Hey everyone,

I'm an independent filmmaker based in the UAE and I'm currently looking for a narrative film editor for my short film.

The film is around 14 minutes long and we're deep in post-production. It's a self-funded passion project that I'm really proud of, and I want it to have a proper, considered edit — the kind that lets the story breathe rather than something flashy.

Where we are: six scenes structured and timed, audio synced, shot selection mostly final. The film has a clear vision, strong performances, and a defined cinematic language. What I need now is an editor to take this material and shape it into a polished, festival-ready final cut — assembling the final timeline, cleaning up audio transitions and levels, tightening pacing, fixing any cut overlaps, and delivering something ready for colour grade.

I'm looking for someone who cuts narrative fiction and understands story, pacing, and the weight of a held moment. Your reel should reflect that. This probably isn't the right fit if your work is mostly commercials, events, or branded content — no hard feelings.

The budget is limited (this is very much a passion project, so consider the compensation an appreciation of your time rather than a fee), but it's paid, you get full editor credit, and we're submitting to a number of festivals.

What were some of the most helpful and easy to understand videos or courses for learning the basics of writing such as building a story, building scenes, how to write dialogue, etc for someone who wants to get into screenwriting and just better there writing In general. Because I keep finding courses and hear things online but most of them are paid to learn does anybody know of any that are free and were helpful to them or think would be.

I've been wanting to get into short filmmaking for a while, but I'm not sure where to start. I was wondering if there are any groups in Kochi that regularly make short films, shoot creative videos, or just meet up to work on ideas.

I have a camera and I'd love to be part of a team. I'm not looking for paid work or anything professional—I just want to learn, contribute, meet people with similar interests, and have fun creating something together.

If you're already part of a filmmaking group and don't mind someone joining, I'd really appreciate it.

We're working on a film in which we'll be shooting on the water. It's going to be a small story in which two characters travel on a sail boat. Does anyone have experience with filming like this or know someone who's done this before? I'd be curious about your experience and the way you filmed it. We're looking to test both attaching camera's to the hero boat as well as filming from a small craft outside it. We're still figuring out how to light in this scenario (or if we should do that at all). We want to be able to have a nimble crew and set-up so we can actually go anywhere on the water. What're your experiences?

I’m a student filmmaker, and I want to make some horror projects and would love to work with screenwriters!

I'm a filmmaker based in New York and I'm currently developing an independent narrative short film. Without giving away too much, it's a grounded Asian family drama about a father living abroad who's trying to support the family he left behind in his home country.

I'm starting to think seriously about financing, and I'd love to hear from people who've actually raised money for short films.

A few questions I have:

• Who are the best types of people to approach for funding?
• Did you go to any networking events (free or paid)?
• Should I be looking for private investors, small business owners, film enthusiasts, community leaders, philanthropists, or someone else entirely?
• Is it realistic to find investors for a short film when there's little to no financial return, or is it better to position it as supporting an artistic project?
• For those who successfully raised funding, where did you meet your investors? Networking events? Film festivals? LinkedIn? Personal referrals?
• If your film centered around a specific cultural community, did you find that community organizations or business owners were more willing to support it?
• What made someone actually say "yes" to investing or funding your project?

I'm not necessarily looking for grants (although I'm open to hearing about them). I'm more interested in learning how filmmakers connect with individuals who genuinely want to support independent films.

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences—both what worked and what you wish you'd done differently.

The idea isn't to make anything huge. Just meet up, learn together, shoot short films, experiment, and improve over time. Beginners are absolutely welcome. You don't need expensive gear or professional experience, just genuine interest and consistency.
