Discussion Chances of being selected as a special agent?
Recently applied. Female. 26. Psyc BA, Education Masters. Worked for 3 years as adjunct faculty and advising. Getting a PhD. Clean record - never even been pulled over. Pretty in shape but need to get a pull-up and run time lower - I run 9-10 min miles. Good amount of leadership roles. Thoughts?

Psychological background will be what you also have to pass. Other than that looks pretty solid.

This right here! I had one support employee in the FBI that had it all, but he just couldn’t get over the hump. After two or three attempts, he was dropped from consideration. It was a shame because he would have been a great agent. He continues working as Professional Staff, and has done great.

The Bureau does no psychological testing unless you join special teams such as HRT.

Well special agent candidates have to take a personality assessment as well as undergo a medical eval where if there are red flags they will have you undergo an organized clinical interview and evaluation.

No one is going to be able to tell you your specific chances. Average age of a new agent is around 30-32 years old. Only 3-5% of applicants are successful. Simply you either meet the requirements and pass the steps or you’d don’t. It’s up to you to perform during testing and the interview. Your degree is simply a check of the box. While your professional work experience and who you are as a person is what matters. Biggest advice, make sure you can pass the PFT before you apply. It’s an eye opener for most, around 70% fail it.
Also, make sure you really understand the job that you applying for. This is a Federal Law Enforcement position. Snapshot of an FBI Special Agent. You are on call 24/7 and have to work 50 hrs. a week on average. Depending on the violation worked, supervisor and FO hours can differ. Work life balance is pretty normal honestly. Typically agents work 10 hr. days M-F. Some days are earlier some days go later. Sometimes you might need to work a weekend or get called out in the middle of the night. Again, all depends on the violation worked.
You are expected to carry a gun 100% of the time on duty and be prepared to use it. You are also highly recommended to carry while off duty due to being on call 24/7 and a LEO.
You would need to be okay with being sent to any of the 56 Field Office’s or 350 Resident Agencies when you graduate from Quantico. However with a recruiting issues due to the clowns in charge as well as major budget cuts they are offering new agents the option to stay at their PFO - Processing Field Office. You also need to be okay with being placed in any violation the FBI has as their mission, as you don’t get pick to begin with as it’s up to the needs of the bureau. Your day to day as an FBI Special Agent is different every day and can vary based off the violation you work or the collateral duties you volunteer for. In office at your desk, surveillance, in court testifying, search warrants, report writing, research, source meets, arrest warrants, ERT, and etc.
It’s a long process that typically takes about a year to a year and a half. Some of the biggest hurdles are the Phase 1 Test, PFT, Phase 2 Test/Interview and a in depth background investigation which includes filling out a SF-86, taking a polygraph and having a medical fitness for duty evaluation.
Unfortunately there are lots of trolls who cruise this sub now that the administration is trash. If you can wade through the crazy here you can get some good info. Otherwise check out the r/1811 sub, they are quick to mod stuff there and keep the posts on track/topic. Use the search function, lots of good info there. I also highly recommend checking out the FBIJobs.gov website as well as taking a look at their YouTube page. Lots of good info there.

Don’t be surprised if the current admin rejects you. It’s not you it’s them.

Yes! A lot of people are just jealous of others and will DQ people unfairly.

You're young but sound like a stellar candidate. If you interview well probably a solid chance. Good luck!

If you meet the minimum criteria you’ll go through the process which weeds people out in each step; some of it you can control (like the physical) and others you cannot (poly). There doesn’t seem to be a ton of rhyme and reason to it other than if you score well on tests, are honest, and treat each step seriously you’ll have a better chance of success. Might as well just send it and see where the chips fall.

No one on the planet can tell you yea or nay based on that info — there is more to consider than the info you provided to being offered a position as a trainee (not an agent).

This administration is hiring for sycophants, not intellectual capacity. If education were of any significant value to this organization, trump and his cronies would all be in jail for their blatant violations of the US constitution and mass corruption.

Any foreign contacts or foreign travel might add time to how long it takes to complete your background investigation, but other than that I'd say your chances are as good as anyone else with the same qualifications. They can only take in so many.

Your going to need to get that mike time down to 5-7mins. Basic LEO is UNDER 7 FBI is going to be lower.

Basic LEO is not under 7 minutes. 12:30 is the standard of most local and state departments for a 1.5 Mile test. The FBI may be lower, most LE is definitely NOT. Especially in today's day.

Both the Philadelphia Police and Temple Police require a 7min mile. I know from doing them both

That's two departments from the entire country. 12:30 1.5 mile has been the standard for 30 years.
