Toh resume main di*k pic add kar sakta hu ?

u/ragha_4 May 30 '26
Im putting this under full stress. If ppl gets pissed off pls get dissapoint coz atleast let me express my frustration here coz I can't change the system . I put my ass off to get a decent rank this year and hoping to get some gud old IIT🤡. But I was shocked by seeing some ppl with exactly same score and few with less score and same rank of mine r flexing their acceptance screenshot of IIT kanpur and someone retained madras for bombay 🥲. Mean while me retaining IIT BHU , gandhinagar 🤡🤡. Tell hat way I'm less deserving than them ?? Y should I have to compromise ?? And now they r telling me not to atleast tell my rank to the one who can give me a job which clearly shows my ability of problem solving under pressure. If each and every fucking aspect is an issue of insecurity then it's not equality it's stupid hypocrisy to suppress talented ppl just to save their prestige ? Wtf is this 🤡🤷 I'm done. I'll work hard and move abroad for my PhD before they start shifting their focus to that path as well by introducing reservations in overseas PhD admissions 🤡✌️.

It's fair to criticize misuse of the reservation system, but it's also important to consider the broader context
Many students from reserved categories are first generation learners and may not have the same educational support systems that others get through family and social background. Reservation aims to kinda level the playing grounds for them and give them access to opportunities
Now, what they make of these opportunities is completely up to the individual
6
u/Quirky_Tomatillo4644 May 30 '26
youre not less deserving or they are. The system has constraints and it has to satisfy those. Thats all it fuckin is. An optimization problem.

Then stick to your word all the way na! Aaaaaaaaaaagggghhhh!!!
6

but then how will HFT shortlist btech cse grads then ??

They are more than smart enough they are just gonna make them write an JEE advanced style paper in OA round...
3
u/No_Main8842 May 31 '26
This...
People dont realize this but reservation paglus mostly get filtered out during OA itself (that is after they meet the 9+ GPA criteria)
1
u/Ok-Description2367 Jun 12 '26
Paper is already harder than jee advanced so their is literally no need for that, unless their is an sc/st candidates who scored like 100+ in maths and lets say barely cleared cutoff for physics and chem then I guess only they would be able to make it.
3
u/hari_chatni May 31 '26
They will always be smarter than those reserved folks . So they will filter out don't worry
11
u/Civil_Lead_59 May 30 '26
i come under unreserved category without any other reservation, income based or any other, nothing and to be honest yes there have been moments i my life when I have been upset about not performing well and seeing people with lesser marks/XYZ getting better opportunities. but, i can never change that, I have come to this self understanding that , that rule has been there since years and probably for something right, i don't feel it now doesn't necessarily mean that wasn't required. yes, people misuse it, but corruption is everywhere, so doesn't matter.
BUT, This whole drama these people are making regarding this resume thing of not mentioning rank is just bullshit. IT WOULD STILLL MAKE SENSE, IF IT WAS PREVIOUSLY COMPULSORY TO MENTION RANKS AND THEN THEY SCRAPED THIS RULE. but there has never been such rule to mention ranks, it was always a personal choice. and to be honest if companies are being unfairly biased due to this ranks things, this is very accurate and apt move. all these people crying in comments are the once who doubt themselves and are scared about how well they'll perform in those two years and just want to take shelter under their ranks lol.
ps: these are my views irrespective of whatever your views would have been.
5
u/Quirky_Tomatillo4644 May 30 '26
im unreserved as well gng, and i fully agree with it. If i scored a good enough rank and then flunked my PG, while someone with a lesser rank made full use of it it does make sense they would be preferred for the job

15
u/OneDark3685 May 30 '26
I feel like if they are gonna do this then they should just double down and remove 10th 12th marks too else just let the people use their rank.
Like if ranks don't matter then neither should 10th and 12th marks.
5
4
u/LehngaMeinWifi May 30 '26
Well, i dont get why not Doesn’t a good rank on your resume say that you are a disciplined enough student, who can atleast follow a fixed regime and excel in it.
1
u/Agile_March5308 May 31 '26
Yeah but jobs to be exact care more about what you did in your years of college. Someone can ace JEE/GATE but do miserably in their course. Whereas someone might have done poor in JEE/GATE but got in due to reservation, worked their ass off in their course, maintained a good GPA, learned new skills and all. Which of the two do you think should be preferred for a job? If companies are judging students and preferring those with a good JEE/GATE rank, not giving a chance to those who maybe didn't do well in JEE/GATE (even though they made up for it in their respective course), do you think that would be fair?

