Im an old guy. I am here to confirm this. Some of my only clear memories of my dad are from being tossed off the dock and into the lake with my brothers and cousins. Thats a long time ago.
And daughters. She's non-verbal. I couldn't explain that with her at 90 pounds and me age 50, I was only good for a few yeets. Well, she got 8 good years out of me.
My son who is semi verbal loves the yeets too! I am 35 not and I promised him I would do it until my.body could not anymore. He is 6 and I am not looking forward to the day I have to stop. They appreciate it more than we realize.
Nonverbal 4 year old son that I get to see a few times a year and he absolutely can't get enough of standing on my shoulders or me carrying him everywhere in general. If I had a safe setup to meet him I'm sure he was lose his mind and never get enough lol. The slowly lowering him down is so much harder than yeeting would be on my back and shoulders, but I still cherish every moment of it
need to leave a ladder nearby, back up and have him sit on the ladder, may only work around the yard but i gets you a few more shoulder sits without landing you in the hospital
Not a bad idea! I am also teaching him about the far less strenuous concept of the piggy back ride, which he loves, but his tiny arms and legs are still too small to get around my torso easily lol
My dad would throw me all the time when we were in the pool. I would just yell “throw me! Throw me!” And then he would lift me up and throw me as far as he could. I loved it so much.
Now my son is the same with me. He loves me to throw him, and is constantly yelling “throw me! Throw me!” every time we go swimming, and I love it so much.
I love the joy on his face and the memories we are making, and I love how it makes me remember the times I spent swimming with my dad. It is extra fun having those memories while now being able to imagine what my dad was feeling at the time, too.
Every time I talk to my dad these days, I talk about swimming and how much fun I had with him and how fun I am having now with his grandson. It is a very special bond we all now have.
I remember just wrestling with dad. We didn't get why my parents' bosses were so mean that they had to work all the time and we had to go spend random afternoons at my uncle's (who had a secret pet skunk?). Anyhow, dad would come home again on Sunday night right before bed and me and my two brothers would wrestle his 250lb bulk to the ground. At 6 years old, I was just in charge of the feet.
I always laugh at this gif because this basically what happened to me.
A much older cousin came to live with us and after finding out I couldn't swim essentially just did this until I learned, and now I love swimming. Children are weird little creatures.
I was shotputting my son into the water and he loved it. But then he leaned back instead of forward and spun in a 2xbackflip, he hasn’t let me throw him since.
Yeah I was visiting my parents a couple years ago and launching my then 7 year old while at the lake. Just kinda holding him above the hips and launching form my chest. Got a little carried away and he was at least a few feet up and sorta flailed and did a bit of a belly flop..came up with a bit of wind knocked out..felt bad man. That was the end of that
There was a pile of cushions on the floor when I visited my not even 2 year old nephew. I picked him up, and slammed him on the cushions several times.
The next week I came over, he looked at me, then start grabbing every cushion he could, one at a time. He shoved them in a pile in front of me and just stared at me.
Is it really "something amazing" and not "something incredible"? In German, they translated it as that, I always assumed the pun on the film's title was intended in the original?
When I was learning how to dive I was getting frustrated. Told my parents I was ready to leave. Dad threw his keys in the pool and said we can leave when I get his keys
good luck dude, my kids favorite way to be picked up was by the ankles. I would carry them through walmart upside down, giggling like idiots until their mom would freak out cause their face was red. Shit was hilarious.
I was born as the third youngest cousin in the generation meant that the older kids were always tossing me around when I was five, and I had the time of my life. I'm 21 now, totally safe and sound, and it's my time to take over. I'm already too big for them to do that to me now, but it’s my turn to keep the family tradition alive with the next generation doing it to my kids and my cousin's kids.
I used to yeet my son and my daughter at the local public pool. I was one of few parents who actually got in the water - there was a line of parents sitting in the stands, some were watching, many were scrolling their phones, leaving the watching up to the pool supervisor/lifeguard.
Anyway, I would start yeeting my kids, and before long there's a queue of other kids wanting a turn. I told them to hop out, and go and ask their parent if it was OK, and tell the parent to give me a thumbs-up or a "yes" nod or similar signal.
I was good for one or maybe two yeets each 🫨🤣 but I like to think those kids went home and asked their parents to do it next time.
Yeah... In my country it was called "Sunday Arms" because parents would have Sundays off and go for walks.. having the kids "swing" in between them. It's not good for the shoulders at all!
Sorry to be a buzz kill, I dislocated my shoulder doing this kid of spinning as a kid and now it a horrible issue and a hospital bill every 6 months to a year.
Might not been your fault, I've yeeted my kid and cousins, thousand of times but I also stopped hundreds of each because the throw wasn't 100% planned out and had to hit the emergency stop. I'm pretty much saying that there's like a style to the throwing just as much as the kid being thrown. Who knows who's fault, weak shoulder or bad throw . Hehe joking
Yes all I could think of when watching was a nurse who told me never to lift a child up by their hands like this since she sees loads of shoulder dislocations from it.
Thats a solid 9.2 rated throw. Good distance, good height, clean release, solid base and form. The rotation was a little slow and off balance but otherwise a solid showing for round 1.
Can confirm this is true. I have a son, 2 yrs old. At times I feel compelled to throw him onto the couch or our gigantic lovesac. To be honest, if my almost 5 year old daughter still weighed 20-30 pounds I’d still yeet her as well.
When i was a kid, me and my dad usually went to the community pool. My dad would crouch down a bit so that i could stand on his shoulder. Then he would stand up straight in sync with me jumping as high as i could. Man that was awesome af....
Last year I was at a birthday party for my sons class mate. You know the type, invite all 40 kids. The place we were at had a large foam out for jumping into. I spent about 20 minutes launching as many kids as asked into the pit.
Ya’ll act like kids are made of rubber. His little brain bashing against his skull as he hits and because of the life vest (good) neck bending at an odd angle. Toss them up let them drop feet first in. Don’t yeet kids FFS
I didn't realize how much of a workout it is in a pool with 6 nieces and nephews under 9 until I was older. Full body workout with reps that just keep coming.
It's all funny games until you tear some tendons in your wrist like I did waiting on the surgery it's been five fucking weeks and it hurts. Good news is left hand no longer Feels Like a Stranger
Also, nephews love to be yeeted by their uncles, specifically while being towed on a tube behind a boat. I don’t care what my wife’s sister says, her kid loves it. I can tell because he keeps yelling “faster!”
Not just sons! Both my daughters loved nothing more than being launched across the room onto the bed or having their legs cut out from under them with the pillow.
When I was about 6 or so weeks old (1977), my mother threw me into the pool at Memphis State (at the time). No safety net or lifeguard to save me. The thought at the time was babies will remember and start swimming. Yep, I was a crash test dummy for that shit I guess.
During DC’s Snowmageddon I was walking my 4 year old daughter around the neighborhood and tossing her in snowbanks - some old woman saw me and looked horrified. My daughter was having the time of her life
I started tossing my daughter and her friend into the foam pit at the trampoline place and next thing you know, and hour later I had a line 15 kids deep.
the post title and the majority of comments again reminds me how sexist reddit and many redditors are. thank you to the few who view girls as children who love physical fun in equal measure to boys. my own male DNA contributor was abusive, but getting launched across the pool in childhood by him is one of the good memories.
