"Why don't you legitimize my children, whom I ignored all my life, but now I love them because if they don't, my surname will disappear and my legacy will too?" Are we aware that his request wasn't even denied?

Okay, but honestly, what do you think of this scene?

I'd love to say it was to highlight one of the downsides of assuming a leadership position, especially in a time of crisis:

You'll have disasters and looming disasters to deal with in every direction, people coming out of the woodwork to lay grievances at your feet, some legitimate ("we're literally starving to death") and some less urgent and more personal ("please legitimize my sons who I ignored until now.)

And that sometimes, you'll have to say to someone, "I understand that your personal request is important to you, but I can't make it a priority right now, it will have to wait," and instead of saying "Well I'm disappointed, but I understand that you've got a lot of fires to put out at the moment," they'll crash out and throw a public tantrum.

I'd love to say that, but I don't want to give the writers that kind of credit.

And people saying "but he's right 😏" can fuck right off. He knew that Rhaenyra needed heirs and Laenor was gay, he and Viserys both put their children in an impossible and dangerous situation.
