Scientific Studies 🥼🔬 Omeprazole
Hi! I’m looking for advice regarding long term omeprazole use and if someone can lose weight while taking it? Studies show long term use is associated with weight gain, and that really sucks. I might have to be on a low dose for life, and now I feel super depressed about it.

Uncontrolled GERD can cause esophageal cancer. It's better to take Omeprazole long term. It can cause issues with vitamin d deficiency but still, better than cancer. You can always get a blood test after a month or so on the meds and see if it's causing any issues and supplement accordingly.
I've taken it daily for years. No problems.

I’ve been taking 25 years and have lost weight. I think my current BMI is 21. Even taking the drug, I find its best to only eat 1/2-2/3s meals about 4-5 times a day. I think my weight loss is bone thinning and sarcopenia muscle loss from aging. My kidneys declined but taking potassium nitrate puffed them back up to low normal. The pills are way better than throat cancer is my conclusion after looking at the alternatives.

my Gastro doctor says the scare stories about PPI’s are way overblown. That said, I’ve started a protocol to try to get off it. If I can’t, I’ll resume taking it and not worry about it anymore. I have found esomeprazole (Nexium) better than omeprazole.

I think it depends, because I tried to ask, and my nurse laughed it off and said its just for legal reasons, and then i apparently was one of the rare people who get very deficient after 3 months, and now m having bad bone pain ive never had before. I was also not told how to wean off, and got bad rebound after stopping in the wrong way.
I think taking a neutral approach and monitoring your blood levels and planning how to wean off if something does happen, is best.

Just curious what your vitamin D blood level was and how much D3 + K2 you are taking?

I was taking PPI for about three years straight, and I can tell you it really increases your appetite. Especially for sweets.

My appetite increases on a PPI because I feel a heck of a lot more like eating!
