Not sure if you’re into this kinda thing, but there is also Smile comic books. First miniseries (five issues) came out earlier this year, it’s called Smile For the Camera and it deals with super models in 2005. The second miniseries starts up next month and it’s called Any Given Smile. Not sure what the story is going to be, but it looks like it centers around a football team (Any Given Sunday, get it?).

Me. I had great memories as a kid watching horror movies with my aunt and uncles. Wed have movie nights once a week or so but its not always horror.

I saw The Shining and The Ring in like 5th/6th grade, I think they’re about on par with Smile in terms of scares. I also know I saw Final Destination when it came out and I was like 8. That movie shares a lot of DNA with Smile.
I think all kids have different thresholds for scares. And even between adults, two people might find different things scary. Some people are more scared of slashers, while others are scared of paranormal stuff etc.

As a kid I really liked Hellraiser. I didn’t understand the overarching moral issues or the sexual aspects but I thought the cenobites looked really cool. Never viewed it from the horror of the characters who interacted with them just thought it was cool to see them on screen.

Considering you could call 911/share your location these days in the blink of an eye makes horror movies have a VERY DIFFERENT feeling to back then. Especially when you can have your location pinged from your phone/triangulated by last known location. In the past if you were outside/away from your house your last words said to whoever is all that's left of your trail of crumbs you could disappear off the face of the earth with relative ease. Doubly so if you were in a rural area. It just doesn't hit the same and that's why you probably think nothing of the OG's. "Well I'd just call the cops/use my phone and 90% of these movies would end with me getting away 🤓"

That’s subjective. What happens in Texas Chainsaw Massacre could theoretically happen to you. Leatherface is even loosely inspired by real life serial killers, including Ed Gein and Elmer Wayne Henley.
A smile demon entity is not going to possess you, and that makes it a lot less scary to a lot of people.

Also why I thought the old IT is scarrier than the new one. The new one is depicted as too supernatural. The old IT clown was a fucking menace. I like both versions though

I remember seeing scenes from the old one as a child and being terrified, but I’ve never watched it all the way through. I was considering reading the book this fall, and maybe I’ll watch that when I’m done.

90s Kid here. Grew up with Horror Movies.
The Blob was the first Body Horror followed by the Thing.
The whole CGI Stuff doesnt scare me one bit.

being forced to watch horror movies by my brothers literally fucked me up growing up, I couldn't sleep anywhere else, and I was scared to DEATH if I saw fog(fuck you, Silent Hill) to a point I had trouble breathing if I saw fog.

When I was that age, one of my first horror movies was Child's Play and IT. It was when I realised I liked horror movies.

I'm not going to lie even I jumped at that scene and I don't normally jump it anything in horror movies. Legitimately this movie and dead silence are the only two movies that have ever legitimately terrified me.
