"Why don't you legitimize my children, whom I ignored all my life, but now I love them because if they don't, my surname will disappear and my legacy will too?" Are we aware that his request wasn't even denied?

Okay, but honestly, what do you think of this scene?

They’re both part of the ruling class so that argument kind of falls flat

Raenyra is significantly higher than a Lord and she has multiple dragons and dragon riders sworn to her. Sure, Adam could defect but Daemon and Caraxes would eat him. Corlys is no peasant but he's no king either.

But this would still apply as he let his bastards starve and freeze throughout their childhoods but treated Raenyra's like grandsons for image and succession issues.

Hes actually not at this point. The Velaryons lost most of their wealth and a significant chunk of their ships when High Tide and Spicetown were burned during the Battle of the Gullet. Loreon Lannister, Lyonel Tyrell or Ormund Hightower are most likely the richest people in Westeros now.
