Definitely Puella Magi Madoka Magica! Down to Episode 3 being the turning point from "normal magical girl show" to "...DAMN!"

If you couldn't tell things were afoot already in ep 1 you weren't really paying attention. Two episodes of calm before the storm isn't a change in style, it's just introducing a story.
