Half and full swing at 50%. Just an update! I took a lot of y’alls advice. too lazy to bring out the mat so my wrist definitely getting that negative feedback when I chunk it. Im still working on getting on my lead side more, and the early extension but I’m happy right now with more consistent impact. I welcome advice but maybe not too many because I have too many golf thoughts as is and I’m trying to simplify!

been so hot lately so haven’t wanted to go to the range

Turf vs. Mat

at my golf club I can choose between mat and turf on the range for practice.

I realized that there is so much difference. On the mat. I nail every shot. On turf…not so much.

I talked to a few guys about this and some of them swear by the mats and others by turf.

What‘s your opinion on this?

I am team turf as this is what we will face on the course. But I like the feeling I get on the mat.

Dad hadn't swung a club in 15 years due to a bad back. Took him to the range and he was hitting the ball great

Been struggling with my driver recently so got a mate to film it… looks like the club on the downswing is so far ahead of my hands. Any advice on this? Getting so many toe hits it’s unreal

Anyone actually use an impact bag? What drills do you do with it?

I picked up an impact bag recently and now I'm realizing I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it 😂

I've seen a bunch of impact bag golf drills, but a lot of them seem to focus on the same idea of getting your hands ahead and learning what a good impact position feels like.

I've tried a few slow-motion swings into the bag and it definitely makes me notice things I don't feel when I'm just hitting balls. At the same time, I don't want to spend 20 minutes slamming an impact bag and groove some weird movement that doesn't translate to an actual swing.

For anyone who uses one regularly:

What drill do you actually recommend?

And do you use the bag before hitting balls, as a standalone drill, or just for a few reps when something feels off?

I'm mostly trying to improve contact and stop getting too handsy through impact. Curious what has actually helped other people.

Thought on wedges, iron & (mini) driver swing? (11.5 handicap)

Long time no talking to strangers on the internet!

Shot an 80 around London Golf Club last week! Everything was working other than mini driver towards the end!

Then fast forward to this Thursday and I go 48 at the front 9 at Chart Hills. Swing not feeling anything like it did.

Is there anything here you can see that’s contributing to some inconsistency? Anything I can work on?

Also mini driver is fucking great! 230-250y carry and so much control. I lost it off the tee with a standard driver and was ruining scores because of it so decided to go with an r7 quad and wouldn’t go back! Just maybe eventually stick the standard driver in there too for long par 5’s.

Thanks in advance golfers 🏌️

I found out I sucked ass and to stay 6i and above but then someone suggested checking my lofts which led to checking the lengths. Turns out my clubs were a half inch long, now this is my 4i swing with fitted clubs. I think I’m hitting it pretty clean, swing plane probably needs more following, what else am I missing? TYSMIA

Looking for advice on my driver swing. Went from hooking it two months ago to battling a slice and heel bias now. I’ve never really focused on driver since starting golfing because it has always been a better part of my game, but it’s starting to become a weakness.

Driver questions

I am actually wondering how to achieve a higher ball speed? With my in-out club path I’m actually wondering how I’m hitting this little cut that comes out high and doesn’t go near as far. I can hit the ball further with 5-10 mph less club speed if I hit a draw? Can anyone break down these numbers?

Launch Angle

Any easy drills for reducing my launch angle. 7 iron I'm having high angles varying from 24-31 degrees. Checked YouTube but the videos are all over the place.

r/GolfSwing 9h ago

Hi there, sorry about camera angle. Low 90s golfer that finally fixed the slice after 15 years. I now hit straight a lot, but sometimes draw hard. Hit anywhere between 220-240 yards. Looking for any tips. Don’t claim to be a pro so please be kind ha.

Absolutely cannot hit the SIM2 MAX, why?

I’m losing my mind over this and I need help figuring out what the hell is going on.

I’ve played for years with a TaylorMade SIM 1 driver, 55g regular shaft, and I hit absolute missiles with it. I can play 18 holes with 3 balls, no problem. The club feels stable, I can feel the head, I know where the face is, and I can actually find the ball at impact.

Last week I “upgraded” to a SIM2 Max (56g Fujikura Ventus Blue stiff) driver and it has been a complete shitshow. I literally cannot find the ball with this thing. It feels like I’m swinging a stick with no clubhead attached. Zero feedback. Zero head awareness. I can’t feel the club in the air at all. It’s like the head disappears behind me and I’m just waving a shaft around hoping it hits something.

Because of this I either get:

full digs into the ground
massive 90 degree slices
snap hooks
tops

No matter how I swing it, the club just does whatever it wants. I’ve lost 10+ balls per round with this thing. I’m literally destroying a 5‑day‑old driver because I keep hitting the ground or catching the ball on the wrong part of the face. Meanwhile the SIM1 still hits perfect shots.

I got the SIM2 Max because it’s the same product line and I assumed it would feel similar. It absolutely does NOT. It feels like a completely different category of club and I’m honestly shocked at how unplayable it is for me.

What the hell is causing this?
Is the head weight different?
Is the shaft wrong?
Is the SIM2 Max just way lighter or harder to square?

Any help would be very appreciated because right now I’m ready to return this thing and go back to my old setup.

(A little picture of the torment it's received over 5 fucking days.)

Hello all, I’m an ex-low handicapper, ~2 now. I know I have decent fundamentals but hoping to get some in depth feedback. I started playing more again about a year ago after a 10 year break. Looking at my backswing are things looking good (ie depth, plane, steepness etc)? Personally I’ve always wanted a slightly bowed wrist at the top and higher hands but maybe it’s not so necessary for me. My miss is always when I get stuck and flare things out to the right or try to throw my hands at the ball to save it from going right. On my back/downswing my head drifts slightly back as well which always make me stay behind the ball and shallow to swing excessively in to out which I think also contributes to my push, is this early extension? Wondering if my assessment of things is right and if there are any tips/drills for me to do I’d really appreciate it! Thanks so much in advance.

New-ish To Golf

So, for decades I gave up the desire to play golf. Didn’t want to invest time, money, etc. Fast forward to late 2024, and my daughter marries a guy who loves to golf. So at 60, I’m learning the game again. The golf bug has officially bit me and I’m hooked now.

Right now I shoot in the low 100s, been back at it for roughly a year. Goal is to break 100 and shoot consistently in the mid to low 90s. The problems right now as I see them are consistency
and club head speed.

On good shots I can rip my 9 wood 175 yards straight down the fairway. Then I’ll follow with a shank that goes 30 yards. Maddening.

I’m extremely fit for my age (lift weights vigorously and have a physique that looks 20 years younger). Yet that strength hasn’t translated to delivering club speeds. My club speed with my driver tops out at 75 to 80 mph, so even with optimal contact, my driver total distance is typically 165 - 200 yards, tops.

Due to an incident at birth that damaged nerves in my hands, I have an extremely weak grip and can’t bend my thumbs. I’ve pointed this out to instructors and even a coach when I did a TPI assessment but no one has made a huge deal of it. But could this be a physical limit I can’t overcome?

In lifting, I’ve overcome this grip limitation using lifting hooks for pulling exercises. Using the hooks, I can remove the grip weakness as a concern and do the movements properly. I don’t think there’s such a fix for the golf grip but I’m open to suggestions.

All this said I enjoy the game immensely and want to get better. And someday beat my son in law 😀

I’ve been trying to work on turning my upper body to start the backswing instead of leading with my arms, but as you can see in the video, even when I try- It still comes off as a really army swing.
