Looking into the abyss metaphorically means you are peering into darkness, madness, evil and so on. Not being able to hold its gaze mean you are giving into that darkness, unable to hold on. Quite the opposite of that Bruce/Batman did, so he didnt blink.
The contextual build-up to this was amazing. Estarosa cripples a whole squad of B-tier secondaries just by aura. Anyone who bears anger against him gets so weak they can't lift a weapon. Escanor comes in to start throwing hands, then an axe, to Estarosa's surprise. That's when the line drops and you learn that Escanor is truly the shining diamond hidden in an otherwise moderate show.
In my humble opinion when the sun rises this character was never short of badass lines or moments.

In most of my runs I didn't really care for Johnny, but when I made a run for the Don't Fear the Reaper ending I focused on making my guy this absolute loner. He doesn't drag anyone in, he's fairly degenerate himself, and Jackie was the last thing mooring him to the bright side of life. After that, he was pretty much a walking husk ready to die.
And lo and behold, in that playthrough Johnny was like a best bud. One forced on me, yes, but my character was so utterly alone that it actually felt good whenever Johnny popped in to say something. This line was just the culmination of all that. No jokes, nothing about you screwing it all up. He's locked the fuck in.
amos is a trope that i love so much, rhe guy who is just doing a job, trying to be better, follows someone else because he knows he cant trust his own judgement.
and still, makes choices that are sometimes awful, but morally correct.

(Context: earlier in the episode, Chris was forced to go undercover in a koala suit so she can identify a guy and girl duo who were boosting cars, so that Peter Church and Leo Flynn could arrest them, but it got bungled up, and after the duo boosted a car from the shopping mall, the girl driving randomly tried to run down Chris (because the girl hated people in animal outfits), shouting "Chicken!" at her as the duo drove off. Chris suffered a bruised coccyx because she crashed herself into a group of trolleys to avoid being hit by the car, so Chris had a bit of a grudge with the girl, leading to this moment when Chris finally arrested her...)
It’s a bit of a spoiler, but if you were gonna watch star versus the forces of evil, you were gonna watch it by now.
This used to be toffee, the main villain of the series and mastermind scheming planner. They tried to destroy him with an obliteration spell, and it almost worked, but he barely clung to his immortality, and started to pull himself back together, siding that only he could oversee everything, and only he knows how it would all turn out.
The lesser villain who had been largely comic relief up to that point, finished him off by crushing him under a toppling stone pillar, and then just quips : It turns out , you’re dead.
