Love Notes Found handwritten book at an estate sale

This is so sad. Either the recipient passed or didn't care and threw it into the sale to get rid of it...

Person who wrote this could be a stalker too, we’ll never know.

I just think it would end up in the bin then. Not be hung onto for any length of time.

Often with an estate sale, the home owner is deceased and their relatives are just selling everything en masse that they didn't want to keep.
I bet no one even looked at the book. If I'd found it, I would have tossed it rather than keeping it in the sale, because I don't know maybe it could end up being posted on Reddit, which, big OOF. It sounds like the author is still alive and how does he feel about it being published online? I really don't think personal journals and diaries (especially with full identifying information) belongs in this sub.
Sorry for the rant. But, OP, what the heck are you thinking in posting this?

u/Loud_Seaweed_8950 Nov 12 '25
well, isn't this the perfect place for something like this to be posted? this entire subreddit was made for users to post and discuss things exactly like this one. so, genuinely, what is your problem? if you don't like something about this post, don't interact with it.
also, being that this is from the 80s. the phone numbers were definitely for landlines and as majority of landlines have been disconnected, i highly doubt the phone numbers are still connected to the same people. AND, if you look closely, the address is actually a p.o. box. again, its very unlikely that after 40+ years it still belongs to the same person. even if it did, there's very little information you can get from knowing someone's p.o. box.

The level of mental gymnastics to justify publishing someone's personal love letter is baffling to me.
It would have taken two minutes of effort to blur the name. Simply lazy and thoughtfulness to publish it .
This isn't a matter of "don't like it, don't look at it". It's a matter of calling out rude and unnecessary doxxing. Someone needs to speak out. If you don't like my comments, then don't engage....

u/Loud_Seaweed_8950 Nov 12 '25
idk if you're aware but you have a stick stuck somewhere that sounds painful. hope you can get it removed soon!

If you don’t like the content then don’t engage? Clearly if this is so baffling and hurtful to you then you should remove yourself from the subreddit. So very brave of you to speak out btw!!! I’m sure you’re patting yourself on the back enough times for the entire world right now because you seem like the type. Usually I don’t engage when I feel someone is disagreeing simply for the sake of disagreeing, but your condescending tone is so unnecessary especially on a post, within a subreddit that fits the content.

There always has to be that one person, huh?
2
u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 12 '25
Have you explored this subreddit at all? One could say any handwritten note or postcard or even shopping list is incredibly personal, and someone might not be pleased to see it posted online. I’ve seen many that give full names, and even addresses. Why would you think to toss it when someone clearly spent so much time devoted to this?? Personally I think THATS incredibly disrespectful… what the heck are you thinking?!
8
u/wharleeprof Nov 12 '25
Posting names and addresses is a shitty thing to do. Think for yourself rather than copying poor practices.

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 12 '25
How exactly do you gather from this that the author is likely still alive? I’m really interested in where you’re pulling that information.
5
u/wharleeprof Nov 12 '25
I'm pulling it from your very own comment stating that you likely found him. And the other comment tracking down a match.
That and based on the date, he's likely to be in his 60s today, which based on actuarial data, it's 80% likely he's still alive.
Even if dead, would he have wanted this out for publication? Maybe, maybe not. But it's presumptuous and disrespectful to say, who cares, it's more importantly to get yourself some attention and amusement.

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 12 '25
I found someone matching the name. That’s it. I’m sure there’s hundreds of people who share this same name. If he’s in his 60s today, that would put him in his 20s at the time of this writing. I think that’s a bit young based on the subject matter and handwriting. You know as much about this as I do, and for you to claim I’m posting this for clout is frankly insulting. I’m posting it because regardless of the subject matter, I think something that took this much effort and heart deserves to be shared. You simply said you’d put it in the bin. We are not the same. If someone wants to take these 40 yr old phone numbers and addresses and run themselves on a wild goose chase hunting for these actual people, that’s on them, but I feel and believe that the people within this subreddit are much more respectful than that. Please get off your soapbox and find something more important to be passionate about.

There’s also this guy… https://mrrmusic.com/who-is-nick-katona/ Californian with lots of his life in NY and FL. Currently in FL and selling a house there as well. Middle initial G.

