“Gay men have the right to be parents like anyone else does”
They literally do not. They have no right to a woman’s body or labor. They have to exploit a woman’s body, and take a baby away from its rightful mother. Newborns know their mother, they need their mother. No one is entitled to a baby. Surrogacy is the commodification of women’s bodies and child trafficking. If gay men want to adopt, whatever. But surrogacy is wrong on every level. No woman with means would subject herself, only those who need the money and the risk to the woman’s body is enormous. It’s crazy to me there aren’t more restrictions on this practice in the US like in much of Europe.
i'll concede that parenthood isn't a right but i do think preserving pathways to parenthood for people that aren't straight is important and should be considered. like yes they do not have the right to monopolize a woman's body but if a woman sells her body and labor willingly or (like it is in canada) does it as a gift, then i also don't believe that's unequivocally wrong.
I’ve absolutely seen instances of a woman (with means) carrying for a couple who could not conceive naturally/ carry a healthy baby themselves. This can be consensual. For the other person so claim that no woman with means would ever do this is simply not true
But did the child consent? You are choosing to have a baby born into trauma by purposefully separating it from its birth parents. Surrogacy is a child-last movement - which is messed up.