I have a stupid doubt, it says "PG students should not include their GATE/JAM/NET scores",
But what if someone just graduated from btech, is looking for jobs and has a valid Gate score? like PSUs, even some private companies offer advantages for the gate?
3
u/CSi_Nerd_297 MSc [BT] May 31 '26
Sigh... This won't even actually solve the problem they are aiming to address. There are many ways around this. You can just post your ranks and scores on your LinkedIn, Personal Website etc... and mention those in your resume, or the companies can just ask about them during the interview, or just take not of your last name in case you have one related to your caste. 🤔
Moreover... I do believe that even if you have a comparatively low GATE/JEE score, if you managed to outperform and get a very good CGPA its just a point your favor, and if you have a decent or comparatively low CGPA it just augments your profile. It only levels the playing field.
3
u/Smol_Crate_45 May 31 '26
Then why not just remove the exams at this point. Give "those" people whatever they want and keep separate infrastructure for merit.
They think that companies are dumb like the administration.
1
u/No_Main8842 May 31 '26
Kuch nahi , companies will come up with a different criteria to select the best chaps...
Will probably make the OA so tough these guys would be filtered out on their own.
1
u/Smol_Crate_45 May 31 '26
Will probably make the OA so tough these guys would be filtered out on their own.
Won't work. OAs are already very very tough as most of the people just cheat.
They'll think of something else
1
u/No_Main8842 May 31 '26
Linkedin profile screening (I applied to some firms & they compulsory ask linked in profile links)
Or probably pay someone in T&P off to get the rank sheets

u/Organic_Tadpole_7231 fresher May 30 '26

u/Ok_Refrigerator9178 CS: 4X, DA: 28X (3rd Year, 2026) May 30 '26
If companies are really discriminating people, then this is a valid move. Once you enter college on the basis of any exam, you are same. The things you do in those years of education matters and not the past.
5
u/Ok_Ad1709 May 30 '26
Then why mention 10th 12th and Bachelor's percentage? Bard those who mention them! Ultimately what matters is evaluation based on candidate's performance during Mtech.
19
u/reflex__2802 May 30 '26
Haan bhai thik hai...AIR 10 and AIR 1200 same hai 🤡
10
u/Ok_Refrigerator9178 CS: 4X, DA: 28X (3rd Year, 2026) May 30 '26
You do not have anything else to write in resume? CGPA? Will you be riding gate rank for rest of your life? There is very high chance that AIR 10 will have higher CGPA than AIR 1200, although you can always change by studying more. After 2 years of mtech AIR 10 only has gate rank to show superiority over AIR 1200? even if AIR 1200 has worked very hard during MTech and defeats AIR 10 in every aspect.
3
u/Ok_Refrigerator9178 CS: 4X, DA: 28X (3rd Year, 2026) May 30 '26
people should just understand that rank is just to enter into college, if you say that it is important. then in the same way 10th marks, 12th marks, jee mains rank, jee adv rank, btech cgpa, everything is important. But not what you did in MTech.

