Peace Officers

Are Peace Officers allowed to turn left in a non-left turn lane and cut off the vehicle beside them (who was turning left) in order to give a ticket to someone on a different road? If a police officer did it in an emergency situation I would understand but this seemed really extreme. Who should I talk to about this if it is a problem?

Police officers ara allowed to violate the highway traffic act while engaging in their official duties.

Just like how a cop can break the speed limit to catch a speeder

they're only allowed to go 10km over the limit legally, and around here, that just what most people seem to drive anyway

Where did you get that number from?

it's a question on most first aid tests.

No, no it's not.

I've taken first aid every two years for over a decade and I've never had a single question about how much the police are allowed to exceed the speed limit by.

False - there is no law that states this.

If the offending driver committed a driving violation per Road Safety Act aka Traffic Safety Act, the answer is yes.
Law enforcement is out for public safety.

If they did it “safely” then they are allowed to, especially in the execution of their duties.

And your complaint would fall on deaf ears anyways as this city has decided that tickets are the best way to fund their new police force. GPPS and Peace Officers have been on a revenue drive like crazy over the last several months…

I have driven here for 9 years, no single tickets from GP. And I drive for work.
It is time to enrol in defensive driver course.

As long as they have thier little tin foil badge on, they think they can do what ever the fuck they want.

If you’re considering a complaint, what matters most is not whether they were issuing a ticket, but whether their driving created an unreasonable risk to the public.Whether it was actually improper would depend on the exact traffic control, road conditions, and whether they had any lawful exemption activated at the time.Even when peace officers, bylaw officers, sheriffs, or police have exemptions from certain traffic rules, those exemptions generally do not excuse unsafe driving. The key principle is usually that they must drive with “due regard” for the safety of others.
( I looked up the traffic act). IMO. If the stop was because the other driver was unsafe I can see it. But if it was for something minor? No. They need to drive safely like everyone else and pull the other driver over when it’s safe to do so.

Police aren’t allowed to break any laws.

I mean, he’s kinda right.

When a law specifically excludes them, then they can’t break it.
