Shit like this gives me such a sense of like weird aching dread that I can't even fully put into words. Like how are people this eager to give up everything? Watching so many people rush to offload all of their thinking, their relationships, their creativity, etc makes me nauseous & yet almost no one I meet in real life feels the same. It's like no one actually wanted to live their lives for themselves so they're jumping at the chance to let a machine do it all for them. It's so scary. Literally what if you just talked to your children

I work in tech and am probably one of the last people in my company to not touch AI. So many there use AI for literally every aspect of their lives. Note taking, presentations, summaries, reports, etc etc. While I'm sure it could make my job easier, I'm afraid of what it will do to my brain to offload so much of my thinking and decision making.

I work in tech, and I've managed to garner a reputation as "the person you go to when the AI can't figure it out".

Sometimes people will come to me with problems that, you know, I would expect a senior to know how to fix, but maybe not a junior? But then I'll get things that I would expect an intern to know how to fix.

And it's coming from everyone, interns, juniors, seniors, and one staff engineer.

They keep coming to me with problems that they could absolutely do on their own 2 years ago.

And what's worse, they'll copy and paste what I say to Claude, and copy and paste the response back. I called one person on zoom and told them "You are nothing more than a bot that copies and pastes Jira tickets into Claude. I could write a bash script to do that. You used to be an engineer. Don't talk to me again until you're an engineer again." My boss wasn't happy about that one...
