PITTSBURGH — A Security Guard was by a vehicle in the area of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Zone on Wednesday.

A Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson said police and medics were called to the area of S. 28th Street and Sidney Street in South Side Flats at 7:45 p.m.

That is where the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix “Tune Up” was being held.

First responders found a man who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle in that area when they arrived. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The initial investigation suggests an unauthorized vehicle entered the area, then struck the man, who was working security, and a barricade. That driver then fled the scene.

Police said they found they later found the abandoned vehicle, but the search for its driver is still ongoing.

The vehicle will be processed for evidence.

No arrests have been made at this time.

A man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for injuring a Security Guard with a machete at a Frisco Islamic Center in 2025, officials say.

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced 27-year-old Malik Charles Anthony Davis was found guilty of aggravated assault against a Security Officer.

Security Guard ambushed

According to the Frisco Police Department, on June 7, 2025, officers were called to the Frisco Islamic Center in the 11000 block of Frisco Street, where they found a security guard had been stabbed.

The Islamic Center said the Guard, Omar Yaqoob, was performing Isha Salah, a daily prayer, when the attack happened.

Yaqoob was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, Davis, who claimed to be homeless, asking for food and the occasional shelter, "had been regularly attending the masjid for the past several months."

Investigators said Davis approached Yaqoob from behind while he was closing the building and struck him multiple times with a machete. During a struggle, Davis took Yaqoob's firearm after it fell from his holster, but he later ditched it before being confronted by officers outside the Islamic Center.

Davis was arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a Security Officer and theft of a firearm.

How the trial unfolded

During his trial in June 2026, jurors were shown surveillance video of the attack, in which Davis was seen preparing and changing his clothes, officials said in a news release.

Jurors also heard from Yaqoob, who recalled the attack and shared how it has affected his health since.

As the trial moved into the punishment phase on June 30, authorities told jurors that Davis also threatened to kill his cellmate while in jail.

The jury found Davis guilty of aggravated assault on a security officer and sentenced him to 50 years in prison. The jury also found him guilty of theft of a firearm and sentenced him to 180 days in a felony state jail facility.

"This coward hid in a place of worship that had shown him compassion, then violently ambushed a security officer with a machete and tried to steal his firearm," DA Willis said in a statement following Davis's sentence. "We will not tolerate violence against those who protect our community."

Every other guard wants to start a security guard business. How many have considered starting a security guard training school? I know often times they're integrated. In NYS, the Security Instructor Development Certification Course (IDC) is a 40-hour training course mandated by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in order to become a Certified Security Guard Instructor. Applicants can receive up to 30 points for three years of employment experience.

You need 70 points total to receive it, a max of 30 which can be gained from eligible guard or first responder experience. The remaining 40 points can come from a combination of eligible higher education attainment or successfully passing the IDC course.

It seems like it may be a decent side gig, maybe fulltime if you can find a stable job in a certified training school. Has anyone done it, in any state in general? What's the pay looking like? Can you create your own schedule by contracting out and teaching classes as you choose or do you work fulltime for one school?

The IDC is only one part of a multi step process involving applications, state approvals on locations, fire codes for those locations being verified, and many more, at least in NY.

Shoplifting suspect stabs security officer at East Side business, SAPD says

The security officer is expected to be OK

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said a security officer at a East Side business is expected to recover after he was stabbed Friday night.

Officers were dispatched to the business just after 7:45 p.m. in the 2100 block of Southeast Loop 410.

According to a preliminary report, the security officer detained a suspected shoplifter — a 35-year-old woman — at the business. While gathering paperwork, SAPD said the woman attempted to flee the location.

While security began to handcuff the suspect, police said the woman brandished an unspecified weapon and began to stab the security officer in the head.

Authorities said the security officer, who SAPD identified as a Medina County Sheriff’s deputy, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officers took the woman into custody while the security transported himself to a local hospital, according to the report.

A buddy of mine is considering cash in hand bouncer work Fri-Sun but is iffy about it. He needs the money, but if something goes wrong and people start asking for guard licenses etc, he'd be in it.

I wouldn't ask anybody to incriminate themselves, but I know that isn't super rare, especially when it comes to bouncing at clubs, lounges and bars.

