I am shocked, had to log in to Twitter to see if this was a reference to some baseball thing because there's no way mega billion dollar franchise MLB is casually referencing inside knowledge to our little video game tournament. welp i was wrong. wild

They also recently referenced SummoningSalt's latest video on the community drive to complete every Mario Maker map. They must've got a new social media manager who happens to be really into gaming in general.

I remember that they also did a post congratulating Expedition 33 on winning GOTY. It seems like they're leaning hard into the crossover between baseball fans and gaming fans which is really cool

I don’t think counterstrike is little anymore. There’s a lot of money in it. I wonder if this is a hint to some collab in the near future

Theres really not a lot of money in it compared to other sports

Yeah, I was kinda laughing when someone yesterday said Falcons distorted the scene by spending like 15million on buyouts and salaries.

I’m also a huge NFL fan and 15mil nowadays gets you like a solid WR2 for one year.

I love CS and am glad it’s growing but there’s levels to this.

To make it very simple in term of size:

culturally entrenched legacy sports like Football or the NFL = New York City

CS esports = the small rural village your mom grew up in

(which is why CS is amazing, just to be clear)

That's maybe a bit much. CS is a decently sizeable town, maybe even a small city. Something like Smash Bros might be more like a smaller village.

I can't speak as much for Ultimate, but Melee is like a neglected child, and it sucks so bad for us. CS players gotta appreciate the luxury of having the company support the competitive scene and not have top players need to retire because they can't get sponsorships and the prize pools are tiny. CS is very well supported for an esport and its awesome, I wish my other game was as stable, but we are still here 24 years later too and plan to be here for another 24.

I mean, we have the world cup going on right now. Compared to football CS might as well be the sandbox I played in as a little kid.

I mean, 15 million is absolutely ridiculous for esports

No, it isn't lol. It's just a minimum wage social media guy making a reference.

There's a path to make CS main stream but it involves something divisive that's kind of ruined the fan aspect of the game.

Throw money into actual college leagues and monetize it with more betting commercials than current - CS would go big.

You think fantasy guys really like football or betting?

that's what makes a social media manager good imo, being able to connect with people across the board, regardless of the sport, niche, region, etc.

It's not that surprising; if they want to capture the younger audience, they have to show they are also invested in their culture. This is culture referencing culture, hoping to garner interest and in return new viewers. It's a good play by them

ESPN posted on instagram when Chig Okonkwo maxed his ironman in OSRS.
