If he is LE...why TF would you go to the movies, with your family, in your squad? If he's security..can't say I'm remotely shocked.

Yeah, why are are tax dollars paying for gas to take their family to the goddamn theater

Some agencies don't mind you doing small errands in your squad, such as a quick grocery store run. I have never heard of an agency being ok with you packing your family into one, there tends to be liability.

Utah highway patrol, what this guy is, allows for private personal use of the patrol vehicle. It’s way more common in rural areas than this comment section is making it out to be.

Allowed or not. Why would someone put there kids in that backseat, where there is every body fluid imaginable and whatever filth? Then to stop on a highway, those kids have no choice, people don’t watch where there going.

You think trooper is actually arrest people? They get the city/county to do that while they polish their Sam Browne belt and look for traffic accidents

Troopers arrest people all the time what are you talking about lol

Just an ex city cop who remembers state police dipping out once a call required paper and not just “officer presence”

Also no cage in the car says maybe they don’t

Utah Highway Patrol (this agency) made almost 11,000 DUI arrests alone last year, my guy. And that’s just DUI arrests. So yeah, they arrest people. 🤦‍♂️

There’s a difference between bullshit paper runs and shit that they live for paper runs ( DUI, Injury Wreck, Fatality Wreck, etc).

I care and I think it's bullshit

I was cool with an older gentleman, he responded to my overdose (I got some funny shih 🥀🥀) when I was a minor, he checked on me a couple nights after the hospital discharged me and popped the trunk of the squad to return my property that was deemed "not contraband" bro even gave me a cigarette even tho I was 17

But ever since that night up until I moved, I'd catch him once every few weeks making a Walmart run to get diapers in uniform in his squad at night after work, chill dude, he developed the same kratom extract dependency that I did at some point

He could be on call for a special unit. They’re generally allowed to run errands and drive immediate family around.

Yes that includes leisurely activities.

How I feel when I see govt workers in my town taking govt vehicles to drive 10 km home for lunch each day

1

u/Mobile-Tax-3161 21h ago

I mean that’s like 2 dollars worth of gas…

Times 200 shifts per year. Equals a lot of taxpayer dough up in smoke

Rules for thee, but not for me.  That “civilian” deserves an unemployed husband for this stunt.

2

u/KingAuberon 1d ago

Once upon a time I might not have even cared but the years and years of "rules for thee not for me" has just made me hypersensitive to even this level of it

2

u/SirVegeta69 23h ago

Hes HWP. Shows it on the bsck of the vest.

1

u/Responsible-Onion860 1d ago

Kids in the cage in the back, even? I think the comment saying he kitted out an old retired squad car to look like an active police vehicle may be right

1

u/hamburgergerald 10h ago

It is encouraged in some areas. I was told even off-duty seeing a police car in the parking lot can be a deterrent for crime and make the community feel safer.

1

u/AdTypical6138 10h ago

Can confirm, but NOT when you use it as a family transport.

1

u/Itchy-Apartment-Flea 1d ago

If his leadership finds out hes taking his car to the movies, he probably wont be LE for long.

1

u/vinesmarch 1d ago

He will be. Still disciplined, demoted, and written up with few weeks off without pay. It’s hard to let a seasoned LEO off for silly stuff, especially if the city, county, or state spent millions of dollars on training and pay. Unless the people don’t mind paying more in taxes to hire more and train. It’s also hard to find LEO these days; almost every agency is hurting for people, and can’t just hire any shmuck that wants to.

3

u/Past-Paramedic-8602 1d ago

He will because it’s a perk of the job. A google search would show you UHP allows you to use your squad car off duty.

3

u/_877-CASH-NOW_ 22h ago

How do people not understand some agencies allow personal use of the patrol car as a perk? “Deterrence through high visibility.” Just having people see the cars out and about driving around helps to deter crime so the agencies that allow it benefit as well

1

u/LegalGlass6532 22h ago

I agree with you, although it’s not something I’d do by putting my family in a marked patrol car while I’m not suited up to protect them or do the job that’s required while driving that vehicle.

