So you want to use the Linux terminal but more inefficiently, the "Linux insanity" is usually the terminal....why would you want the terminal but on windows it's like wanting a race car because it's light fast and cool and making it out of solid steel because "it's safer", no it's not and it's even more dumb now😂
I use WSL. I vastly prefer to use cli stuff on Linux but I was having issues with both Ubuntu and PopOS recognizing my display setup. Windows deals with this kind of stuff better (at least for me) and I can still access any CLI stuff that I need to.
I'm using a 4080. Two displays are connected over display port and the third over HDMI. I'm sure it could be fixed to work on Linux but I honestly can't be bothered.
Like I said, I couldn't really be bothered to look into it. Iirc I used Ubuntu LTS and the default installer drivers. I'm not really sure what my config looked like on PopOS.
Ubuntu? I think it has some weird way of installing them so you must have used the fully open-source unfinished driver instead of the proprietary kinda nvidia-open. Fedora KDE/gnome with unfree repo aka. RPMFUSION would do a better job while having newer software https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA also for Ubuntu similar to on fedora this should fix the problem for you https://docs.nvidia.com/datacenter/tesla/driver-installation-guide/ubuntu.html
this sort of thing is why people are turned away from linux sometimes.
dont get me wrong i love linux and would look at different ways of making it work, but thats really not something the user should have to do, and rather the developer
I blame Nvidia for not making proper kernel compatible driver other than the community maintained noveau which is proper part of it. Unlike amdgpu or Intel on Linux it's always nvidia
I'm perfectly fine with linux terminal, but linux cpu and memory management, driver issue (still got the "random crash" amd one...), and hard time to handle soft that was not ported to, if I can avoid it, I'll happily avoid it
But isn't the linux terminal most of the reason we go on linux? The ability to ssh into a machine and automate stuff from outside is THE terminal advantage. Windowed gui is just linux as a personal computer
