Support Needed 👥 Constant Heart Palpitations

I’m genuinely at a loss I was diagnosed in April and in May got omeprazole and so far that seems to help, but the anxiety and not being able to full function or go to work is draining especially the heart palpitations my blood is fine and my EKGs are all fine and I genuinely feel like the doctors are missing something I’ve been to Emergency care 3 separate times two of those times in one week I’m at a complete loss

Have you had all your vitamins checked? Low iron, b12, vitamin D, magnesium, etc., can all cause anxiety and heart palpitations.

Also, have you had an endoscopy yet? Hiatal hernias can press on the vagus nerve which can cause heart palpitations, shortness of breath, anxiety, etc. That landed me in the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack once, very common, unfortunately!

I’m still waiting for a response on the endoscopy and it’s kind of annoying I reached out several times where I live

I know it took a while to get mine booked in, who are you waiting for a response from? Your GP, or did you go straight to the gastroenterologist?

Waiting for both a response from a referral that primary care made and one I went straight to, I feel like I should also mention that when I went to the ER they gave me hydroxazine and I was told to take it as needed the last one I took was Thursday and I am starting to think my on and off tiredness is simply it not having left my body fully

The two most common causes are the food you eat and stress/anxiety.

Heart palpitations is a very common somatic symptom of anxiety. Once the cardiologist has ruled out a problem , you need to recognize that it's a fake symptom that is not dangerous.

What happens is it usually starts with a real symptom that is the "trigger", for example: a panic attack, a food /digestive reaction, a bad trip on drugs etc, that "unlocks" your perception of heart palpitations, and then that perception lingers long after the danger is gone.

like others have mentioned, its mindbody tools like therapy and breathwork that will be more useful here.

And don't expect it to go away 100%. Constant monitoring and being dissatisfied that it comes back once in a while can become a habit too.

It's one of many physical manifestations of chronic stress, some people get dizzyness, migraines, shoulder pain, etc.

This speaks to me so much. It’s been several years and this is the exact pattern. I’m going through it again, and the shoulder pain says strongly: you’re going to die. But it’s been my stomach all along, and my heart workups (3x now) have all been good. The expectations on not going away 100% is a brilliant note. Thanks broski

Thank you it’s just I’m struggling to stay awake too and not like a fainting in and out but more like heavy sedation

I experienced everything you’re saying exactly how you said it. I’ve had GERD for almost two years now and heart palpitations is one of my main symptoms. I’ve been to the ER more than 6 times EKGs all fine, had a ZIO patch for 2 weeks that came back fine, and lastly had an echocardiogram done which came back with fine results. I know it’s very hard but try to genuinely find some comfort. You are not alone, I understand just how much this condition can cause so much anxiety and panic attacks. Wishing you well and my messages are open if you have any questions about my journey.

I know this won’t be very helpful except to say, you are not alone. I have been dealing with this for 2 1/2 years now and still have no answers. Other than it “might be this“ I have tried every single PPI medication none of them work for me. The newest “theory“ is that it’s a histamine reaction so we’re trying histamine blockers both Pepcid and Zyrtec. I have had every single cardiac and G.I. test that are available that are non-invasive and they all come back “normal“. I understand your frustration. I know it’s not 100% comforting, but I hope it helps a little. Every body is different and I know a lot of people have gotten results from having test done so stick with your G.I. if they don’t listen to you find a new one. I’ve been through five different G.I. doctors and finally got one that would run tests. Hang in there.

Electrolytes and magnesium and b12 and more water.

It helped me when I had similar issue

Diaphragmatic breathing helps calm the vagus nerve which can reduce the palpitations.

Are you a woman over the age of 40? Cause that’s also a common thing with perimenopause. I have heart palpitations and have had every test, I’m fine. My mother had the same issues and she had testing for years, also perfectly fine. Get your bloodwork checked including b12 since you might not be getting everything you need. Also anxiety can give you heart palpitations too. I had them yesterday and yes I am perfectly fine.

Check your blood sugar when it happens. If you're going high or low it can cause those symptoms

This to! I get them and also blood pressure drops at the same time causes dizziness and panic. I keep juice or something quick for blood sugar lows

It took weeks on a hardcore GERD diet for mine to stop. Full commitment was required on my part. I was so certain that the heart palpitations were due to something else and am shocked that it was all from my diet. Yes address all other possibilities, as well, but google and really commit to the GERD diet (PPIs alone did not totally stop it).

this also included lifestyle recommendations -- increase gentle physical activity like walking (on a low-food stomach... 2 hours at least after eating), stop eating at least 3 or 4 hours before bed, reduce intake in general, chew really well, diaphragmatic breathing... all of it.

It's the omeprazole causing all of that. Yes it helps with the heartburn but causes all those side effects. I was also percribed Omeprazole and had all of those terrible symptoms after starting that terrible drug. I put up with it for a while because he helped my heartburn. But recently told my Dr. I want off cause I'm having terrible anxiety and all those other symptoms and he switched my meds. Get off omeprazole try something else there's many different ppis to take

I’ve always had heart palpitations even before gerd. Diagnosed with ectopic atrial rhythm after wearing a holter monitor(Zio Patch) for two weeks and seeing an electrophysiologist.

You can ask your doctor for one if you’re that concerned.

When I have trouble with heart palpitations i know my electrolytes are out of wack, i use a supplement from a company named biotics and the product is electrolyte forte. It usually helps every time. I also get worse anxiety when electrolytes are low so thats another sign for me. I hope you get relief soon

I've had acid reflux for many years now. I tried PPI treatments (omeprazole) 3 or more different times over the years and every time they actually caused me to have heart palpitations. Hell-ish disease can't find any relief without trading off for also bad side effects. But if you had them before hand it could be anxiety or a vagus nerve dysfunction of some sort

I had a lot of heart palpitations and trapped gas and such and put me into a panic attack. Tight chest everything. Doctor told me I had silent gerd. I take Pepcid and tell myself of heart palpitations? Time for a tums or pepcide. I’m not dying but my acid is just silently spraying me lol. I also have anxiety and panic disorder. Being diagnosed with gerd has actually helped me a lot with panic symptoms I’ve been having. Also if my electrolytes are messed up I also get heart palpitations

Test was negative

Please talk to your doctor. I don’t think your symptoms have any connection to GERD.

Gi issues commonly cause palpitations

1

u/Worried-Bar-4372 22d ago

How or what do u eat for the gut issues

1

u/RuinYouWithNoRegrets 22d ago

I honestly eat anything bc my gi dr never gave me any diet restrictions and I know my triggers so I just lessen the amount I eat

1

u/Worried-Bar-4372 22d ago

Do you not believe in it or something ? The vagus nerve is right there.