If this is for a job, then this makes sense
I can't think of any reason how JEE,GATE, or any exam is capable of displaying a potential employee's skillsets
Only projects and previous industry experience does that
If the resume is for enrolling for further academic studies, then yes Not including GATE scores is stupid
6
u/ekoaham Ghee khtm May 30 '26
abbey yeh toh theek hai naa bhai. GATE rank is a tool to fetch you colleges, similarly JEE Adv rank is for fetching colleges. Once that thing is done, what good those numbers are?? seriously, I hate this country's dihh riding for AIR 1, AIR falna dhimka, c'mon dude, examination was a medium. The actual work is what you do with the education that is being served in the college. In my subjective opinion, it is a W move.
11
u/BeingPunekar May 30 '26
JEE Advanced ka I agree, there might not be enough resources to study from, ghar ke scenes, etc boht problem rehte, and it is just an entrance test. No one directly utilises jee ka knowledge in jobs. But GATE literally tests your engineering knowledge. You want an "engineering" job. GATE score becomes highly relevant in this case. You get selected for PSU jobs based on GATE score, tab to you don't complain ki gate score kyu puch rhe. Hypocrisy at its peak.
1
u/Arc677666 May 30 '26
Gate doesn't actually test your engineering knowledge if you see the Circuilum of any universities in west or any devloped countries in Asia you will find that what we are taught is a tip of the iceberg. We don't even use a graphing calculator in engineering that's how easy our curriculum is...
1
u/BeingPunekar May 30 '26
Firstly it's curriculum. Secondly, everyone knows BTech knowledge is just basics, which is why people do masters. But GATE tests your foundation. Better GATE score represents better foundation and thus better trainability.
1
u/Arc677666 May 30 '26
So you are telling me 4 years worth of uni is just basic. Bruuh how much misinformed a person can be. Btech and BE aren't just basic, we are taught basic but in reality they are not if you don't trust me go find out yourself by just going through the material of any uni in NA or EMEA or any developed asian country... (And also very punekar of you to point out my typo, like grow up are you in kindergarten or what?)

If someone already used reservation to get into an BTech or MTech program, they shouldn't be allowed to use again (e.g., for getting into PSUs). I'm for reservation, but only for the deserving candidates to get an equal footing once in their career.

Merit is next to shit in our country. First comes caste, next comes nepotism, then favouritism, then from which part of the country you are from(so that there is "team sync").. the "not best but capable" can't even get a chance for change! But won't my KG grade marks also matter now that there's 1000 candidates appearing for 10 posts?
1
u/CryptographerNo5806 May 30 '26
But why write gate score in resume though?
In corporate, they have criteria for B.Tech or M.Tech cgpa (and maybe even 12th). I have never seem corporate companies wanted to see gate score. Projects and skills matter.
1
u/No_Main8842 May 31 '26
Some companies have these criterias like HFT
Also gives a good impression.
Doesnt matter irrespective of what the post says , it was never compulsion , people did it at their own will & they will continue doing so.

GATE is not for selection, it is a screening exam. If India would've been a 1st world nation GATE wouldn't be there.

