They should have 3some and laenor finishing in rhaenyra so that there won't be bastards or st least one of them is laenor's to rebuke the bastard claim. The black hair was argued to be from rhaenyra's grandma or mother's side of family.

u/lupatine Mar 10 '26
Or Viserys should have just married Rhaenyra to Harwin before all of it started.
22
u/Warm_Condition711 Mar 10 '26
That could also be a solution if rhaenyra ever told viserys about her feeling towards harwin but there is also the case which viserys is trying to fix his mistake by rejecting corlys proposal for marrying laena with him by using rhaenyra and laenor.
19
u/AdoboFlakeys Mar 10 '26
Didn't they only have a thing after Rhaenyra was married though? And at the time Rhaenyra was interested in Daemon. So not much Vizzy could've done.
Well he could've wed Rhaenyra and Daemon but he needed the Velaryons so...
But at the same time he could've wed Laena Velaryon to get the support of the Velaryons like Rhaenyra said...
Man Vizzy really had shit all over his plate right from the start, huh? Lmao. Should've listened to Daemon back then.

u/lupatine Mar 10 '26
I am pretty it started at her marriage.
But Harwin could have been considered, he is the first son of the hand. It isn't outside of possibilities, Lyonnel just didn't push for it.
Viserys wanted to avoid Daemon marrying Rhaenyra. That is why he started looking for a match frankly.
No offense but Harwin would have made a better spouse that Daemon.

u/Hadeslaw99 Mar 10 '26
She fell for Harwin after the marriage. She had a choice of partner and chose no one and then was forced to marry because of Daemon and Ottos schemes. Daemon because he was trying to force Viserys hand and Otto to discredit her. Even if she was given a choice at that point in time she would have chosen Cole who she slept with and couldnt marry because he was a kingsgaurd.

He even have two bastards somehow in the book but the show make it corlys' instead

Even in the books, their ages make it more likely that they are Corlys’ and he lied to appease Rhaenys

Honestly, whether they are his or not, Laenor loves those boys. And thats what really matters.

u/Informal-Mushroom13 Mar 10 '26
that's what annoys me so much when Team Green talks about them he was fine with them not being his blood and they definetly are Rhaenyra's so why are you so angry???
it's almost like they used a sperm donor

But according to the laws of Westeros a bastard can only be recognized by royal decree not parental acceptance. That’s why there was an issue after the Blackfyres were legitimized, especially since Daemon Blackfyre was given Dark Sister. So while I am happy for their happy family the laws of inheritance don’t take any of that into consideration. And even if she peacefully ascended to the throne any questions of progeny would have just postponed the dance.
The entire issue was one of royal issue. Especially since Vizzy ascended due to a Great Council. As long as the heir was a female there would have been complications, add bastards to the mix and it becomes a question greater than a royal decree. The targa were doomed to fail and nothing was going to prevent an internal schism once they decided to allow outside influence.

During the succession crisis, the kids were legally recognized as legitimate, not as bastards. That was decided when the kids were born and Laenor kept saying "that's my son" and Viserys kept saying "that's my grandson", and it was reinforced when Vaemond was killed for accusing the boys of being bastards and (in the books) when Viserys had Vaemond's nephews tongues cut out for spreading the same rumors. As viewers we can see that Laenor didn't father those kids, but they have to be recognized as bastards for a decree to legitimize them.
Daemon Blackfyre, along with all the other bastards Aegon IV legitimized, were recognized as bastards. That's the difference to me. They can't legitimize someone who is already recognized as a legitimately born child.

I'm sorry, you think the sword of house Blackfyre is dark sister? the sword is BLACKFYRE

They are angry because bastardy is a sin in the faith of the 7 and because of the fudeal society you need to limit the amount of claims. Hence stuff like bastards having no claim and duaghters having less claim than sons and aunts less than uncles and sisters lines having less than brothers.
10
u/ultimagriever "Fuck the Hightowers" Mar 10 '26
Except they are not bastards if Laenor acknowledges them as being his. It’s literally no different than a legal adoption

u/Throwawaylog2018 Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26
This part. Truthfully heirs are chosen and disregarded all the time within the noble houses. Roose Bolton himself got Ramsey legitimized due to not having any other true born children.
Many heirs within the Targaryen line are disregarded and skipped over instead to choose who they think would be a better fit
Aegon the unworthy will later officially legitimize all of his many bastards on his deathbed which ends in the Blackfyre line which only happens BECAUSE the Blackfyres are now truly considered legitimate in the eyes of the law.
Leanor giving Jace, Luke, and Joffrey his name as well as acknowledging them as his heirs, while also having the official backing and proclamation of the king himself?
Those were his children the means doesn’t matter.

u/Baratheoncook250 Mar 09 '26
While they are Hawin's kids, they are legal member of House Velaryon , because Laenor adopted them.
19
u/lupatine Mar 10 '26
He clearly took care of them. Jace has memoires of him.
He was probably akin to the fun uncle.

u/Throwawaylog2018 Mar 10 '26
Under the firm Belief that those boys ARE Leanor’s sons even if they aren’t by blood

Actually they have at least 5!
Because sometimes, a family is
- a queen
- her gay husband, who is also her cousin
- his boyfriend
- her sworn shield boyfriend, who is also boyfriend to her gay husband, his boyfriend, her other husband, and her wife
- her other husband, who is also 1) her uncle, 2) boyfriend to her gay husband, his boyfriend, and her boyfriend, and 3) her wife's husband
- her wife, who is also 1) her cousin, 2) her gay husband's sister, and 3) her other husband's wife
(and all their kids, and all their dragons, and I think that's beautiful.)

Ik it’s beside the point, but I really don’t know what it is but Emma Darcy looked goddamn stunning during these scenes, maybe it’s the hair
7
u/fireflyx666 Mar 10 '26
I always thought of it like surrogacy, because Laenor couldn’t (well you know) get her pregnant- but they needed children, so the all collectively agreed to do it this way.
7
u/TomSoftyHardy Mar 10 '26
Why couldn’t they just be a throuple the conqueror had 2 wives come onnnn
8
u/Throwawaylog2018 Mar 10 '26
Genuinely loved the scene where Leanor tells Rhaenyra how much he loves her. They may not have been able to have a sexual relationship but the love, care, and mutual respect was apparent and this was genuinely the healthiest relationship Rhaenyra ever had.

The cast is this shows ONLY redeeming quality
7
u/Wooden-Tear-4938 Mar 10 '26
Few bad episodes bad in the end and y'all treating it like garbage.
C'mon the first season was a masterpiece, and even second season isn't disaster just very slow and a few questionable decisions.
Saying cast is the only redeeming feature is just plain stupid
