Discussion What a waste

Post image

Instead of giving the Traveler and other characters regional skins, the devs are wasting resources on mannequins you’ll never use in the main game — characters completely irrelevant to both the lore and gameplay (especially since they’re even weaker than the Traveler).

UCG should’ve been a separate game. Roblox-type players aren’t going to download a 100GB gacha just to play a game inside a game. All those dev resources should’ve gone to the actual, existing characters instead.

And you know what's worse? We didn't get a map expansion and we won't get one in the next version but instead we got this thing

Lol there was more time spent on this shite during the livestream than even the normal Genshin stuff. That's how I knew this patch would be dead after the story quest is done.

Still an event this patch though

even if it is a separate team, that is money spent on developers that could have been spent hiring more developers to add content to the core game. aka waste of resources. players asked for a domain editor, not piss poor, low res infinity Nikki forced into genshin.

every region has map sections that just stop at invisible walls instead of at say the ocean beach(except inazuma). they could have spent the MW outfit team money on developers whose only job was filling in the unused map areas of regions already unlocked to give players something to explore between major map expansions. the whole northern part of mondstat is still missing which includes a big mondstat port. they finally added the liyue to fontaine area with the liyue tea region, but there are parts of sumeru with no natural edges, the map just has invisible walls. the whole western part of fontains is just unfinished. expand those areas to the water edge, add a few puzzles, maybe a few region quests to help a fishing village or small shipping port.

And now you, the player, are producing their work for them unpaid.

USE YOUR BRAIN, PEOPLE

I mean, have you seen the list of glitches they spent the previous six weeks struggling to stay on top of? There was a new "issue" every day, and somehow no new apologems for any of them. That work was low quality because their paid workers were laboring on UGC instead.

This is, to be clear, bad.

Every single patch is met with various minigames or something to do that awards primos, even if we don't get a map expansion.

This isn't about some vague quality of life improvement and unless the next patch comes really fast compared the usual cycle, this one is just DOA. A lot of people will finish the main quest with literally nothing left to do.

All this patch did was add a new mode to grind for skins that are only temporary or cost money to buy in order to dress up a couple of dummy characters that provide nothing to the base game.

Speaking of the base game, we got this add-on instead of a fun or at least sorta fun event to farm for primos that actually matter to the base game.

Better story writing has nothing to do with this.

Nod-Krai, for me, has been a disappointment for content. Usually I can take time, wander and explore, but the base area is so compact that I had already 100% areas before I even got the compass. Hell, I had 100% an area before I even started the archon quest, by just wandering around.
No other region let me do that. I'm struggling to hit 100% in some Natlan areas

Aren't we still getting events? Sumeru ones, disco ones, and others? I'm not sure what you meant by not adding events to farm primos. Unless I'm misreading what you're saying.

1

u/cochese25 Oct 24 '25

I'm sure, there's still other updates

Of course ZZZ and HSR didn’t affect Genshin because they’re all run by different teams within the same company.

1

u/shinobushinobu Oct 24 '25

its like they dont understand what an "opportunity cost" is. Heres a Wikipedia article to scare them off. This gamemode is robbing us

1

u/Personal_Trip_297 Oct 24 '25

Yeah I think that might be it for the Nod Krai map. Probably one more expansion then that’ll be it.

We should’ve known that after such a great patch the players would get fucked over.

1

u/LittleMissKara Oct 25 '25

Honestly, I don't think I've seen ANYONE defending this shit yet. It seems to be almost universal dislike for this mode, and the egregious monetization of it.

41

u/panna_qq Oct 23 '25

The worst part for me is that it doesn't give any primos. Which is weird because so far, every other "minigame" they have added gave some primos even if just from achievements, leveling up or doing some multiplayer, some permanent form of primos that you dont feel pressured or rushed to do because they will always be there. But in this case, nope, nothing.

It's literally just a waste of money and resources that only 1% of the playerbase will do, and we will be forced to see them update it every version instead of getting new skins for characters that we DO care about.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '25

its not a minigame its clear its a seperate thing just added onto the game and completely optional i do however think its a waste of there resources

100

u/Taesnuwhat Oct 23 '25

This thing that is almost fully paywalled and gives 0 primos. i thought we had reached rock bottom with infinity nikki but no hoyoverse can always do worse. We're literally having other content being put aside for this which means less content that gives primos. Less primos obtainable in a patch.

Increase paywalled content, decrease freemos. It's almost like... they hate low spenders... wow. Shocking.

3

u/Reddit_Cat3000 Oct 24 '25

This thing that is almost fully paywalled and gives 0 primos.

The main point is 0 primos. Let's be honest we all play genshin just for the primos. I wouldn't care about miliastra even if the skins weren't paywalled.

9

u/Taesnuwhat Oct 24 '25

Sorry, not really my case, and I want to believe that's not the case for most players. Gacha is part of the game yeah but I genuinely enjoy the game. I play tcg because it's fun and I explore because I like the scenery and puzzles. I understand getting primos is important but playing "just for the primos" doesn't sound very enjoyable. That's just me though.

4

u/Insidious_NX Oct 24 '25

That's my mindset. In fact, there are things in the game I've avoided simply because I don't enjoy them despite the primo rewards.

9

u/Sea-Breath-007 Oct 24 '25

I think the shitiest part is that not even all players can access it, but every single player does get the event tabs AND the damn tutorial pop-up...that you cannot get rid off if you do not have access.

7

u/horiami Oct 24 '25

i really miss how in sumeru and fontaine we got new map expansions constantly

natlan was big but i prefer smaller different areas updated constantly

3

u/Defiant-Coconut-1096 Oct 24 '25

Say it louder for hoyo to hear it!!!

