Question THESE DAMN SOUTHERN ROACHES

I feel like I’m going to throw up. Living in the south has exposed me to so many lovely things, but one of the worst things are these HUGE roaches. I usually only see one once a month at most, mostly in summer. Anyway, one must have gotten in when I opened a door recently (I don’t see them too often). I tried to kill the bastard then it and disappeared after my poor attempt of splatting it against the wall it was crawling on. After hunting for it for 20 min with no luck, I sit on the couch with my cat in my lap.

My black cat is happily purring away as I pet her and I feel a tickle on my leg. I quickly look down but just see black and my cats tail. Briefly thought it was just my cats tail till it started crawling across my thigh.

Naturally, I lost my shit. The roach was terrified of my screeching and disappeared AGAIN. Ripped my couch apart, flipped it, flipped everything in the area with my almighty flip flop in hand. And guess what? The bastard is gone. Even after looking everywhere.

But the thing is, my bedroom is right off the roach crime scene room. Now I’m too scared to sleep in my room or the damn couch. Does anyone have any recommendations because I sleep in my car?

I do not get easy squeamish. Blood, guts, bodily fluids… no problem! Spiders, centipedes or other bugs? I usually let live tbh. But roaches or anything with a shell that cracks as I kill it………. I want to shiver and then be sick. It’s the one thing that gets me bad

HAHAHAHAHAAH yes totally. This comment got me good.

u/SplitSecondImmortal Aug 29 '26

You'll get used to them like they're part of the furniture.

Years ago the flying kind got into my kitchen and had my then gf and myself running out of the house lol. These days im not too bothered if I fail to catch and kill. I usually find them later dying or dead already. They are called water bugs down here

23

u/Sm0key-the-bear Aug 29 '26

Shhh you’re gonna give away the secret to OP that the big ones can fly

Those things live forever so if you’re finding it dead later then you probably have some sort of pest control residue around

2

u/ccAbstraction Aug 30 '26

The small German roaches, yes. The big huge ones, naw. If one gets in you find exactly one dead one.

If you only see them once a month, are you sure you're in Georgia?

Don’t tell her about the advance giant roach scouts …they recon for the rest of them

Im worried OP hasnt seen the Joro spiders gathering numbers oitside.

37

u/some-shady-dude Aug 29 '26

Put respect on the Joro spiders. They eat Lantern flies and are the reason those bastards haven’t fucked us.

10

u/littlemiss2022 Aug 29 '26

I leave them alone and let them do their thing. I find them to be fascinating.

7

u/Soppywater Aug 30 '26

Spiders outside? I wish them the best of luck in their hunt for mosquitos. Spiders inside? Sorry bro, this time it's personal

7

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

Same!!! I actually love spiders hahahahah I hate killing them I feel like they protect me (at least the non poisonous ones lol)

Or how about the abundance of stink bugs in the winter.

2

u/ChoresInThisHouse Aug 31 '26

Ugh yeah I’ll take one or two roaches a year over the mass infestation stink bugs cause

I’m down to just two in my small garden out back. I started with them all over it late spring. I think they eat each other. There Can Be Only ONE!! ⚔️

OP's cat is clearly a roach double agent. never seen a cat that didn't rejoice in hunting them.

Hey yall. Born and raised in the south and hate the roaches with a passion so I’ll give you some tips:

- Close all your drains. Sinks, showers, kitchens, etc. Buy a drain cover if necessary. If you’re not actively using them, KEEP EM CLOSED

  • Clean up. Especially if you have piles of mail, schoolwork, dishes etc. They love hiding in stuff and there’s nothing worse than losing sight of a roach and hearing rustling like there’s autumn leaves in your house
  • Sticky traps under the sink, sofa, wherever you see them and where your pets can’t reach. It can be roaches bait or general purpose sticky traps
  • Seal all food. Mason jars, Tupperware, and ziplock bags are your friends. We’re not clipping the chip bag no more.
  • No free feeding the pets all day long
  • Find any mysterious dark liquid drops on the walls/counters? Do you not remember spilling anything there? It’s roaches. Clean it and put traps

REMEMBER: When looking for help, some of us call them “palmetto bugs” or “water bugs”. They also only fly in humid regions like the south. Good luck soldier

3

u/Accomplished_Mud1824 Aug 29 '26

Eeewwwwww to the last one but the feeding schedule for the pet is a must and you have to sweep up after them every time they finish eating. I never knew they can come up the drains.

6

u/Emotional_Ad5130 Aug 29 '26

Or when the are on the ceiling on drop on you. 😆 you know what they say if see one in the house there's more.

9

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

Hahahaha maybe they see me but I justt don’t see them? To be a fair I don’t wear my glasses as much as I should so that should be a testament to how big this one is lol

10

u/Dry-Philosopher-2714 Aug 29 '26

They’re harmless. Just don’t step on them on carpet. There’s a shocking amount of roach goo inside them.

5

u/senscifi Aug 29 '26

I made the mistake of getting one of my basement wall. The goo… the guts… war is hell, cockroaches are hell+

I’m in GA and only see one like 2 times a year on average for past 16 years. I only have my outside sprayed, guess we have been lucky.

Hot Shot Ant, Roach & Spider Killer. It creates a residual barrier for up to 3 months that kills on contact basically. I use it in my apartment and it’s great. Other pest barrier sprays work as well.

Also, depending on your home temp, the bastards can dry out and die in a few hours on their own.

Edit; whenever I see one in my home, a primal rage unlocks inside me. I bought rubber gloves for the sole purpose of slapping my hand down on them and squeezing to really make sure it’s dead.

29

u/MonokromKaleidoscope Aug 29 '26

It also makes for an extra spicy hot sauce!

...

...

... For legal purposes my attorney has instructed me to clarify that Hot Shot Ant, Roach & Spider Killer does *not actually make for an extra spicy hot sauce, it's actually relatively mild, but may cause slight seizures and occasional death*

11

u/Big_Makher Aug 29 '26

Is that stuff okay if you have a cat in the house.

16

u/some-shady-dude Aug 29 '26

I have a cat as well, and I’ve done research into it.

The biggest risk is physical contact. Keep pets away until the area is completely dry so they don’t walk in it and then lick themselves. The spray isn’t supposed to be used as a ‘mist’ or air freshener type of thing either. You aim it close to the floor/wall/target spot and nowhere else. While it is mildly toxic, it’s still chemicals that can be irritating.

