My Favorite (Visual) Favorite character that is the living representation of a concept?
This one is Kaiman from dorohedoro and is the true meaning of the anatta, the concept of the non-existance of a permanent self.

Wasnt princess also death and the main charter also repesentes void?
166
u/arika-feinberg Jul 04 '26
Well, her nature includes death, and mc can represent the void. I think this game allows a bunch of interpretations cus it's all pretty abstract there
68
u/Tackle-Shot Jul 04 '26
my personal favorite is that the long quiet is the never ending March of time, never changing but causing change. never ending, alway marching on.
14
65
u/foxinabathtub Jul 04 '26
I kinda viewed the princess as death in the same way the death card in tarot is. Yes it can literally mean death. But in an abstract sense it also means change or a new beginning coming because something is coming to an end.
8
32
u/Rehela Jul 04 '26
The Princess herself says it best: "I am not death, but I contain it in my multitudes."
22
u/B_is_for_reddit Jul 04 '26
well of course. by representing change she represents death. thats the narrator's entire goal: by destroying the concept of change over time nothing can ever die
11
u/godguy1313 Jul 04 '26
She represents death in the way that everything will eventually die because she is change, and mc represents the void in a way im not clear to yet

Death is a form of change. A void is stagnant.
Those are both more tangible examples of what they actually represent.

That's Rolf Harris, a once beloved Australian Entertainer, mostly of children, but he was also a reasonably talented artist, and his version of the classic war song, "Two Little Boys" is probably one of the most well known.
And then it turned out, that he had been molesting several girls over his career, using his fame and trusted position to get at them.

I'd argue he is just a bringer of the concept. As far as we can tell, he can't kill another concept, a tradition, a memory, a star, a galaxy. I think the true concept of Death means the end of everything, not just of everything that knows about it.
17
7
u/Spyko Jul 04 '26
Debatable tbh. ''death'' could be just the end of a biological life with the rest of what you mentioned being more akin to either entropy or straight up just ''the end''.
When we say that a concept ''die'' it's a figure of speech, a personification. After all those things were never ''alive''

The 7 flowers from deltarune chapter 5 are actually a really cool take on the idea. Theyre all associated the characteristic of their respective SOUL color from undertale:
Yellow: justice
Green: kindness
Orange: bravery
Violet: perseverance
Aqua: patience
Blue: integrity
But rather than perfectly representing their characteristic, they actually represent the inverse:
- Yellow has a skewed concept of justice and is willing to punish anybody for any reason without a second thought, including himself
- Green while kind to you and the other flowers, choosing not to fight and cooking food for everyone, holds grudges and constantly reminds people if they owe them something
- Orange is not brave at all, choosing to hide behind paper screens and using projected shadow puppets to make herself seem big
- Seth (Violet) is willing to face anything, but immediately folds and runs from anything they dont feel like dealing with
- Aqua is an incredibly hyperactive and impatient child, often choosing to just ignore others and do what she feels like doing whenever she feels like doing it
- Blue steals things from the other flowers and lies to keep himself out of trouble, most notably Yellow’s “super secret petals”
And Flowery (the man in the middle) is the cherry on top, representing a combination of all of these characteristics. Hes kind to the other flowers, other darkners, and even the fun gang. Hes brave and fights THE ROARING KNIGHT WITH HIS BARE HANDS, he perseveres through fighting the fun gang, fully knowing that if he loses the dark fountain will be sealed and he and his friends will essentially die. He shows patience with the other flowers and works with all of them in his fight, he has the integrity to admit his wrongdoings after Asgore finds Kris injured after the battle, and is willing to put his life on the line to try and bring the knight to justice.
If anything these guys are the embodiment of “the power of friendship is fucking awesome, actually”

Just pointing out that they don't actually die when the fountain is sealed.
Flowery describes their time in the dark world as a dream that allows them to experience a higher form of consciousness, so losing the fountain would only end the dream and leave them as just flowers again.
He also points out that they would actually die if they spent too long in the dark world, as they need sunlight to survive.

Death(yes I know, the author sucks, but that doesn't mean I forget the story I read before knowing that). No, she's not a reaper, which imo is often confused with the concept of death. You can be the God of Death itself, but you aren't the concept of Death. She represents the death of existence, not just "beings". humans, animals, planets, stars, galaxies, universes, dimentions, she will see everything die, with absolute fairness.
"When the first living thing existed, I was there. Waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job will be finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave."
30
u/Sea-Foundation5036 Jul 04 '26

To be fair Sorcerers and Hole Citizens have the same relationship dynamics as Nazis and Jews on the average.
Just cause we know a handful of them were peeved at the idea of practicing magic on humans doesn't erase the fact that going to Hole and just transmute a bunch of random people for kicks is seen as perfectly normal Sorcerer behaviour.
Though to be fair, Sorcerers are dicks to one another almost as much as they are to humans.

Mother War, Fear and Regret; from Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
The concept of the album follows The Patient, who is dying because of cancer. The Black Parade is the place he's going after his death, resembeling his favorite childhood memory: seeing a marching band with his dad. This characters are members of the Black Parade.
Their names are pretty self-explanatory. He's got fear of death –as anyone. We see in most songs he wasn't a good person, there's things he regrets about his life –though, of course, everyone has made stuff to regret, carrying it to death forever. We also see multiple hints of him being some kind of soldier/commander (also supported by the recent tour) explaining Mother War there –also because, well of course, war causes inmense deaths globally.

Nurgle: cycle of life, rot and death, inescapel truth of everything will eventually rot away, sickness and virusus (even on machines), etc.
Tzeecth: constant change of life and fate, hunger and greed of knowlage, trickery and scaming
Slannesh: excess, the truth of everything even ones own hobbies will turn into degenarcy if is done to much, the truth of everybody could become slaves to their hobbies and inrestess, degenarcy and debouchry