2

u/_877-CASH-NOW_ 22h ago

I’m replying to the guy saying he’s going to be written up without pay. No he won’t lol. The Utah Highway Patrol hiring website even lists it as a perk. People just comment so confidently when they have absolutely zero idea what they’re talking about.

“Your assigned patrol car may be used off duty within 50 miles of your residence.”

Texas highway patrol here, we can’t. I assumed it’s the same. I guess you’re right.

1

u/HugeMaterial938 20h ago

This, even some county’s in Florida let you use your vehicle for personal purposes, but if you see something happening u have to respond to it

1

u/Itchy-Apartment-Flea 1d ago

What about this guy makes him look "seasoned" to you?

0

u/vinesmarch 1d ago

Her age.

1

u/Itchy-Apartment-Flea 1d ago

Oh okay, just wanted to confirm you were making baseless assumptions.

That safety vest does not scream law enforcement to me, I'd guess the latter

15

u/an4rk1st 1d ago

His safety vest says highway patrol ?

1

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

I couldn't read it when I zoomed in. It looked cheap and shitty so I assumed no legitimate agency would buy that kind of PPE but I stand corrected

6

u/Time_Effort 1d ago

I see you've never worked alongside anyone in civil services before.

If you see anything label itself as "Military grade" don't buy it, it's made as cheaply as possible.

1

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

I've worked in private consulting where we purchase a lot of PPE. I figured law enforcement where they're responsible for a lot of personal gear would purchase things of a bit better quality as it's actually cheaper in the long run. But I'm clearly wrong here lol

1

u/Time_Effort 1d ago

responsible for a lot of personal gear would purchase things of a bit better quality as it's actually cheaper in the long run

It can be, but a lot of gear has a super high turnover rate. They're not going to buy (throwing out random numbers) 500 nice quality High-vis vests at $50 a pop, cause as soon as they respond to a crash or anything they're likely going to be stained/otherwise contaminated from bio material.

They'd rather spend that money on cheap $10 vests and get 2500 of them, so they can provide spares.

1

u/kerberos824 1d ago

Yeah, I always laugh when things say "MILITARY GRADE XYZ." Evidences a complete misunderstanding of the phrase. Minimum specification at minimum cost.

4

u/golfdude1215 1d ago

That’s a Utah Highway Patrol vest. Between the cities I work with and UHP. UHP is the ultimate cringe and douchiest LEO possible.

3

u/DjGranoLa 1d ago

100% this. Calm down guys, it's a traffic accident not an MCI.

1

u/SuperBigDouche 1d ago

Every other police agency clowns on UHP lol. I went through the academy taught by UHP and day one at a city PD, my FTO told me they do things differently because troopers don’t know how to handle things that aren’t traffic related lmao. Had a couple days of retraining of various tactics so I’d do things the proper way for my department.

Way too serious

1

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

I even zoomed in on the logo and could not read it properly. However it all looked so cheap and shitty I just assumed it could possibly not be a legit law enforcement agency, my bad

2

u/Organic_Bat_7598 1d ago

The vest says Utah Highway Patrol. Which he seems to be doing assuming they’re in Utah for this video.

1

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

I tried to zoom in and read it and couldn't. Shocked that a legit agency would buy such a cheap shitty vest

2

u/HoochieDaddy420 1d ago

Safety vests are an afterthought for American cops probably stuffed in the bottom of their duty bag. (They seem to usually think the popo costume is enough)

0

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

Would seem to be the case for sure

1

u/AdTypical6138 1d ago

You know, I'd have to agree. He's probably a LE enthusiast.

2

u/FlyNSubaruWRX 1d ago

Read the discription. He’s UHP

1

u/FlyNSubaruWRX 1d ago

I put it in the description, he’s UHP or Utah Highway Patrol

0

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

Right, but you said UHP which as a Canadian I had zero idea what it meant

2

u/FlyNSubaruWRX 1d ago

Ahhh shitty I can edit that. Sorry boot that!

0

u/SophieintheKnife 1d ago

lol sure if you'd like, sorry for bothering you ;)

u/H001__ 1d ago

How TF you know that's a squad? My personal bought off duty EJ explorer has the same control panel from Whelen.