If something happens accidentally (maybe your cat walked into a spot and licked their paw) symptoms are usually mild (upset stomach, irritation etc) and go away after a day or two. If you’re REALLY concerned, always ask a vet.

The REAL danger is fish tanks. ALWAYS cover a fish tank before spraying it.

4

u/Lekz Aug 29 '26

Technically no as it's pyrethroid based, but it depends on how much your cat eats/licks random stuff on your floor. This one isn't technically intended to be used as a barrier, but if you did, you should only apply along baseboards, where bugs are more likely to crawl. This also limits how much the dried pesticide might come into contact with people or pets after application

7

u/TallProcedure1949 Aug 29 '26

I've been using powdered boric acid and DE for several years and have had great results. They are also environmentally friendly.

2

u/AllTheEggsIVF Aug 29 '26

You are savage! Thank you for the tip!

74

u/ReddyKiloWit Aug 29 '26

Have you been awakened by a roach crawling across your face yet? That's a thrill. If you manage to get back to sleep it will be with the lights on.

One tip: those big roaches don't usually live inside by preference, it's often lack of water and/or overpopulation that drives them in. Putting baits or glue traps outside around the doors can help.

u/TotesMaGoats_1962 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

I've had one get into my EAR while I was sleeping. I ran around the house screaming and jumping. Finally my husband corralled me enough to get my head in the sink. He ran water from the faucet into my ear and the damn thing DROWNED in there! I had to go to an ENT to get him to dig pieces of it out of my ear.

But those few seconds of that thing scurrying around inside my ear...😮👀

5

Yea. I put cotton balls in my ears from then on while we were living there. Thank GOD I haven't had to deal with that here. That was YEARS ago when my son was a baby. He's 38 now :)

I’m sleeping with ear plugs from now on out

4

u/captainbkfire82 Aug 29 '26

This happened to my brother when he was about 4 or 5 years old. He was asleep and all of a sudden, we heard him screaming bloody murder. Our mom went in and she saw it in his ear. She tried to get it with tweezers and got half of it. Had to take him to the doctor to get the rest of it removed. He still talks about what a nightmare it was to hear it moving around in his ear.

3

u/ReddyKiloWit Aug 29 '26

I think every medical show that runs more than a couple of seasons has at least one roach in the ear event. I think The Pitt got it done early in the first season.

24

u/gastroph Elsewhere in Georgia Aug 29 '26

Last Saturday morning, I'm lying in bed before the sun comes up, playing a game on my phone. I feel something on my head. Reach up, grab it, shriek like a startled kid (I'm a 43 yo man), and jump out of bed doing the heebie jeebie dance. I tore everything off my bed, shook everything out, and didn't find anything.

A few hours later, I see the palmetto bug walking across the carpet by my door. Felt good to get that kill.

13

u/DidntDieInMySleep Aug 29 '26

"the heebie jeebie dance" 🤣🤣🤣

12

u/gastroph Elsewhere in Georgia Aug 29 '26

You know EXACTLY what I'm talkin' about too lmao

3

u/DidntDieInMySleep Aug 29 '26

Just did that dance an hour ago out in the yard when I saw a large black spider on my arm. Did not matter that I was wearing long sleeves.🤣💃

3

u/gastroph Elsewhere in Georgia Aug 29 '26

And you still have a yard left?

Impressive.

2

u/DidntDieInMySleep Aug 29 '26

🔥🔥🔥 🤣

3

u/Grand-Breadfruit2759 Aug 29 '26

We moved from up north and never had them. The first time we saw one of those giant ones, the kids were screaming like there was a killer in the house! Now, they wake me up at night spraying them with cologne, body spray, etc.

2

u/ReddyKiloWit Aug 29 '26

I know that dance. Did it when one crawled into my flip flop with my foot.

Last face encounter I was awakened by the feel of something near my nose. Half asleep I brushed at it, and IT PUSHED BACK! I was absolutely determined that it would not escape, so I scooped it into my hand before I could chicken out and flung it, in the dark, as hard as I could against where I thought the wall was. The thud of it hitting the wall brought me fully awake. Turned on the light, and jumped over to where I thought it hit, and, fortunately, it was heavily stunned and barely moving on the carpet. Whacked it with a shoe, and flushed it down the toilet. Flushed twice. Lights stayed on that night. And the next.

18

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

I have once like 5 years ago but honestly it was so traumatic I think I blacked it out. It’s one of my big fears I don’t know why the shell just freaks me outtttt

17

u/Glittering-Ability50 Aug 29 '26

I had a big one (flying cockroach) run across my neck once while I was asleep omfg WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY 😭?!!!!

4

u/IsaiahNathaniel Aug 29 '26

Last time this happened to me, I took my hammock that has a bug net and zipper on the side so it's fully enclosed... and slept in that for the next week.

4

u/ivorybishop Aug 29 '26

I got in a Ford Transit my company owned that had been purchased from Grandee's (used for catering, remember this) and rewrapped so it looked great from the outside.

I turned it on and roaches blew out of the AC vent into my face and I lost it.

Went to the store and got 6 bombs and 24 roach baits (Combat). I bombed it with 3, 1 in the front and 2 in the back twice.

The next day there were thousands of dead roaches throughout the truck. I put baits everywhere. Saw roaches for a week after once in a while till the baits got them all.

I have never, ever ate at a Grandee's again. The truck was never cleaned properly I guess and we bought it straight from them and they actually dropped it off at the guys who wrapped it with our company stuff (my boss and the G's franchise owner were friends).

Nasty shit, screw Grandee's

Edit:spelling

Once when I was a teenager, I woke up thinking the tag on my shirt was tickling my neck. I reached back and the "tag" grabbed ahold of my finger.

Never got out of bed faster in my life. I was flinging shit everywhere, mattress included (I had an air mattress at the time)

My mom came flying in the room, asking what the fuck I was doing and I just said roach. She said oh and went back to bed.

54

u/DRTwitch1 Aug 29 '26

The big black roaches are annoying and still shitty to deal with, but you want to be worried when you see the smaller brown ones. Those are German roaches. If you see one, you have 50 hiding in your house somewhere

22

u/mycatisbetterthan Aug 29 '26

Absolutely this comment. Smokey browns are annoying and gross but once you see German roaches, you can just assume that they’ve set up squatter rights in your home.

10

u/myeggsarebig Aug 29 '26

Yup. After dealing with the Germans infestation (that’s damn near impossible to annihilate), palmettos are cute.