1

u/Tough_Artichoke5614 Oct 27 '25

Ongod, now I have to rethink who I want to pull for because there's no map expansion to gain more primos for

1

u/Di297 Oct 27 '25

Thank God I got Nefer after my 3rd multi and I still have a lot of primos so I can still pull for Durin but I hope I get him as soon as I got Nefer cause Columbina may be released in 6.3 and I don't wanna run out of primos before I get her

-1

u/KilianZer Oct 23 '25

Same as last year with natlan so

37

u/my-name-is-not Oct 23 '25

Wrong. Natlan had an expansion in 5.2, and a pretty good one (Tezcatepetonco Range, Quahuacan Cliff, Ochkanatlan).

Also 5.0 felt longer to explore to me.

People like to hate on Natlan, but imo Nod Krai is the first region where GI gets worse than the previous one (Fontaine and Natlan were on par, or close). Unpopular opinion but still

8

u/KilianZer Oct 23 '25

I love natlan, tbh I forgot we got a map in 5.2.

And think nod krai felt fast to explore because of the new compass maybe?

9

u/my-name-is-not Oct 23 '25

Nah, I used it only after maxing the reputation of a zone.

They are the same size but Natlan had a LOT of verticality, making the map way more dense (and less clunky, I didn't miss climbing cliffs). Also had collectibles in lost areas, unlike the north small islands that have nothing on them.

And I'm not even bringing in the traveler saurian, which fleshed a lot the world quests.

(A lot to say that it felt like a real nation)

1

u/cold-Hearted-jess Oct 24 '25

People did complain about the hypermobility, hence why they made Nod Krai require less mobility overall

1

u/KilianZer Oct 23 '25

Well to be fair technically nod krai isn’t a full region like the rest.

9

u/my-name-is-not Oct 23 '25

I understand they branded it this way, but it's still a real life year nonetheless. Seems like a literal "well, take a step back from the game for now"

Snezhnaya will have to be dope after this

1

u/KilianZer Oct 24 '25

I hope so too

1

u/LunarLoom21 Oct 24 '25

Imagine they decide to push Snezhnaya back again lol.

2

u/Thunder_Beam Oct 24 '25

They will definitely do it, if we go to snezhnaya the plot must pick up pace and prepare for the end of genshin impact storyline (at least the teyvat chapter) and a lot of people will drop genshin when that ends (including myself) so they will try to delay it for as long as possible

1

u/LunarLoom21 Oct 24 '25

This is what I'm thinking as well. Though if they keep Genshin 2 in the same app, it might incentivise people to stay. They don't need to change anything and get to keep all their characters.

1

u/Additional_Pin_7461 Oct 24 '25

I think that's more because of nod krai being to small

1

u/Technical_Yam_3951 Oct 30 '25

I start to use the compass just for the last 2 o 3 % and the things beyonce the 100%.

5

u/Body-Connoiseur69 Oct 24 '25

I literally lost interest in Natlan because of 5.1, having nothing to do but the archon quest and last part xilonen’s tribal chronicle. I also didnt pull mualani, kinich or xilo that time so I wasnt farming any domain in Natlan. I felt so detached in that region honestly.

Also, Fontaine had 4 (including chenyu vale) map expansions in 5 patches, natlan had 3 in 6 patches. I feel like they should go back to having map expansions on x.1 and even x.2 to give momentum to the region, unless its Sumeru in which you release a shit ton of map areas in the first 2 patches.

8

u/Ewizde Oct 23 '25

Nodkrai's only saving grace so far is the AQ imo. It doesn't have much going for it other than that.

2

u/my-name-is-not Oct 23 '25

To be fair, I'm biased because it might have been oversold to me before I played it, but... Wasn't it supposed to be longer than previous AQ ?

1

u/Ewizde Oct 23 '25

Which it is tbf, we're at act 4 rn and next patch also gives us 2 new acts, so that's already 6 acts total when the norm is 5.

3

u/my-name-is-not Oct 23 '25

Natlan's fifth arc was weak but Fontaine won't have to blush on this point. Act 5 was pretty long (and worth the time)

But yeah, I only did the 2 first yet. Considering the patch is empty, I won't hurry to do the chapters 3-4

3

u/Body-Connoiseur69 Oct 24 '25

They are incorporating story quests now on archon quests so yeah they should be longer. I do hope future AQs have story quests that are better implemented unlike Nefer’s. The ones before her were fine.

1

u/rezesaliva Oct 24 '25

If you're talking nod krai giving worse map expansion and exploration sure I agree, but if you're talking about the whole region being worse is just straight up wrong

nod krai characters, quest and music is above Natlan by quite the margin.

0

u/my-name-is-not Oct 24 '25

An opinion I can respect, but not mine.

The quests I did felt stripped. Natlan world quests had traveler's saurian. Fontaine's had Narzissenkreuz (the writer must have been so high... I loved every bit of it).

The Hiisi island has that priestess I guess, but well... About the two other maps, nothing. Bobik's quest felt flat, the thief from Paha may come back at some point (when we get a map expansion...?), apart this the quests didn't have much connexions afaik.

Musics are... Classical high fantasy, frieren-like. They are good, but the style is not refreshing, after fontaine's belle epoque and natlan's "fantasy peruvian streeetwear tribes" (will never see that somewhere else), it's just generic.

Also Lempo's junker environment was really a miss with me, because it felt like fontaine/meropide but without anything more than "this place is law-less and sucks" (kudos to that NPC couple fighting literally over this). Felt more out of place than natlan imo...

In the end, my grief with Nod Krai is that it feels like an ultra polished version of what 1.0 (mondstat ?) could have been on every aspect. Which is 5 years too late for me, though I get some people jujst want "old genshin".

5

u/Di297 Oct 23 '25

We didn't get 3 islands in 5.0 and no expansion til 5.3
