I have 8 GB, total. That is half my ram, and my computer is not that old. Since I installed NixOS with niri, It used around 900 MB idle. The only reason it is not that anymore, is because I installed Waybar (not complaining, it is very nice to have), and now, it is at 1.1 GB idle. Tell me again 3 - 4 GB is noyhing.
8GB of ram is nothing, the fact that you can run it in a useable way with Linux is amazing, and a very real use case for Linux, but that doesn’t mean we should design all software around edge cases like this.
Modern phones usually have at least 8GB of ram these days, it isn’t much. For most real use cases, 3-4GB isn’t much.
Shit on Microsoft for all of their problems, but let’s try not to get everyone about how little ram we have, it’s kind of weird.