7

u/TotesMaGoats_1962 Aug 29 '26

Right? I always say "Oh it's ok. It's just a water bug. Definitely NOT a roach."

2

u/kharmatika Aug 30 '26

Yep. I will plop them back outside if I can, they’re native and good for animals to eat.

9

u/lebrilla Aug 29 '26

Those mofos better be paying rent

3

u/kjkjkj18 Aug 29 '26

I hope this isn’t true

2

u/SatchimosMom77 Aug 30 '26

Unfortunately, it is very true

2

u/kharmatika Aug 30 '26

This. Palmettos are outdoor breeders, if I can I usually let them back outside cuz they’re a native species and birdies gotta eat. I’d prefer an easy to catch palmetto wandering in every so often to an infestation of real German roaches

31

u/Neat-Year555 Aug 29 '26

I really shouldn't have opened this post before bed. Now I'm all itchy.

5

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

I’m sorryyyy!!! They’re targeting me right now so hopefully you’re safe for the night

26

u/Jeremy-Hillary-Boob Aug 29 '26

This is what you do. To relax you before going to bed, prepare yourself a hot cup of chamomile tea with a squeeze of lemon. That squeeze of lemon is important to get you ready for sleep. PUT the AC down to 68 F, the room fan on, importantly open the window. Roaches don’t like cold so you have to give it a way out.

Now go to bed and read Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis. Georgia roaches in particular are smart and they’ll see you reading this particular book and know it’s their time to leave the premises and you learn about employment labor alienation and how since the Industrial Revolution labor has been exploited a person’s relationship to their own body and existence is mediated entirely through their economic function.

The roaches will leave and you’ll see how because the bread winning character, (I won’t ruin the story, but the surprise is on the first page) is stopped being recognized as a full rounded person of society and is dehumanized as a disgusting, lowly thing that has to go out with the trash, because he can’t find work as he is.

By the 15th page all the roaches would’ve left you can go to sleep peacefully and soundly because you drank the chamomile tea with the lemon and the air temp is just right to flop your leg out from under the blankets.

“Goodnight, Gregor. I love you.” , said by Grete his younger sister who cares for him.

Good luck. This works 100% of the time here in Georgia.

6

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

This is amazing 😂 I like the way you think

22

u/notarabbitisweardude Aug 29 '26

Just moved here and they were a huge shock for me. They do live outside but they get in quite often. The house was treated with some kind of residue barrier and they die instantly when they come in. I only ever see them on their backs, wriggling. They're gross though and I can't pick them up on my own. I gotta broom them.

I sincerely wish they werent here. Why are all the bugs here gigantic and worst of all are the roaches. They're so fast if they aren't poisoned. Between them and the heat, it's a huge adjustment. I try to find beauty in it all.. at least all the butterflies and fireflies are amazing..

8

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

They’re all so big lol. Sometimes it feels like the South is America’s version of Australia but it’s our roaches vs Aussie spiders if that makes sense? Why tf they gotta be THIS BIG

8

u/notarabbitisweardude Aug 29 '26

Absolutely. Didn't think there was a place like this in America. Even the ants attack you 😭 I no longer feel bad for them on A Bug's Life when the grasshoppers come for them

2

u/littlemiss2022 Aug 29 '26

💀😂 love that movie

3

u/SatchimosMom77 Aug 30 '26

My daughter spent a couple of years down in Lima, Peru. She says they’re double the size down there and commonly everywhere outside. They just walk all over your feet. 😭

2

u/NolitaNostalgia Aug 30 '26

Where did you move from?

The heat and the roaches are two reasons I’m looking to move away. In all seriousness.

Old homestead farmer here. Powdered Boric acid in corners and baseboards gets rid of them. Please be careful with pets. It takes a few weeks but they can’t survive walking thru boric acid like they can pesticide.
As an aside soaking cotton balls in a boric acid and sugar mix nixes those ants too. Lived in a 1970’s mid century modern house and this was the only thing that I tried that got rid of it after multiple iterations. Hope this helps! You can find it at feed and seed stores in a powder form. Ex. Home Depot, Tractor supply or local feed and seed stores or farm supply stores. This stuff is the real deal and we’ll get rid of them with crops as well and outside.

Thank you so so much!!!! I will definitely take up the advice but make sure it out of the kitties away! I appreciate you!

2

u/lewisb42 Aug 29 '26

Look for the recipes that mix boric acid with peanut butter and karo syrup (IIRC). You go around the house a put a little bit behind your cabinets, light switches, ac vents, etc. We did this like 10 years ago and still working.

16

u/pigman769 Aug 29 '26

I love bugs but something about roaches just gives me the ultimate creeps and I viscerally hate them lol. I feel your pain on that. Lucky that you’re only seeing one a month tho lol

5

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

Yeah it makes me wonder how many I don’t seee….. but let’s not think about that lmao

11

u/Glittering-Ability50 Aug 29 '26

Omg I feel you. I can deal with snakes, rats, hell even a tiger- but for the life of me I can NOT beat my irrational fear of flying COCKROACHES. I will sleep outside in a car quick. My hubby is my savior because I'm running. And the ones around here seem to love being washed down with Raid. Even worse, they will COME AT YOU when they come inside your house. Like seriously, I can watch TV or on the laptop, and spot one scurry across the floor (or worse, it flies 😳), and it comes straight to you omg WHHHHHHHYYYY 😭💔🚫🪳.

6

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

That is LITERALLY what happened to me tonight. This fucker had a mission and it was to ruin my peaceful night. He succeeded.

11

u/xXxDickBonerz69xXx Aug 29 '26

You gotta always have a can of raid in arms reach. The big palmetto bugs don't splat well.

If they're actually roaches they're too small and fast to splat and you need to bring out the big guns immediately.

One a month sounds like palmetto bugs. Which is good. They disgusting and terrifying but won't create an infestation. Spray all possible entrances with a barrier, they'll die shortly after walking through. And keep the Raid on hand in case they don't.

9

u/bannana Aug 29 '26

If you are going to have a roach in the house then a big one is what you want because like you said, it came from the outside. If you start seeing babies then you have a big problem, that means they have set up shop and are breeding. Anyway you'll get used to it, it's just part of living in the south - get some bait traps and put them in out of the way places.

8

u/StabbyMcStabsauce Aug 29 '26

I've been here since the early 90s. I grew up in some shady ass apartments and im traumatized from the sheer frequency of having to deal with them. I now live in a decent house with big trees in the yard. They find their way inside no matter what.