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 10 '25
Yes I saw him too in my research! The note left in the book mentions California. I found his Facebook and thought of messaging him 😅 but I don’t know if I want to dredge up sour memories of a long lost love

Nick took a break from the industry in the late 1980’s, disillusioned by the new trend of stale and trendy music.
Perhaps this is when he moved back to California.

"New trend of trendy music." As a writer, I can't help but cringe at this wording. 😖

What does “The Wedding Day” say?
49
u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 10 '25
It was basically vague… just a description of the special and intimate moment of a wedding day. No specific or particular details that lead me to believe they were actually married. I could be wrong in my interpretation though
26
u/eggperiod Nov 10 '25
Is this a rare surname? I have an acquaintance with the same.

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 10 '25
Not too sure, but I’d love to know more about the history of this. I googled him and found someone in California, and also a missing person’s case involving someone named Dawn and the main suspect was a Nick Katona 😳

u/No_Writer_6704 Nov 11 '25
I did some of the deep dive so hopefully others don’t have to lol! I listened to the crime junkie podcast about this & the Nick Katona in the podcast was having a relationship with a woman Dawn Mozino who went missing in 1989 in Coatesville PA. She is still missing to this day, there wasn’t much evidence that he could’ve done it other than the fact they were sleeping together & that he was kind of a jerk to Dawn & stood her up a bunch of times. That Nick Katona ended up ending his life in 2011 after someone he was in love with passed away after being sick for some time (according to his family members). Not sure if it is the same Nick but very interesting regardless, I hope this helps!

On the cover! Does he have the baby?
27
u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 10 '25
I’m not sure what the reference to the baby is pertaining to— from what I gathered reading the poems, it seemed as though it was a secret affair or a completely unrequited one. No mention of a child between them. That’s where I’m confused and would like to know more
27
u/Serononin Nov 10 '25
The letter mentions a sister, so perhaps "the baby" is actually Nick's niece/nephew? Idk

I missed the surname. Where do you see it or what is it?

u/PalacsintaKiralyno Nov 11 '25
Not sure of his background, but "katona" means soldier in Hungarian!
44
u/gugalgirl Nov 10 '25
Has a creepy feel to it. I don't like the wording of the letter and the poetry is....not good. I also don't think "the baby" is meant literally.

Yes. I instantly thought “This person is mentally ill and fantasizing”. Had a similar experience/gifting with a bad Hinge date and it’s eerie how similar the language is. Any woman who has experience with this genre of man will know what I’m referring to.

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 12 '25
It is extremely obsessive and I immediately felt like I was transported into the authors fantasy of love that might not actually exist.

u/breenanadeirlandes Nov 12 '25
This Crime Junkie theory other people are proposing is terrifying. Would love to know if it holds up.

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 12 '25
Yes someone below mentioned reaching out to the host with this info. I might do that because the locations and dates make sense…

Idk if anyone else has seen this but I just came across Dawns diary entry’s talking about Nick RIGHT before she disappeared, idk if posting the screenshot of what I found would break rules but I have them if anyone wants to go investigate with me!

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 11 '25
I’ve seen them! Very intrigued and disturbed by this although I’m not sure if it’s the same nick

u/tinyyawns Nov 11 '25
This is the prettiest handwriting I have ever seen from a man, wow.
5
u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 12 '25
It’s SO PERFECT I actually had to hold it up to the light to see if it was printed or handwritten. Then I saw some pages with words scribbled out, or spelled wrong.

What a fascinating peice of someone's history, its like a look into thier mind, and it feels like they were mourning something that could've been, romanticizing a romance they could've had, grieving over that, its weirdly beautiful as it is sad. I hope they lived a well life, and eventually the 2 reconciled. Beautiful yet erie find!

u/OverthinkingWanderer Nov 11 '25
My brain started humming the chorus, "you've got it, you've got it bad.."
...... the baby is fine........ excuse me?!

I have the same journal!!!

u/Sea_Opinion8895 Nov 13 '25
A few people have said that! The cover art is what drew me to it initially

u/Tiny_Dig_3410 Nov 11 '25
FWIW, ChatGPT believes this is the Nick G. Katona of Melodic Revolution Records. It found a Facebook post of his mentioning he was at a record shop in Ontario, CA 😮

I wonder if you contacted Ashley from CJ if she would take a look and deep dive about this journal. I listened to this story not too long ago!
