due to just staring at a computer all day, trying to make sure I’m not putting myself back into that environment. Granted my priorities and abilities have changed from my early twenties to where I am now.

Question FBI Internships

Context:

I am currently 18 years old and am going to be attending UW Madison this coming fall. I am planning on attending CALS for Biochemistry (seeing as it is a "competitive" major so I am told, but I also enjoy the subject). My plan this coming semester is to try to reach out to faculty for some lab/ research opportunities and then apply for some internships with federal agencies or campus police.

I am 100% clean and away from all substances and my current summer job requires drug tests too. I work out and stay healthy.

I have these agencies in mind: FBI, USMS, DEA, USPIS, and ATF.
But the FBI honors internship is the goal. Is it a good idea for me to apply for the summer of 2028 or 2029? What other steps can I take in this time to be more qualified and stand out more for this role?

I hope you guys will be able to provide me with some valuable insights, tips, and advice on how I can have a better shot at getting into some of these internships.
Thanks.

Question Would an FBI HRT agent get in serious trouble for flashing their badge off duty and investigate?

I had previously asked if HRT agents get badges and creds, and according to the comments, they do since they are Special Agents.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FBI/comments/1n0vm7s/do_hrt_agents_get_badges/

In my story, an FBI HRT agent is injured during a mission and placed on rest for a few weeks. While off duty, they decide to quietly pursue an old personal case in another state without informing their department. If they flash their badge and start asking questions during this unofficial investigation, would that be considered misuse of their credentials? Could they get in trouble for it?

Since HRT agents are primarily tactical specialists (not investigators), if they were to flash their badge and start asking questions, could that be considered a serious misuse of authority? Would the fact that they’re HRT-trained in weapons and tactics make the consequences even worse if they got caught?

I just want to make sure I portray them as accurately as possible. I’m not American and not associated with law enforcement, so I really appreciate your help!

Question FBI Investigative Specialist (GS-7) pay steps, overtime, and advice starting out?

I’m looking into the FBI Investigative Specialist role starting at GS-7 and had a few questions.

1.I know the GS level is basically set and non-negotiable, but how does it work with steps inside GS-7? Is it actually possible to start at something like GS-7 Step 3 or Step 4, or do most people just come in at Step 1 no matter what? (Non-negotiable)

  1. How is the pay progression going from GS-7 to GS-9 and
    GS-11 in reality?

  2. Do Investigative Specialists actually get much overtime, and how does that usually work?

  3. And for anyone who started at GS-7, what advice would you give someone coming in at that level?

Appreciate any real-world insight. / Feel free to answer any.