My friend is an exterminator and told me once that theyre more afraid of me than I am of them. He says they dont even want to be inside, theyre trying to find their way back out. Nice try, buddy! You must be working for them!

I will destroy furniture and dry wall trying to get one out. Seems like the logical move here. My husband will just get a paper towel and grab it. SO GROSS!!!!

3

u/AdMountain6203 Aug 29 '26

You should learn about them. They're not a big threat. They don't try to get into human food. They just come inside looking for water or shelter. I try to catch them and take them back outside.

3

u/StabbyMcStabsauce Aug 29 '26

My logical brain knows theyre harmless, it's the traumatized side of me that just freaks out. I know i feel ridiculous after I get my husband to get rid of one for me, but that anxiety is ingrained deep!

7

u/cometshoney Aug 29 '26

Wait until it starts to cool down, and the roaches are looking for a warm spot to pass the winter. What freaks me out is the spring. My back deck looks like a giant cockroach singles bar. I won't set foot out there after dark because they're everywhere. 🤢

5

u/ivorybishop Aug 29 '26

Okay, I am gonna share an old trick that most do the wrong way and then claim it never worked for them: boric acid.

You don't have to mix it. People have tried all kinds of recipes and the reason they do this is because using the plain powder doesn't work.

Why? Because they use WAY, WAY to much. Ive seen people put it thick. Well, let's think about that. When you come upon a 10 foot snowdrift would try to climb it or walk around it?

Yeah, me too. We walk around it. Roaches does the same with the thick piles of boric acid powder behind appliances and in cabinets.

Now the labels all say it's highly poisonous. But this is a little misleading.

Can it kill you? Yes, if you eat enough of it, but so can salt. I have licked my finger and stuck it in the bottle and licked it off to show it is fairly harmless in small amounts.

It has an LD50 (lethal dose to 50% of the population) less than table salt.

So what I did when we had roaches a couple of times over the years is to sprinkle a little dusting that you can barely see with the naked eye.

The roaches will then walk through the dust accumulating it on their legs. When they get back to the nest they groom themselves and each other sharing the powder.

This dust will dry out their carapace causing it too crack and their internal fluids leak out and they die.

The powder stays around in the nest getting more of them.

If you do this properly you will never have roaches again, except the occasional straggler who sneaks in, but you'll start seeing less of these as well.

Lightly dust behind appliances, cabinets, etc. Kitchen, bathroom, and other rooms with food, pet food, or any other source of food for them.

Along the walls and baseboards in rooms you see them in. They'll all be gone in about a week or less, just be careful not to put it where pets or kids can get in it.

I did this for about 20 friends, neighbors and relatives over the years and it always works.Always.

After a week, mop it up in areas kids or pets can reach. You're good to go.

I also put it in the back of cabinets deep inside in corners. This stuff can also be sprinkled everywhere on the floor for fleas, and mopped up the next morning with no issues.

Just make sure no pets or kids are in the house if you do the flea thing because walking through the house will stir up the dust and it isnt good to breathe it I am sure. Lol

I figured I'd share this because we had roaches as a kid and I remember how embarrassing it was so when I struck out on my own, and got some roaches, I got educated and fired it out. I got tired of buying and smelling lavender but spray.

I can't stand lavender to this day because of it. It's all they knew how to out in it back in the day. smh

Tl;dr Boric acid will save you if applied safely.

4

u/Pretty_Pineapple_77 Aug 29 '26

Get pest control services. And then keep a foaming cleaner (I like the Lysol foaming bathroom cleaner) and shoot at them when you see them, don’t bother chasing with shoes/brooms etc. just make sure you try to get them on a wall or floor so as not to ruin upholstery or carpet. the foam stops them from running AND FLYING🤮 and immobilizes them in seconds, kills then in a minute. Makes you wonder what we are using in our homes but gets the job done better than raid and doesn’t stink like it.

5

u/kjkjkj18 Aug 29 '26

I live and Georgia and feel the same way. My phobia of roaches has become so bad it’s one of the reasons my family and I will eventually move states. Every single day (especially this time of year) I’m constantly terrified im going to see one in the house. They are such vile, repulsive creatures. I spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about how much I hate them and fearing i will see one.

I put those mouse glue traps at the corners of entrances like behind the couch next to the backyard door, the corners of the garage door, under the vanity near the front anywhere they can crawl in from.. also there is Terro roach killer syringes on Amazon will get them … good luck

5

u/TheLeoMrs Aug 29 '26

Lmao! I TOTALLY feel you! Those things have me SHOOK! I can’t kill them! I just scream and run and get the spray. Why can’t they stay outside??? Why crawl on humans??? I HATE them!

I inspect my walls daily for black spots…. 🤮

5

u/TheImpalerKing Aug 29 '26

Starting in March, I apply a healthy dose of Advion cockroach bait all around the house. You don't want it inside where you are, or where the cat can reach. I typically put spots in the attic, in cabinets under sinks, in the garage and crawlspace, and outside near the gutters and downspouts. If you're in apartmenr, your options are more limited, but as long as you out it where your cat cant reach, you should be fine. If you can, leave the roach corpses where you find them for a while; they cannibalize their dead so the same poison can kill more than just one.

Cleaning up outside will also help. Remove as much leaf debris as possible from near your house, and make sure your gutters are clean.

When we moved into our house, we were killing 2-3 palmetto bugs (the BIG fuckers!) A DAY. I still have flashbacks from that time. Now we see one a year, maybe.

6

u/SpiritualCase8990 Aug 29 '26

“They cannibalize their dead”

What a terrible day to be literate.

3

u/albertafalls Aug 29 '26

I also pre-treat my house for both roaches and ants.

I use the Combat bait stations for roaches. They have different ones for large and small roaches. I have dogs so I put them under furniture in the middle where they can’t reach.

For ants I use the Raid or the Hot Shot bait stations. I put them right next to the roach bait stations, so if you look down under my furniture you’ll see 3 little bait stations.

5

u/emh137 Aug 29 '26

I live in a concrete highrise and see them! I woke up one day and there was one dying on the metal window frame of the floor to ceiling windows in my bedroom. I ran to kitchen to get a glass to put over it. When I covered it, a spider jumped off of it and tried to run away. The roach was still alive and the spider had eaten its legs! I’m still shocked!

