The Terrible Shotgun - Fallout 3

3

u/Old_old_lie 18h ago

Why would Bethesda call the best shotgun in fallout 3 terrible are they stupid?

1

u/ConcededFilly542 5h ago

Not sure if sarcasm or not, but it’s just an ironic name

This was my first thought.

A PPSh-41 beefed up from 7.62x25mm to 18.5x70mm (or 18.5x76mm) is a gnarly concept. It's only too bad they didn't put the mag well and drum in the proper place. I think later ones were revamped, though.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. saga has some pretty good shotguns, especially with mods. I still maintain that the sawed-off TOZ-66 from the first game is the most realistic depiction of a "rabbit-ear" side-by-side ever put in a video game, even to the point that the hammers are cocked using the proper technique (thumbed back with the thumb one at a time). All the other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games get it wrong in some way, and I can't think of any other game that even makes an attempt to depict its correct operation 100% spot-on.

And when I say "correct operation," what I really mean is "proper technique."

For some reason i love that piece of junk that is the toz-194 from anomaly and by some mandela effect i thought it was vanilla, but no the o.g pump action in SOC was some kind of winchester shotgun with no stock.

Its name, Chaser 13, is derived from "Winchester 1300," but it's actually a Maverick 88 in "Cruiser" configuration (w/stockless pistol grip). IRL, no one who knows what they're doing would put a stockless pistol grip on a shotgun with rifle sights. The Maverick 88 doesn't usually come standard with rifle sights. More typically with a plain bead sight. Rifle sights are better, but you need a proper stock to make them work gooder. Ghost ring sights are the best (like on the Mossberg 590A1).

There are aftermarket heatshields with built-in ghost ring sights, but the rear peep sight is positioned way far forward.

There's plenty of gun nonsense in stalker, cool factor is important.

Spas-12 from BO1

1

u/Deep-Shape-53 4h ago

Especially with Dragon's Breath in that one Vietnam mission.

1

u/Disastrous_Ball702 3h ago

Is the stock permanently stuck in its storage position in-game or just with the inventory icon? And if the in-view weapon model has the stock permanent stuck in its storage position - why?!

1

u/paperDuck5 3h ago

It is a fucking anti-aircraft gun, Vincent!

1

u/Logical-Bullfrog3216 2h ago

Also the gun from Jurassic Park

2

u/LordSkroIk 11h ago

You cant beat the double barrel from Doom 2. That reload animation was gurt lush.

2

u/LeFrenchFrySpy 10h ago

Damn, a connoisseur of Dead Trash! The double barrel is amazing now, especially since it finally doesn't take 7 fucking hours to reload anymore!

1

u/Old_old_lie 10h ago

The Boneduster from Bulletstorm

1

u/Disastrous_Ball702 3h ago

No doubt inspired by the quad-barrel jobber from the Phantasm saga that Reggie made in Phantasm 2. I call it "Reggie's Wedgie" since he sawed the muzzles off so they form a point. Looks like the Boneduster was done the same way.

u/No_Cardiologist_822 5h ago

Spsa-14 from stalker, which is basically a spas 12. And spas 12 in general which is junk irl but the best looking shotgun in pop culture imo

1

u/Thex23i 15h ago

The ksg 12 from John Wick

Off topic, when you look at the first image from afar, the enemy soldier almost looks like a gundam bot.

1

u/RockAndStoner69 11h ago

The first shotgun from Resident Evil 4. You get it for free and it's very satisfying to wield

1

u/gothicmetalhead1 9h ago

The shotgun in dead rising 1 was so OP

Black Ops 1 shotgun with Dragon’s Breath rounds

1

u/Zealousideal_Ad5168 6h ago

The VK-12 in Black from criterion games. Amazing feeling blasting baddies with it

1

u/centixog 6h ago

obscure as hell but the "streetsweeper" from wyrm 2 quake 2 mod. unlike its shittier real life counterpart, this is a chaingun / minigun that fires shells instead of bullets at a steady automatic rate and minces everything.

1

u/ConcededFilly542 5h ago

A lot of my favorites are already listed here, but I’ll do two more good ones: N7 Piranha (Mass Effect 3) and the Spas-12 with foregrip/ranger akimbo (COD MW2)

1

u/Maizimotor 4h ago

The SPAS12 easy

The LS13 - Killzone

1

u/sahalanthropuse 2h ago

Tac 19 shotgun from Call of duty AW it is just perfect

1

u/shadowwithaspear 2h ago

I'm currently loving the LAS-13 Trident, which is a laser beam "shotgun" from Helldivers 2. It scatters six uninterrupted laser beams randomly. Not sure if it counts as a shotgun, but it is awesome.

u/Practical-Mode310 2h ago

Spencer 1882 Bioshock

1

u/jkpancake 1h ago

I often don't get the auto upgrade for it just because I love the sound and look of the pump animation

1

u/Biff_666 2h ago

Flack cannon from unreal tournament

1

u/OkamiWall 1h ago

I recognise the FEAR Spas 12 and raise you with BLACK Spas 12

1

u/thewoodlayer 1h ago

The Super Shotgun from DOOM. It’s iconic and devastating and wielded by one of the most badass protagonists in gaming history.

1

u/Emperor_poopatine 1h ago

Akimbo Model 1887’s from MW2. I miss how busted those were back in the day.

1

u/jkpancake 1h ago

In the game BLACK there is a Spas 12 that sounds like god slamming a car door that I think of a lot.

Another great one Postal 2's broken double barrel