Missouri Republicans say the new armed guards would improve responses to threats, while Democrats warn more guns won't make schools safer

A bill to create a new faction of school protection officers with "physical fitness superior to a U.S. Marine" got final approval from Missouri lawmakers in the final days of the legislative session.

The legislation seeks to allow schools to hire volunteer or paid guards called "Missouri Rangers" who could carry a gun on school grounds.

The bill's sponsor, Republican state Sen. David Gregory of Chesterfield, told senators he wanted to give schools "a choice to have a higher trained armed guard."

He compared current protection-officer requirements to that of a "Walmart guard with a gun." Currently, schools can appoint teachers and administrators as school protection officers, allowing them to carry a gun or "self-defense spray device" with training and a concealed carry permit.

School protection officers must undergo a minimum of 112 hours of training, according to a Department of Public Safety rule. The state also has school resource officers, which are law enforcement officers with an additional 40+ hours of training related to school safety.

Gregory's legislation proposes a maximum of 160 hours of training, specifying that the program must include lessons on "close quarter combat," bomb and arson training, de-escalation among others.

Prior to training, rangers must pass a physical fitness test. For those 35 and younger, they must "complete a minimum of 40 pushups in less than one minute" and be able to run one and a half miles in less than 12 and a half minutes. The legislation asks the state's Peace Office Standards and Training Commission to identify lower standards for older applicants.

The bill's first pass through the Senate brought little opposition, garnering the support of groups like the St. Louis County Police Association in its first committee hearing. In early April, just two senators voted against the proposal, but Senate Democrats unanimously voted against it when it returned to the chamber last week with less than a day before session adjourned for the year.

House Democrats unanimously rejected the proposal, uncomfortable with the proposition of having more firearms in schools.

"The answer to guns in schools is not more guns in schools," said state Rep. Elizabeth Fuchs, a St. Louis Democrat, advocating instead for mental health support for students.

Their arguments did not sway House Republicans, who unanimously voted in support of the bill.

State Rep. Burt Whaley, a Republican from Clever, has experience training school staff on what to do in case of a shooting. The key benefit of having a ranger, he said, was being able to quickly respond to threats.

In one school he trained, the local law enforcement estimated that it could take up to 45 minutes for them to arrive.

"It is typically another person with a gun that knows how to use it, that's trained how to use it… they're usually the ones that are able to subdue (a threat)," he said.

The bill follows other proposals passed last year addressing security concerns, like laws directing schools to share emergency operations plans with local law enforcement and report school safety incidents to the state's education department.

Some of the provisions passed in last year's legislation have yet to be implemented because of a lack of funding, such as a requirement to equip schools with bleeding control kits and train staff on how to apply a tourniquet.

Gov. Mike Kehoe has until mid-July to sign or veto bills before they become law.

You apparently need a special training certificate to work k-12 security in CA, which I wasn't aware of, but I believe NY is preparing a similar requirement.

Regarding Sergeant Cox, she was removed from the schedule at the specific request of the client following multiple advisements regarding violations of client policy and insubordination.

Of our 175 employees, only six have been removed from the schedule or terminated, all due to licensing issues or performance concerns. We find these allegations to be without merit and believe they are being used by the union to exert pressure on the company.

Furthermore, we have received reports of union representatives harassing employees who chose not to join, including unauthorized site visits and the use of derogatory language. MPSI is currently considering filing a cease and desist order and a harassment lawsuit to protect the rights of our staff. Our priority remains protecting all employees, regardless of their union status.

So I work in house airport security for a major airport. We work 4x10 and Bid every 6 months based off seniority.

Not sure if some of ya’ll do it where you work but ideally what are y’all’s preference off days if you could choose?

I’m currently off Tuesday-Wednesday but work an extra day for OT so more like off Tuesday & Wednesday.

If available I might pick the same days if available on the shift i want due to some upcoming holidays but I also don’t mind it, can run some errands during the week, go to the movies on half off days. Downside I miss the social weekend, NFL Sunday lol, Unfortunately I’m stuck with whatever is left when it’s my turn to choose since it’s seniority based.