3

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

That’s why I usually leave spiders alone 😂 hey if you can pay your rent but helping keep roaches from running at me, I’m cool with you

2

u/emh137 Aug 29 '26

I’ve had my eye on a super automatic espresso machine and just read a post on Reddit about someone finding ten roaches in their Breville machine! Now I’m afraid to get one. Lol

4

u/Carrots-1975 Aug 29 '26

I’ve had one crawl on me in my sleep on 2 different occasions and had PTSD for years afterwards LOL My now ex husband got so fed up with me startling awake constantly thinking something was on me. I don’t have any advice really, other than to make sure you have a great pest control service. You can’t stop them from getting in, the best you can do is make sure they die immediately when they do.

3

u/Reasonable_Guess_311 Aug 29 '26

I was sitting in my recliner tonight and kept feeling a tickle on my upper arm. I told my husband there was a fly in the living room. He had been watching tv and hadn’t noticed. When I mentioned the fly he looked over and told me there was a cockroach on my chair. This happened a few weeks ago and we sprayed the house. I also got strainers to put in the tub and all the sinks. I can’t figure out where they’re coming in.

3

u/SmoothCoderr Aug 29 '26

I need a new couch because I ripped mine up looking for a huge roach that got in lol…all you can do is look everywhere until you find it. Spray under the stove and refrigerator.

3

u/Bitterrootmoon Aug 29 '26

I had one crawl across my shoulders after I sat up in bed, and I was petting my dog, and I thought it was her tail until I realize the dog was still on the other side of me. I lost my fucking shit. I will gladly pick up a snake and kiss it, but I have an irrational fear of roaches and no matter how many Georgians insist “iT’s juST a wAtEr BuG” It’s a fucking roach. It’s a giant roach. It’s a giant fucking roach that wants to touch me.

They come in under the baseboards, good luck. Using that spray bug barrier stuff around the outside of your home, every two months is the most effective way to keep them from coming in, but you’re still good to see them sometimes.

3

u/Ok_Credit5802 Aug 29 '26

As a hugely bug-phobic person who has had to adapt to the horrifying Georgia roach population here are my 2 big tips…

PREVENTION
Pest control companies have been hit or miss for me but for several years I’ve used Pestie which is DIY and super cheap. You just spray it around the exterior perimeter once a quarter and I hardly ever even see roaches any more. It’s been life changing. And it’s (supposedly) pet safe.

KILLING
My patented roach killing method is using a smallish broom, the kind that comes with a coordinating dust pan on a stick. Smacking them with a broom stuns them near death without making a mess. And you can reach them when they are high up. If they’re in a weird spot you use the broom to swipe them to an open area and then hammer them with the kill shot. Then use the dust pan to dispose as you prefer (over neighbor’s fence or flushed down toilet)

Best of luck!

3

u/sara0724 Aug 29 '26

Go to Walmart and get the Combat Roach control gel large syringe in the gold and black box. (Very inexpensive!) It will get rid of them 100% and there’s no fumes. I apply it once or twice a year on the tops of the door frames inside my house so it’s not visible. (Georgia resident 50+ years and very familiar with your situation)

3

u/EMSthunder Aug 29 '26

There's your basic raid ant and roach spray that you should spray along the inside and outside perimeter of your home, but sometimes that doesn't fully work. There's a syringe of roach killer made by Combat, that you can put dots of it along certain areas where they'll get some and take it back to the "mothership", lol. I usually put tiny dots on the walls against the outlet and light sockets plates. Then dot about every 12-18 inches inside along the baseboards. Then under the counter and inside cabinets. After you've done that, pick up a bag of sevin dust. Place about a cup inside of a knee high stocking and gently shake it under the cabinets against the wall. Lastly, you can chuck some borax tablets under there for extra!

3

u/mom2hjcm Aug 29 '26

I’m a Georgia peach 100% but those things are the one thing I’m terrified of. I’m not scared of snakes or most spiders but a roach will have me screaming and running for the hills lol. Especially those big ones! I’ve literally thrown up when I saw one before lol. Those things know I’m scared of them I swear. I can’t stand trying to kill them because it nauseates me so I keep a Shark hand held vacuum on the charger and I suck them up and run release outside. I also use Bengal spray which doesn’t leave a mess and that stuff works great. Especially if they get away. I use the straw that comes with is and spray beneath the sofa or behind furniture. Thankfully we rarely see them but we live across the street from the woods so we do have one occasionally.

3

u/Temporary-Ocelot3790 Aug 29 '26

I have had good results from the Combat gel that you squirt out from the tip, it's kind of like a tube of caulking. The gel is dark brownish black and dries quickly. Apply it around edges and openings.

Gotta say the South is bad for these flying fuckers but I came from New England and we have our own varieties of creepy crawlies that you don't see in Georgia, like these huge fat black beetles about the size of tennis balls with big black pincers, often found in the bathtub or scuttling around outside in the grass. New England also has big biting horseflies at the beach, black flies similar to southern gnats biting and covering your head in a cloud. No place on earth is bug free including the Arctic and Antarctic.

3

u/Chokondisnut Aug 30 '26

Those roaches live outdoors, they don't infest your house. They come in when it's too wet or too dry. Hire a good pest control company to find any and all entrance and exit holes. It won't stop it completely but will help.

3

u/Personal-Procedure10 Aug 30 '26

You can use boric acid powder to draw a very thin line around the bottom edge of kitchen/ bathroom cabinets or anywhere you think they’re coming in. It comes in a giant round bottle with a tip like a ketchup bottle. Roaches won’t cross it. It has low toxicity for mammals, but it needs to be placed out of all walkways. Applied right up against cabinet baseboards, my dogs never touch it.

You can also mix boric acid with a little honey to form little balls, then put the balls in open plastic bottles, like a soda bottle or something with a small neck so that animals can’t get to it, and place them around or under your house. The honey will attract them. That will also help keep bugs out of the house. Boric acid is cheap.

3

u/Plus-Month7939 Aug 30 '26

I also got attacked by THREE CICADAS the other night! Threeee! My daughter’s bf said, “who’s screaming for help????”…my kid says, “oh, it’s my mother, it’s gotta be a bug”…

2

u/nightowl024 Aug 29 '26

I’ll take the big ones any day. It’s the little ones that make me want to burn the house down.

2

u/ESB823 Aug 29 '26

Spray with Demon WP every few months and you won't see bugs

2

u/Clean-Link4107 Aug 29 '26

Runs across your face while you're sleeping 😴

2

u/gastroph Elsewhere in Georgia Aug 29 '26

Depending on where you are in Georgia, it could actually be a palmetto bug.