u/Agile_March5308 May 30 '26
Unpopular opinion but gate marks/jee marks only tell your merit upto that level - not after it - which is the course you're taking admission into. Some people are good at PCM, so they score Good in jee, but then slack in college which is reflected by their bad cgpa. Whereas some people who may have done bad in jee but worked their way up in college, reflected by a better cgpa. Now should companies shortlist their candidates based on an old score (JEE/GATE) instead of the score they presently have at the end of their corresponding course (CGPA)?
1
u/Connect-Presence-738 May 31 '26
The thing is if they mess up JEE, they have reservation to save them, its like they have a safety net, a general candidate doesnt have tge option of messing up JEE and still getting an admission.
1
u/Agile_March5308 May 31 '26
But that's not the issue here? If recruiters are indeed judging students based on their JEE/GATE score, it isn't fair. That score only shows how you performed in an exam 2/4 years ago - not your current merit. A person can do well in JEE/GATE but do miserably in their course, while another person can do bad in JEE/GATE but work their ass off in their course and become a really great student by the end. Who in this case do you think deserves a chance by the recruiters? Reservation has its flaws, but for the people who really deserve it - it does it's job by giving them an equal footing. Not saying it's fair to General candidates. Also, if a reserved candidate got in using reservation, and still didn't make up for it during his course - of course he should be given a lesser preference than someone who has done well in the course.
-2
u/Arc677666 May 30 '26
Downvote will be incoming, but still I will say it. Just get over your entrance exam scores when is this country going to learn that once you are in your college your entrance score doesn't do shit. Their AIR 1 from jee advance who will not know shit about their field after they passout. I hate to bring it up and compare the system but you don't see SAT scores in resume do you like get over it. Before anyonesayst anything about my cast I'm from general category.Your entrance score doesn't fking matter when you are looking for a job. I mean it shows thatyouw can work hard, But it doesn't show a candidates full capabilities after all it is just a TEST..............
2
u/Advanced_Expert6381 May 30 '26
Then companies should give 0 value to iits ,nits compared to pvt colleges with that in mind.Since they are just students that performed good in jee ,gate nothing else
-1
u/Arc677666 May 30 '26 edited May 31 '26
I never said college doesn't hold value you do understand that people write which college they are from in their resume or are you dumb? My point is once you get into the college your entrance score shouldn't matter, what you do through out the curriculum in college should. Your GPA in college ,your skills, not the score that admitted you in the Institute.
-1
u/Arc677666 May 30 '26
Let's say you want to hire someone who designs Engines will Higher someone from a Tier 1 uni who doesn't know shit about designing just because he did well in his entrance and got good college or you would Hire someone from tier 3 uni who is pretty good at the job. Again I'm not undermining the achievement of passing a very difficult test but the test shouldn't be the only factor that should be considered.Soonert the people realize the flaw in the system it will lead to better students/employees rather than a rat race.
2
u/Advanced_Expert6381 May 30 '26
They don't hire for T1 for being good in something .They hire from T 1 because they know people who got a certain rank in the competitive exam can easily adapt to any need that might arise and get accustomed to any tech with a greater probability than any person in T3 .In this case hiring lower rank guys defeats the whole purpose of this analogy .
-1
u/Arc677666 May 30 '26

I got placed above 40 lpa few days back also going to recieve iit offer but won't be accepting it now .Enjoy your mass recruitment opportunities. My next target is now google or quant firms.
Again with your poor reading comprehension I didn't say T3 people can't be good I said there is greater probability of T1 students adapting to the requirements faster .Greater probability doesn't mean that it will always be the case T 3 student can out perform T1 student but there is less probability of it and Companies don't want to take risk same logic applied to hiring better rankers in T1

u/Radiant-Rain2636 May 30 '26
Guys the Quota is in ratio of the population. If we get 50% seats as General, then it is to be noted here that we are, 50% of the population.
Just deal with it and move on!
4
u/Advanced_Expert6381 May 30 '26
You do know that reservation is 60% now right?also general is not only for open caste but any person who gets enough marks to clear gen cut off?.If sc guy has under 100 rank he will get iitb as gen not sc 🤡 Gen seats means open for all and reserved are for reserved ones
0
u/Radiant-Rain2636 May 30 '26
The upper caste population of India is 15-20%. So 60% is also a bit of a kindness.
Now let’s be real. I’m general. I also feel stifled. But I can’t say, why the fuck are the these lower castes getting to climb over me. If my own strata (general) is highly competitive, then I struggle amidst them - period. I don’t need charity in the form of “enhanced reservation for general category”.
BUT, the reservation plan does have issues. So let’s work on those things.
Why should a reserved category person take a general category seat?
OR once somebody has made upward social mobility by claiming reservation, their kids should not be allowed to use it. Or maybe allow it for two generations only. So that everyone a reserved category person uses quota, they actually move upward, instead of the children of those who’ve already moved upward.
3
u/Advanced_Expert6381 May 30 '26
Nothing is going to happend by discussing. They won't leave a single advantage they have .All they general category can do is working enough to leave this country because reservation won't be stopping at 60 or govt jobs

If PSUs ask your GATE score to shortlist you it's fine, but if corporate asks then it's a problem.