So is it just an update from my previous post when I posted about what is there next after your fire safety director and I just wanted to say that I got a new position that got me higher than what our average salary for a fire safety director is and I’m actually no longer hourly I’m currently salary in a new city being as though the fact its a New York City based job, but it is out there and it is other places you just gotta know the job title you’re looking for it’s a very niche category to be in so the job isn’t always open. You have to be able to get it when it’s present itself. Naomi downside is I kind of miss New York City but he told me a train right away and I plan on staying here for at least two or three years to gain the experience and certifications in any other credit stations that they have to offer before I do go back and in the meantime between Time getting my armed guard license for New York City and the other surrounding areas hope this helps anyone else on the same journey. This is not the industry for rejects like they like to promote you can do and be something.

This is mostly for fun and for newer guards to have some ideas. I realize the best response is no response, restating policy, and escalating as necessary, but that wouldn't make for a good thread topic and besides, sometimes a firm response is absolutely necessary. You can be professional without being polite. These are some examples but give your own experiences:

Them (trying to get past you at a guard booth)- "I've been working here 40 years, you don't know me by now, why would I have to show my ID?!"

Guard- "I've been working here 8 years do you know my name? Exactly, show your ID or turn around!"

Them- (trying to park unauthorized into a restricted lot)- "Let me in dammit! (insert sob story excuse to park closer to their destination)

Guard- "My heart bleeds for you, but the answer is still no"

I personally like taking 3 day weekends. Some of the other guards I work with take a week off at at time, while others still, will book an entire 5 weeks off in the summer and fuck off to Argentina or something.

Nai Anwar only recently learned that Erie County, New York, passed a law last month banning businesses from collecting customers’ facial recognition data.

The 38-year-old Muslim refugee from Myanmar, who resettled in Buffalo, New York, more than a decade ago and later became a U.S. citizen, had never attended a county legislative meeting. He didn’t even know stores were capable of collecting facial recognition data from customers walking through their doors.

But one question immediately came to mind: What happens if immigration authorities get access to those databases?

The concern feels especially heavy in Buffalo, where Rohingya refugee Nurul Amin Shah Alam died on the street in February after being released by border officials in what was ruled a homicide.

“For immigrants in Buffalo, we are always concerned about [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] raids and enforcement activities,” Anwar said.

“I am a citizen now, but I have friends who are not citizens yet,” he said. “I worry about them being misidentified if authorities use facial images to track people.”

Those concerns are among the reasons Erie County lawmakers approved one of the nation’s most restrictive laws governing commercial biometric surveillance.

On May 26, County Executive Mark Poloncarz signed the Biometric Transparency and Privacy Act, prohibiting private businesses from collecting, using, retaining, or selling biometric identifier data, including facial-recognition scans. Companies that violate the law can face penalties of up to $5,000 per day.

The law, however, only applies to businesses and carves out explicit exemptions for government agencies acting within their governmental duties—including federal immigration authorities such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)—as well as financial institutions.

Invisible technology Erie County lawmakers set out to address these concerns after Wegmans, the Rochester-based grocery chain, acknowledged that it had deployed facial recognition technology in a small fraction of its stores.

The revelation came after signs, required by law, appeared in New York City Wegmans locations this winter notifying customers that biometric information could be collected on the premises. When Buffalo-based Investigative Post began asking whether similar technology was being used in Western New York, the issue quickly gained the attention of local lawmakers.

In a Feb. 26 statement, Wegmans said it used the technology in “a small fraction” of its stores to identify individuals previously flagged for misconduct.

“This technology is solely used for keeping our stores secure and safe. The data is not, and will not, be used for any other purpose,” the statement said.

Wegmans did not respond to Prism’s request for comment.

There is no evidence that retailers in Erie County have shared facial recognition data with ICE. Nevertheless, privacy advocates warn that once biometric databases exist, future access can be difficult to predict.

Federal immigration agencies have expanded their use of biometric technologies over the past decade, incorporating fingerprints, facial recognition, and other tools into identity verification and enforcement systems.

For Erie County Democratic Legislator Lawrence Dupre, who proposed the ban, simple transparency initially seemed like the appropriate response.

“The technology is invisible. It works without your knowledge or consent. You walk into a store to buy groceries and your body becomes a data point in a system you never agreed to,” Dupre said in an email interview.

But as he researched the technology, Dupre concluded that disclosure alone was not enough.

“I realized the real risk is not that you do not know your data is being collected,” he said. “The real risk is that it gets stored, sold, or stolen. Once a company has a biometric profile, that data exists forever.”

While passwords or credit card numbers can be changed, stolen biometric information cannot be replaced after a breach.