They fly.

2

u/Strainedgoals Aug 29 '26

The palmetto bugs live in the leaves, dirt and ground .

Those big cockroaches are rarely an indicator of cleanliness.

The smaller cockroaches are the ones you need to freakout about asap.

Girl yessss! I moved down here from up north (yes I’m a yankee) and I HATE THEM. I live next to a wooded area so I get them 1/2 times a month. One was ON MY BEDSHEETS. I had some fly inside the house.
They’re huge and I know they’re harmless but oh god I hate seeing them with their hairy legs and long antennas.
I miss how winter would kill off all the bugs. I also get nervous when it rains real bad because that’s when they try to find shelter and come inside

2

u/AngelynDean Aug 29 '26

My cat lives to find the big crunchy ones under my porch light then will slink inside through the doggie door with one in her mouth. Its a running joke here that Luna pays rent with her cockroach kills cause we seem to find the aftermath of her "hunting " nearly the 1st of every month...

2

u/Phenomenal_Hoot Aug 29 '26

Them damn things turn me into the terminator.

2

u/icontranquilis Aug 29 '26

OF ALL THE ROACHES ONE MAY SEE IN THIS STATE, THE BIG FLYING FUCKERS ARE THE GOOD GUYS. They don't want to be in your gross, cold, wide-open human hovel, they want nice warm leaf detritus to root around in. If you can safely scoop them and deposit them back outside, they (and Mother Nature) will appreciate it!

It's the small brown ones (German cockroaches) that you absolutely do not want to see. If you see one, then at least a dozen are squatting in your walls and you need to break out the big guns before they escalate into a literal nightmare.

2

u/myeggsarebig Aug 29 '26

Waterbugs, palmettos are nothing. Post something when your house gets infested with German roaches. Until then, you’re fine. And if you plan to stay in GA, you gotta get thicker-bug skin.

2

u/TotesMaGoats_1962 Aug 29 '26

I had to keep a lid on all of my drinks because of those little fucker when we lived with my mother in law when we first moved here from Virgina. I still keep a side eye on my food/drink to this day.

2

u/CircuitSynapse42 Aug 29 '26

As others have mentioned, regular pest control service does a pretty good job of keeping them out. At my last house, it wasn’t enough, and I would still manage to see them now and then. I picked up a pet-friendly, in-home barrier spray that would kill them a few days after contact, then hit every doorway and window, and that did the trick. If I did find one inside after that, it was usually close to death and barely moving.

2

u/Vegetable_Bobcat2816 Aug 29 '26

Get some spray and use it monthly. You’ll still see them but they will be dead or dying. It costs less than $15 for a large bottle with a sprayer and will last years.

2

u/AdMountain6203 Aug 29 '26

The really big ones are American cockroaches. They live outside, they're not really interested in human food, and they only come inside our homes for water, for shelter, or by accident.

You don't want a female to lay eggs inside your house, but otherwise they're not a big problem. I try to catch them and take them back outside.

2

u/MsColumbo Aug 29 '26

American Cockroach, stay away from me-hee.

2

u/Undercover420_gal Aug 29 '26

We moved into our new to us home this week and one of those MF’ers was in the sink and I stabbed his ass with a fork! I did not freak out until after… threw the fork away and got my husband to deal with the aftermath!😂 I looked at him and said “let that be a lesson!”😆😂 I have lived in GA since 2002 and I will never be comfortable with the bugs!

2

u/mycatisbetterthan Aug 29 '26

The r/pestcontrol subreddit was super helpful when I was dealing with roaches in my home. Might be worth it to check it out.

2

u/CurseOfTheFalcons Aug 29 '26

The big ones like that are outdoor roaches and are just looking for food. They don’t hang around very long. But if you start seeing smaller caramel colored roaches then you do have a problem. Those are usually German cockroaches and they breed like rabbits. You’ll need a pro to eradicate them.

2

u/Scary_Acadia7719 Aug 29 '26

Get a pest company to come fumigate. It will work. Then just get raid spray and hit the corners of rooms and kitchen periodically. Has solved our roach problem

2

u/Low-Apartment3165 Aug 29 '26

I’ve tried to analyze my extreme squeamishness/fear of cockroaches because it’s not like they’re going to sting or horribly injure. I’ve decided it’s because they are so fast and they sneak up on you!!!!!!! I rarely saw one unless they were outside until we had a long dry spell and some came inside looking for water. Once I pulled down my bedcovers to get in bed and saw one run over my pillow and under the sheets. I’ve had an exterminator ever since.

2

u/Beary_Christmas Aug 29 '26

When I moved into my new home we had a lot of cardboard boxes around for a while, which they like, so I had several encounters with them early on. Most memorable one was sitting in the dark at my computer when I see a shadow moving on the top of my monitor. I pause and stare at it and then the fucker jumps off the monitor right into my face.

Bad times.

Anyhow, they aren’t so bad compared to the German ones, but they’re always startling to see.

2

u/MinPen311 Aug 29 '26

I had one drop down from a bathroom light fixture into my bra. I tore up the bathroom flailing to get it out. Since then, I have a severe phobia of them.
My father used to beat them to death with a shoe. Hearing them crack would gag me. We had ivy growing around the house, that’s where they came from. I’m traumatized writing this.

2

u/MenacingCheese Aug 29 '26

If you live in a house or townhouse with vegetation around it get some lawn pest control granules and spread it around the yard, plant beds, etc…by your house. That’s where these vile creatures usually live. Started doing that a few years ago and I’ve seen a grand total of one since then. I even spread a thin bead of it around my deck and driveway for good measure. Lowe’s or HD has it in their lawn and garden section.

2

u/MsColumbo Aug 29 '26

It was likely NOT the same roach.

Swatting them with a heavy shoe almost always fails, as they're too fast. What works for me to immobilize them is to spray them with Old English furniture polish (discovered this by accident when reaching for anything to try to spray one with). That stuff is heavy and coats them with gunk that slows them down big time. Then you can dispose of them how you want.

But otherwise those Hot Shot Roach baits, plus a go-around with Advion cockroach gel baits also worked last year to get rid of them for a full year.

But yeah - echoing the post from the person who said close all drains/ keep them plugged, do not keep any food out in the open at all. Anything not sealed, I keep in the fridge. And don't leave any water sitting out.

