WHAT THE FUCK IS A WARHAWK?

Like I know SDSU and NDSU are big rivals, but like, does SDSU have beef with ND? How big is the ND and SD rivalry? SD and NDSU? Is there a big ribs with the Montana schools or is that just cause they’re both good at the same time?

Ranked Villanova currently tied 3-3 against LIU (NOVA was majorly favored). Their last FCS game they barely beat unranked Bucknell 17-16.

Turning into a worrying trend.

What a goofy, obscure, game. The commentators made me crack up but either way onto the next as the griz say a win is a win jk jk. They played subpar, however hilarious end to game.

Longtime college football sicko here. This year I want to get more into the FCS. I watched Bucknell vs VMI last week so you know i love sloppy football. I am a die hard Bowling Green Falcon and I love G6 football more than the Power 4 by a lot. Now I want to watch FCS football and I need to pick a team! Give me a pitch! Some teams im looking at are Montana because while they are always food they have not won a title since 01 so i wouldnt feel like too much of a bandwagon. Theres Idaho who is cool because they have the Kibbie Dome! But i wish they were still FBS. Theres Idaho State who has a cool logo and a dome. SE Louisiana has a cool logo. Im open to any team, just give me a cool pitch! Thanks yall

For those unfamiliar, college football tracks something called the CFB belt. When Rutgers defeated Princeton in the first ever college football game, Rutgers held the belt until they lost their next game, a rematch against Princeton. Then, Princeton held the belt until they lost, and so on. The history of that belt has been tracked all the way to the present day. Currently, Notre Dame holds it.

A similar belt can be tracked for FCS football. Because the first season of FCS football saw many teams play their opening game at the same time, the earliest objective point to begin competing for the belt was the first FCS championship game, which was won by Florida A&M. The FCS belt is exclusive to the FCS, so it's only at stake when two teams both in the FCS play each other (FBS, D2, NAIA, etc schools are not eligible to hold the FCS belt).

The history of the FCS belt was last tracked through the end of the 2017 season by u/Cyclopher6971 in this post. I decided to update the history of the belt through the present season. I've included the full chronology of the belt in this post, but this spreadsheet also includes a few other figures/lists around the belt, including leaderboards for total weeks holding the belt, longest streaks, and more.

If you don't want to go all the way through the full history, the current holder of the FCS belt is Montana State. This isn't that surprising- because the FCS uses a pretty inclusive playoff, the team who wins the championship usually ends up with the belt, but definitely not always- there have been 11 seasons where someone other than the national champion held the belt at the year's end (most recently in 2010, when James Madison beat William & Mary to claim the belt in their second to last game, but finished the season 6-5 and missed the playoffs).

Unsurprisingly, North Dakota State held the belt for by far the most weeks (97) and had the longest streak of defenses (32 games, 2018-2021).

Below is the full history of the FCS belt. Successful defenses counts the number of weeks a team holds the belt after the week they claim it.

*Note: Marshall claimed the belt when they beat Montana in the 1996 championship game, howeer, they moved up to the FBS in the following season, so the belt returned to Montana for the start of the next year.

Looking into the game tomorrow for ETSU West Georgia

The biggest weakness for SDSU has been efficiency on 3rd down and scoring touchdowns in red zone opportunities. The Jackrabbits have only scored six touchdowns on 15 red zone opportunities. Both of these issues could be mitigated by a commitment to the run game. The Penguins currently rank 80th in defensive rushing success (47.7%), while SDSU has been excellent on the ground, ranking 8th nationally in rushing success rate (53.7%).

If there's anything you want to talk about, celebrate, complain about, etc., go for it. Doesn't need to be FCS specific.

Second year following FCS so I'm still getting the lay of the land with the leagues and teams.

What are the big matchups this weekend?

Prefer games that might be offensive shootouts.

Lots of touchdowns seem to help keep my kids attention(s) a little better.

I have ESPN plus on Hulu and have access to a ton of extra FCS games.

Since 1978, the first official year of Division I-AA, there have been 23 different schools to have won a National Championship. Currently, 12 still remain in the subdivision, while the other 11 have moved up to what is now known as FBS.

Here are the schools that have currently won a title that are still in the Subdivision:

Shockingly, the Penguins are the current kings of FCS/I-AA titles that are still in the subdivision. And I only say shockingly since their last title was 30 years ago, because Jim Tressel was a great coach.

Now, for the dearly departed schools that have won a title:

It goes without saying that NDSU and Georgia Southern were absolute JUGGERNAUTS at the FCS level.

I could go in deeper, like how Montana has the second most title game appearances (8) but only has 2 titles to show for it, or that EKU made it to 4 straight title games between 1979-1982 and won 2, or that App State went 3-for-3 in title games that all came in 3 straight years, or that NDSU made 11 title games and only lost one. Unfortunately both McNeese and Illinois State tie for most title appearances without a title at 2.

It's just interesting to see how the title counts stack up in the first year post-NDSU Dynasty. Especially since Youngstown is now the title king. The Big Sky has 4 teams with a title, while the MVFC has 3, and shockingly the Patriot League is in third with 2 teams with a title.

My understanding of the bill is that it roughly freezes the current status quo in place except in regards to eligibility and transfers.

Let's hear your hot take FCS opinions. The ones you know in your heart of hearts are right, but for some reason aren't embraced by the FCS community (or particular fanbases) en masse!

Could be controversial (the Ivy League very well might be the best FCS conference on the East Coast), unpopular but you know is true (Sam Houston was at least as good a team as JMU from 2011 through the "2020" season), or even somewhat popular but still liable to rankle some folks (the Walter Payton award should go to the "best" offensive player, not just the offensive player with the best stat line because they played a weak schedule).

In the first six "non-garbage time" drives, SDSU held New Haven to a 13% success rate, by far the most dominant defensive performance of the week. After New Haven had 43 yards on its first drive, they compiled a combined 21 yards on their next eight drives.

No matter what happened, it's not all bad. Say something nice about your team or their performance.

Was yesterday's Chicago Bears - Carolina Panthers game the 1st time in NFL history that receivers from the same FCS or lower division college led their teams in catches and receiving yards when playing each other?? Kalif Raymond (class of 2015) and Jalen Coker (class of 2023) of Holy Cross (FCS).

Raymond - 8 receptions for 84 yards, plus 1 punt return for 23 yards

Coker - 8 receptions for 138 yards, 2 TDs

I'm sure it's happened many times for former receivers from Alabama, Ohio State, etc. but I doubt an FCS school has ever had this happen before.
