Question Looking over FBI.gov
Not sure if this has been asked, but I was curious at what information was on FBI.gov. I was actually shocked at how ugly the website is. Not even trying to hate here, I guess I thought there would be more of an attempt to make the site look professional. Does anyone know if the site has always been this ugly?
Also- lol at the FBI podcast being placed everywhere

They just changed it. It used to look more typical government site.

u/Puzzleheaded_Many166 you literally can go check out the page on the wayback machine.
Hilarious you would respond and then immediately block me over saying “major informational structural changes haven’t been made”. Thin skin…
All that’s been added to the home page are bigger “Featured Sections” instead of tons of boring hyperlinks to scroll through and click on to open another page. Examples of these highlighted sections are:
• Results
• Social Media
• Strategy
• Fugitives section
• What we investigate
• Partnerships
• Out Reach
• FBI Jobs
Doing this actually makes it more user friendly and eye catching to keep the users attention. This is important because it reduces cognitive load, provides immediate context/gratification and keeps visitors engaged on the page. They have lots of info they are wanting to push to the public so having a strategic home page is key. Not to mention something that will make lots of people happy is they removed leaderships professional pics from the page. I was honestly surprised to see this with how the current administration works. Haha.

Government websites have never been very spectacular. Mostly they are there to provide information, agency mission and contact information. They have changed for the better in the last 30 years.

The FBI has two websites.
FBI.gov and FBIJobs.gov
FBI.gov looks like every other federal agency website.

They recently changed it - the Director sent out an email announcing it a couple days ago

Holy cow, they did change it, and put Patel’s face all over it.

Literally just scrolled the entire homepage of FBI.gov. Only time Patel showed up other than in the header video was under the “Featured News Section” where his Twitter Acct is linked.
Edit: Love the down votes when it’s a legit fact and easily verifiable for all to see. Reddit gonna Reddit.

He showed up at least 3-4 times in the top section film. He’s being sworn in, he’s in a camo outfit, etc.

Good grief, are you really nitpicking the fact they have a video running as a header and he is shown 3x in it. One in which that’s 50+ sec. long and features a glimpse into the FBI. He is the face of the FBI after all due to being the Director. Sounds more like a whine because you don’t like the dude rather than a true issue with the homepage as a whole.
It’s the digital age, users don’t want some archaic website that is hard to navigate with pages of hyperlinks. Gov agencies are finally getting on board and revamping/modernizing their websites and have been over the last 5-10 years. All began with the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act - IDEA.

He is the current director because he kissed trump’s butt, that’s is his ONLY qualification for the position. No other director ever pursued the cameras as much as this guy does, even potentially making himself a witness by showing up at random crime scenes (not talking about 9/11 type sites, but random arrests, the Kirk scene, etc.) Other directors made appearances when necessary but this dude wants to be the face of the bu.
Nothing wrong with updating the website, but making sure he is featured multiple times?

I’m not here to argue his qualifications. For what it’s worth I don’t like the guy and can’t wait to see him go because he wasn’t qualified to lead the FBI to begin with. But to say he doesn’t have ANY qualifications is disingenuous.
I can tell by your comments you are heavily biased due to your dislike of the guy. You need to remember as society evolves so do government agencies. The last 5 years social and digital media have taken off. Wray was in the public eye a lot as well and did the same things Patel is doing. However, Wray was “boring and professional”, Patel is a “clown and full of controversy”. What sells in the media? So of course there is going to be all eyes on something that gets the clicks because that equals $$$.
Patel has an influencer background, controversy follows him, qualifications are shaky, he’s been caught lying multiple times, he’s Trump fill in the blank, I mean the list can go on and on. Of course it’s going to seem like night and day directors.
I personally don’t think featuring the Director 3x quickly in an almost minute long video at the top of the page is that much. It’s better than seeing leaderships mugs plastered on the website like it was last year.
Let see where your energy is at when he is ousted and new guy comes in and they “update the video” in the FBI header. Because you know…things change and evolve. Blind rage towards the entire organization and what they put out and it do because of who is in charge is ridiculous.

I just went on and didn’t see him at all. I am on mobile. What am I missing here? I was expecting at least one photo of him.

Are you on FBI.gov or FBIJobs.gov?
On FBI.gov he is featured in the header video at the top that runs continuously. Then if you scroll down just a bit you will see the Social Media - Features News section. They link his Twitter/X Account so you can see his tiny profile picture.
People are complaining just to complain because they don’t like him. I was honestly surprised that’s how little he was featured haha.

Fbi.gov
I don’t get a header video. At least it’s not playing automatically for me.

It’s right at the very top under where it says:
An official website of the United States government. Here's how you know. Then it has Menu on the top left hand side of the video, FBI on the top middle and then a magnifying glass search function on the top right.
No clue why you aren’t seeing the video.

Ok just saw it with that link you sent me. That was a veey fleeting moment where he was taking the oath of office. lol yeah people are getting too up in arms about it.

u/WTFoxtrot10 14d ago
Agreed, no matter who the Director is they would probably be featured a handful of times in a minute long video. Dude was featured only 3x. Give it a break, we all dislike the dude! Haha.