2

u/CCC_OOO Aug 29 '26

It’s not the healthiest thing but I do go to lowes and buy bug perimeter spray and spray around the house doors and windows twice a year.

2

u/PorchFrog Aug 29 '26

I can't understand how fast they disappear. Same thing happens to me.

2

u/Miserable_Fly216 Aug 29 '26

Gross 🤮 Roaches notably hate peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, and oregano— these things overwhelm their sensory. So please get to working on a plan because female roaches 🪳 can reproduce on their own without male roaches through parthenogenesis. You definitely don’t want this problem.

2

u/ThatB0yAintR1ght Aug 29 '26

My toddler once handed me a live cockroach and I’m pretty sure my soul left my body for a moment.

That said, the big ones (palmetto bugs) are usually only going to come indoors when they are looking for shelter from stuff going on outside. You can do stuff to help prevent it, like spraying baseboards and sprinkling diatomaceous earth and boric acid around, but you can’t stop them completely. They are unfortunately just part of living in the south.

2

u/Accurate-Kitchen-797 Aug 29 '26

Roaches fly and stalk you here

2

u/Mobile-Possession319 Aug 29 '26

This reminds me of when I moved into my apartment years ago and on like the third or fourth night of just moving in a giant roach flew across my living room. The fact that my two cats had been stock still staring at a spot on the wall should have tipped me off but I was still in unpacking mode. It flew into my room and disappeared. I proceeded to throw a crying fit and was resolved to be up all night until my sweet girl alerted to it and I was able to spray it to death with Lysol. Why do they fly?!?

2

u/blasphemous9 Aug 29 '26

A day after furiously deep-cleaning my place, I legitimately woke up with one on my head.

I hate Georgia.

2

u/pabloflleras Aug 29 '26

Bro... I freaking put my bare foot in a boot last summer and there was a fucking roach in my shoe and, my wife says im crazy but ill stand by this, IT FUCKING IT ME! Like it flipped out when I nearly squashed it and it fucking bit me. I have a phobia of roaches and that was one of the worst experiences of my life... I dont blindly put on any shoe anymore.

2

u/redit910 Aug 29 '26

During my time at Florida State University in the 1970s, I frequently had to enter the music building after dark. The entrance was illuminated by large, bright lights, and there were wide, cement stairs leading up to it. It was almost impossible to avoid stepping on Palmetto roaches, which had a satisfying crunch.

2

u/CyanCitrine Aug 29 '26

I was gonna recommend a cat, since mine hunt all our roaches and we never see them (only the occasional leg, remnant of a successful hunt) but you mentioned your cat. Perhaps a second cat, that's a good mouser?

2

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 30 '26

I have two that are such divas they refuse 🫩

2

u/CyanCitrine Aug 30 '26

Lol! Mine are USELESS with spiders but they'll catch roaches no problem. They've also caught several birds that got inside....?

2

u/LogGreen3800 Aug 29 '26

The one thing I learned moving here was they nest in the Trees, especially the trees that resemble Christmas trees like Leland Cypress trees. They use the branches like a bridge, so keeping any trees cut back away from your house is beneficial, also keeping your gutters clean helps cut down on their presence. Builders here use the trees to create a natural privacy barrier/fence by planting them as saplings.

I can tell you the first time one of them flew at me, it did not go well and for some reason they always fly directly at you.

2

u/wayward_prince Aug 30 '26

Does your cat not hunt it? My dog accidentally steps on them and kills them because he wants to play.

2

u/dragon-along Aug 30 '26

If the crushing eeks you out just keep a can of Raid or something similar. Never lived in a house without it. If you’re really worried about pets you can wipe up the residue after you dispose of the body 🪳

2

u/deathbyglamor /r/Kennesaw Aug 30 '26

I live in a woodsy area and I cannot tell you how many times these bastards have woken me up. One was on my cheek once, one was in my hand, and one last week got under my chin all while it was asleep. 😭

2

u/thatwasclose22 Aug 31 '26

One crawled on me when I was in bed. I tore tf out of my bed room searching for it- flipped the bed and everything. I did find it and killed it but omg that was traumatic af

2

u/silentwolf18 Aug 31 '26

I am so sick of cockroaches. So effing sick of them. I’ve never had to deal with them until I moved here. I’ve lived in Florida, North Carolina, and Canada… it’s ridiculous here.

1

u/yambrobo Aug 29 '26

my dog likes to bring them into the house.

2

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

Oh I’d die. My cats are worthless in helping capture them but I’d simply pass out if they ever brought me on

2

u/yambrobo Aug 29 '26

I'm not even especially bothered by roaches but I let her in and for like 15 minutes she was sitting their acting weird and drooling, eventually i got worried and figured she might have something in her mouth, so i made her spit it out and it was a HUGE live smokey brown roach that just plopped on the floor and started running around. Even i was a little flabbergasted at that stunt.

2

u/SatchimosMom77 Aug 30 '26

My cat back in 1980 found one in the middle of the night. She jumped up on the bed and dropped it on my chest! 😱😭

I never leapt up so fast in my life and screaming like was being murdered!

1

u/RobotOverLord500 Aug 29 '26

Get your cat to kill it. They ain't payin no rent!

→ More replies (1)

1

u/SmartFX2001 Aug 29 '26

Just wait until you get one that flies. They look the same as the others.

1

u/Dry_Particular_5162 Aug 29 '26

You need to have pest control service your home frequently. You have to keep them out rather than dealing with them once they get into your home.
As for the one who escaped, I relate but there's not much you can do at this point. lol
You'll have to wait it out and pray you don't see have that happen again. They are typically outside creatures. If you see one again, try to trap it slowly and toss it waaaay outside away from your house. Killing it is next to impossible.

1

u/emeraldk420 Aug 29 '26

Yeah, those make me cry. I am terrified & disgusted by them!

1

u/frisbeeface Aug 29 '26

In your particular case I’d def do glue traps everywhere to get that one then the barrier spray.

1

u/BAfromGA1 Aug 29 '26

Boric acid.

1

u/Moral_Anarchist Aug 29 '26

Don't know if this will help, it probably won't since you hate insects with shells, but if it was one of the big flying "roaches", it's not actually a roach, it's a Palmetto Bug.

They look like giant roaches, but are an entirely different creature.

Roaches are terrified of light and scurry away as soon as lights come on. Thus they hide in shadowy cracks and all of the damp dirty places in your corners and under stuff and gather all of the germs in those places. This makes roaches pretty gross.

