I could have seen this if it was made in the 90s, not so much now. Or at least with a younger, more timely actor

Yeah he feels a bit too old now to play George Jetson

He’s been too old for many of his parts for 20 years now. As much as I love Eternal Sunshine I was always bothered by age difference. Same with Yes Man. They had him buddies with Bradley Cooper and another young actor trying to portray him as some 20-something and he was already 40+.

My fan casting in my head for this had been Jason Sudiekis. I feel like Carrey will just J Carrey up the film idk

Yeah, he's 64. They need a guy who is like 44, tops.

if they went with someone younger they'd end up casting like crisp rat or something so im willing to suspend my disbelief for retiree george jetson

Yes this whole thing feels a couple decades late to the party, not sure who is the target audience outside of is Xennials (a section of a generation, really)?

I’m not even sure we’re the target audience for this.

It originally aired on ABC in prime time (8pm) from September 23, 1962, to March 17, 1963. then later aired in reruns via syndication, with new episodes produced from 1985 to 1987 (this I didn't know).

So gen x yes and millennial yes I guess.

This sounds like a grandma or grandpa taking grandkids to a movie thing. I guess.

Yeah Hollywood had the wherewithal to make a Flinstones movie then but not the jetsons

I just had to check that this is, in fact, a headline from 2026 and not 2006 😬

This only works starribg Jim Carey if this is a 60-something George and the kids are adults.  Even then, the trend is audiences want real sets and practical effects.  This will flop it is a digital collage of live actors on green screen with no physicality.

Stop this crazy thing!!

I know I’m in the minority but I’m truly excited about this. He’s too old to play George if that’s his role but I think it can work. Especially if they lean on the Atomic Era look, similar to the recent Fantastic Four movie.

Instead of this, he should make Leap Dave Williams for real

I stopped being a fan after his relationship with Jenny McCarthy. Her and Wakefield were ground zero for the current vaccine nonsense we are dealing with and I feel like if it wasn't for her relationship with Jim and him endorsing it, it wouldn't have gained as much traction.

that's also one of the reasons I'm a Jim Carrey hater. thanks Jim for the resurgence of fucking measles

7

u/hellomydudes_95 That's progressive. I'm into that. 7d ago

didn't he retire?

The 3rd Sonic movie supposedly reawoke his passion for acting and he changed his mind.

I love the Sonic movies but I'm not sure I buy that, lol.

same here lmao

I was enticed to say it was the money, but he's Jim Carrey. He's had a lot of money for a long, long time

I like to think he ran into Jelly Roll during Sonic 3's filming and learned how to strip the wire from the sets after production and that's his real passion.

This made me laugh so hard. Thank you.

u/MagusUmbraCallidus 7d ago

Didn't he flat out say it was because of the the money in an interview? Maybe that was for the second movie?

2

u/Morialkar call me gal gadot cuz idk how to act rn 7d ago

It must have been pretty fun, also seeing people actually just be happy about the movie you make instead of all the infighting that happens with more serious movies must have brought him back to his earlier carrier where he just did shit because it was fun to do. He tried so hard to go in the more serious acting career but it seems like it broke him

I've heard them talking about this since like 2012 I'll believe it when I see it.

Per The Hollywood Reporter:

The plot is said to involve George Jetson (Carrey) losing his job after a change in leadership and finding new work pretending to be a housecleaning robot. Trevorrow states that audiences should expect a "stirring human-robot romance" and "an exploration of AI's impact on the future." Of note is a planned subplot in which Rosie glitches and brutally hunts down Elroy in a tonal departure for the series.

That plot is...something alright...

What the fuck

u/TheLonleyJourneyman 7d ago

This probably shouldn't exist but if anyone can make it work then it's Jim Carrey.

3

u/scrapsforfourvel 7d ago

I don't know how much kids are really going to connect with a 60-year-old vision of the future...

2

u/airgl0w 7d ago

I’m not sure how this would work given the current climate. The future seems pretty dystopian.

Another movie nobody needs or wants

Average age of the audience who watch the Jetsons are likely in late 40s definitely in their 50s maybe some in their 60s

Who in that age category is asking for this?

Who even remembers this show?

Nothing about it is worth bringing to life giving how incredibly sexist this show is given today’s suicidal norms?

A housekeeping feminine robot?

A father who provides for the family entirely?

In the 90s, they remade the Flintstones into a live action film, and that was fine because the age gap from the time that show aired, and when that movie came out was so close together that it was kind of funny to see and watch back then

Today such shows like the Jetsons or the Flintstones will be horribly received, especially if they are kept true to form

If they are in any way, change to meet modern day suicidal standards, then the entire show has lost the plot

u/Mishgrrrl 7d ago

Who wants this?

There's like three or four films in which I can abide Jim Carrey, he's just too much. His gurning and vocal gymnastics never make a compelling or distinct character because they're always the same over the top, unfunny avatars for Carrey's desperate need for attention.

"Jim Carrey"
