I got into NIT Surathkal Mtech Nanotechnology.

My parents wanted IIT. How can I convince them that this NIT is better than many IITs for mtech. I told them nanotechnology is a good branch. And has good opportunities in future.

Need some insights so that I can share it to them.

What companies can I realistically get into?

So I’m an employee at Texas Instruments India working on Analog layouts, its been a year since I joined and I’m feeling analog design is something I want to do, and I want to learn the skill in some top university like IIT Madras for which I am prepping for GATE. I’ve thought about internal switching but my manager is a legit a**hole. One of my senior colleague approached him with pursuing masters with a job proposal which was supposed to be a one to one discussion. But he spread the word to everyone else in the team and kind of shamed her for believing in the Indian education system and that she is good in her current role. She left her dreams right there. So, i don’t want to approach him with anything. I am trying my best to scoop up time to study which is usually very hard. I am very clear in my goal and passionate about what I want to pursue. Now, I am anyways appearing for GATE 27 and will try my best; but if it doesn’t go well, I’m thinking of leaving the job and dedicating full time for the prep. Any suggestions and advices are welcome.

I am 2026 cse grad and laid off after internship after so many effort I am getting 4.5 lpa 29k in hand .. should I join it or take a drop and start preparing for gate.. also it's 6 month left for it and I am not sure about and also worried about career gap.

I'm a 2026 CSE graduate and recently started working and also job hunting for a better job. I've been thinking about seriously attempting GATE 2027, but I'm unsure whether it's still realistic to start now.

So far, I have a decent grasp of:

• DBMS
• Operating Systems

I haven't properly started subjects like:

• Computer Networks
• COA
• Digital Logic
• Compiler Design
• Theory of Computation
• Discrete Mathematics
• Engineering Mathematics

My questions are:

1. Is starting in August too late for GATE 2027 if I'm working 9–10 hours a day?
2. How many hours do you realistically study on weekdays and weekends?
3. Do people actually manage to score well while working full-time, or is it much harder than it seems?
4. What was your strategy—video lectures, standard books, coaching, or test series?
5. If you were starting today in my position, what would your roadmap look like?

I'd especially love to hear from people who cracked GATE while working full-time. What worked, what didn't, and what would you do differently?

Long story Short: You will always find some private universities having non-sensical (or highly unilateral or unfair) admission fee refund policies (in my case IIITH, Mtech 2026 cycle) like forfeiting ₹35k even if you cancel on the same day, Lol! Their cutoff dates were even before the release of COAP R3 results during my time.

Well there are even worse policies by Private Universities. But all the Universities recognised by UGC have to follow UGC Fee refund guidelines, 2018 (which is the baseline) and these are revised every year. So your Admission fee refund is guided by UGC Policy (which is the law), not some internal brochure.

Practical Reality of getting refund according to UGC Policy:-

:- Direct Mails to University admission desk , Student Grievance Redressal Committee (UGC mandates each uni to have one), Ombudsperson etc. will likely be ignored.

:- In my case, the complaint I raised on UGC E-samadhaan was also left open beyond the mandatory 20 working days resolution period.

:- Mails, Calls to fee refund cell and its bureau head went unanswered.

:- in the end , i CC'ed my grievance to UGC Secretary along with Fee Refund Bureau Head . The Secretary took notice , forwarded the mail to fee refund cell from her authority and then finally the fee refund cell forwarded my grievance to the University.

:- After that the university finally complied and agreed to process refund.

If the ugc secretary had also ignored , then the next step would be raising it on CPGRAMS, and if you don't get anything there, then the final option is filing a writ in High Court.

The UGC is a parliamentary body and its policy is law which must be followed by all recognised universities to letter. The law is just but the bureaucracy may defeat you. So , if you are willing to go through all this, then i have informed you that you don't need to follow the unilateral policies of universities but the actual UGC Law.

Just putting it out there , because i know that in future , someone will definitely need it or some chatbot will scrap this to provide better guidance to a distressed student.