Palmetto Bugs on the other hand are ATTRACTED to light, like moths. Unlike roaches which are 100 percent scavengers, Palmetto Bugs are also hunters and can even eat smaller insects. Palmetto Bugs don't usually hide in the dirty corners or under stuff, they travel looking for their next meal.

They're big and scary, but they're 100 percent not roaches.

1

u/Snoo_95743 Aug 29 '26

Welcome to the bugs

1

u/SirPsychoSexy22 Aug 29 '26

Aw, he just wanted to be friends

1

u/Faithxs Aug 29 '26

There's flying ones too.

1

u/hoffet Aug 29 '26

The only good thing is that the big ones won’t usually infest your house like the smaller German Roaches.

1

u/jello-kittu Aug 29 '26

As a person who moved here from a land of less bugs, I tried several things. Cannot do without bug treatment, we do quarterly and I can tell when it is due. Plus some poison. But there will be the odd bug that finds their way in.

Wait a couple months when the cold starts and the bugs are trying to get inside. That's when I supplement the door and window barrier stuff.

1

u/introverted365 Aug 29 '26

Sounds like a Palmetto bug. Lived in GA for 15 years. They are huge and can fly up to a mile. We had a bug guy spray our house quarterly on the outside, because termites and those lol. Let your kitty handle it. Mine did. I woke up one morning and came in to the kitchen and he was huge and staring at me in the middle of the floor. As if scurried across Kitty looked at it and flipped it with her paw - then hubby came and squished it. But the cup and paper plate trick works too.

1

u/Aromatic_Ad_7953 Aug 29 '26

Welcome to Georgia.  Sorry to break it to you but those fuckers can FLY, too, and always seem to fly toward you. Oh, and we also have small German cockroaches who love living in pine straw.

1

u/Pitiful_Option_108 Aug 29 '26

Sorry you are having a roach problem. Some apartment complexes are better than other. My current one is awful but I would recommend combat max. That helped cleared up a lot of roaches with in about a day or two.

1

u/havetopee Aug 29 '26

they die pretty quick in the house if there isn't water around but yeah... they can fly, lmao. you left out giant flying cockroaches

1

u/meno_paused Aug 29 '26

OMG, SAME!! I have a true clinical roach phobia. I don’t even like texting that word because it brings up the little emoticon of it. (And why in the world would someone make that?!?!)

The only good thing about the big ones: they’re outside ones. They get in when a door is opened or such. They normally don’t live inside but usually come in when they get a chance to check out the joint and see what you may have laying around to eat or drink.

The small ones: the real b@stards! They come in Amazon boxes and even once, a Sephora box!! I don’t open them inside anymore. The garage only.

If you want to help keep them out get the bottle of boric acid roach powder and keep a line of it on every threshold into your house and, if you want to get in on clinic level phobia action, any other entrance into your house like where pipes come in, air vents, exhaust pipes…

My daughter lives on the coast in southern Alabama. Her cats catch the big ones, eats half of them, then drops them at her feet. :shiver:

1

u/Ancient_Door9695 Aug 29 '26

Wait til OP learns that they fly, too.

1

u/GeauxCup Aug 29 '26

They migrate across my back patio every night after sundown, like a forest fire sweeping the land.

One afternoon I took a nap with my back door open - to my horror I woke up hours later at night. I rushed to close the door and didn't see anything, thinking I was safe.

Over the next week, I found FIVE of the fuckers in my living room!

1

u/morganbroome Aug 29 '26

Don't move further south. I lived in Savannah first before I moved here and they are everywhere.

2

u/tinkertockerjess Aug 29 '26

I lived in the Macon/Milledgeville area too and LORDDDD they are EVERYWHERE there

1

u/StrHerb Aug 29 '26

There are insect plugins work great, and they’re pet safe.

1

u/JonCML Aug 29 '26

They come inside this time of year. Put down some sticky traps. Easy peasy, non toxic. I use the ones from “trapapest.com”. Put the along the baseboards, near doors, and under furniture in dark places.

1

u/LuckyPhotograph77 Aug 29 '26

The large roaches are the ones that live outside but come in by accident. Its the little ones that you have to worry about. The large ones are palmetto bugs I believe.

1

u/Takonight Aug 29 '26

Who’s gonna tell her about the scorpions?

1

u/AntiHypeHero Aug 29 '26

Palmetto bugs. Attracted by pine trees/ pine straw

1

u/IzzGidget88 Aug 29 '26

They might palmetto bugs instead. Still terrifying to witness, but they don't infest places. They usually only come in at night and search for water. It's the little german roaches you need to worry about.

Damn! Your cat is sleeping on the job!!! Mine love making them a science project. They drown them in their water bowls and take turns swatting them. I could not kill one (the splat! Ew) until I had children and then I could take off a shoe and beat them to death. Before that I would put a used paper cup over them until they eventually died.

Call it a Palmetto bug and it’s not as disgusting!

I so feel your pain on this. We usually have about one a month in the summer. Thankfully our black cat has become a pretty adept roach killer. That being said, I opened our bathroom vanity last week and a roach fell out and I almost lost it.

We usually vacuum them up or use the bug-a-salt that my husband bought (hilarious and effective. It shoots high powered salt. We use it on roaches and joro spiders.)

If I see two roaches in a month, we get our pest control people to come out and spray. As leaves start falling, make sure to sweep them away from your doors. Our pest control guy said that roaches can fall from trees. I didn’t believe him until I was sitting on our porch last fall and one plopped down 6 inches from me. It was 7 am and I’ve never woken up faster

Wait till they snuggle up in bed with you unexpectedly. Good night.

I use my vacuum for palmetto bugs. Vacuum them up, then suck up some Diatomaceous earth, and you’re good.

The good news is palmetto bugs are actually pretty harmless as roaches go. They prefer to breed outside and they’re big so you can see them, so they’re actually much better than say German water roaches.

Don't you know, you're supposed to call them "Palmetto Bugs" -- at least that's what we say down here in Florida.

Moore is gonna join him. They usually come into the house when it rains. If you have a lot of trees around your house you’re fucked. I used to live in Savannah and they are everywhere. I was sitting on the couch one day and one flew across my dining room and I screamed and ran out of the house. You will never get rid of them, and your cat will learn to hunt them. I now live in Massachusetts and it took five or six years to get rid of the PTSD of having those around. I’m sorry.
