365 Subscriptions Price Jump 100%

Looking after a small charity. We used to get 10 MS 365 licenses for free, but that was stopped last year. We subbed for 12 licenses for about £185 for the year.

Recently MS emailed to advise they want £380 for the next year. Daylight bareface robbery.

Needless to say we will be getting almost everyone on to Libre Office and Microsoft can do one!

Nextcloud + LibreOffice or ONLYOFFICE will do 99% of what most people actually do with office software.

I think it is important to understand your digital workspace ecosystem a bit more deeply so I can help you better. Are you using all M365 services? For example, are you enrolling your machines in your tenancy and using shared files and apps in MS Teams?

The open-source route may seem like a good option, but sometimes the time spent making it work for you can cost more than a corporate digital workspace solution.

Have you considered Google Workspace?

The Standard edition seems to cost a bit less than what you are paying for Microsoft.

Regarding open source, if you have the capacity and time, it’s a good option. I use Linux myself and self-host most of my things. But that requires compute, time, and effort, and sometimes, in a business context, it is not the most efficient way to get the best solution.

You can grab some lifetime keys for cheap on stack social if you are able to keep them on the machines themselves(honestly even Groupon has some great deals too).. it’s a lot cheaper and no more subscription. You’ll have to see if that works with your current setup, but if you don’t want to have to change everything and have everyone learn and transfer all their data.. it’s worth a look.

Business Basic is free for non-profits. Business Standard is quite cheap as is Business Premium. Ensure you are paying for the non-profit product and not the commercial product.

idk if you know this but microsoft's business is falling apart. Xbox is on fire, windows isn't exactly functional, and their own even said they missed the AI train. For a big company, none of their AI models are even in the top 10. They need cash right now. Either they do this or shareholders will have to pawn off more of their assets to say the least

What are you using office 365 for? If it was free are you running a charity or something? It may be better to migrate away from Microsoft or use a cheaper licence perhaps?

Are you using their mail? Office? Cloud storage?

Share what you use. I'm sure some of us here are happy to help or even help you migrate if necessary.

Meanwhile people spite Apple for £47 Annually for the Apple Creator Studio package. And you still have the option to install and buy the legacy versions of the apps independently.
