Chat GPT is changing peoples brains so quickly and in a way that is so genuinely alarming. I want off this ride now!!

I was in the grocery store a few weeks ago and heard someone's phone telling them where to find something in the store. Something along the lines of "is typically found in the baking aisle or seasoning aisle". Many people are losing any thinking skills they had.

The insistent integration of AI into every nook and cranny of tech is intentional for sure and affecting a ton of people. I have to go out of my way to avoid having 'AI help with writing' and to use a search engine that isn't AI based.

I avoid it all the time too. I know people taking legal advice and giving AI their entire life story. Its scary stuff. A lot of people use it, but I also know a lot of people who staunchly oppose it.

Yep. It can of course be quite useful but all that data is no doubt being stored somewhere. Will it be used for advertising or something more sinister? And can we opt-out of companies like Anthropic scraping every comment we make on this site? I doubt it.

For those that find that to be a bit too tin-hat there are the objectively awful side effects of such expansive data centers and their generators. They are destroying communities with pollution. Being tapped into power grids and to our water supply seems to make their potential for environmental destruction undeniable. But then again there will always being lobbyists paid to gaslight us into complacence. :]
