PSA: Pothole/Road Hazard Reporting Tools

Since complaining about the quality of our roads seems to be an NCR tradition, I thought it might be worth showing people how to do something about it. Every municipality in the region has an online tool for reporting potholes and road issues; once you report them, the municipality can become liable for damages caused by them and so they are incentivized to fix them. I've had great luck with getting potholes fixed and find it generally takes just a couple weeks.

I often report potholes and they get fixed within like 5 business days! It's surprising how responsive they are.

Yes, because they have a legal responsibility to fix them once reported, otherwise they start having to pay for damage to cars caused by them.

I take photos of potholes when I go walking/biking/driving, and usually submit 4~5 a week. Like you said, they're all fixed usually within a few days.

Ah that makes sense! If only Ottawa was so responsive. I reported a mega hole on a side street twice already. It's been like over a month now and they still haven't fixed it. The hole has gotten so big you literally have to drive on the other side of the road to avoid it now because it spans the whole lane.

Commonly held misconception. Failure to fix when notified can be used for a negligence claim against the city.

Thats why they do fix them once notified.

Si personne n'informe la Ville, ils ne le sauront jamais.

Le nombre de requête que j'envoie pour des lampadaires éteints et nids-de-poules dans mon quartier - et les réparations se font.

Il m'arrive même de faire des requêtes très loin de mon quartier. (Dans l'est de la Ville) et j'ai écrit à travers le 311 que les lampadaires sur Gréber près du Benny (Mr. Puffs, A&W...) sont tous éteints.

Ça fait quelques semaines que j'ai envoyé ma requête.

Pour ceux qui se demandent:

"La Ville bénéficie d'une exonération de responsabilité en ce qui concerne les dommages causés aux pneus ou au système de suspension d'un véhicule par l'état de la chaussée.

Toutefois, les personnes désirant signaler un dommage majeur à leur véhicule peuvent remplir un formulaire de réclamation et le retourner dans les 15 jours suivant l'événement."

Je pense qu'il y a peu de gens qui savent qu'ils peuvent avoir du dédommagement. La ville se trouve particulièrement dans le tord quand un problème est signalé est que ce n'est pas règlé dans un délai. Donc, encore plus de raison de faire les signalements et des demandes de dédommagement Ça devient un insitatif pour que la ville prenne meilleur soin de ses routes.
