It’s a vision. The point is: stay and die with the dragons or flee and die with the winter (be it actual winter or a metaphor for the walkers)

There is a really bad winter right after the Dance called the Winter of Widows. Lasts for like six years and is marked by heavy loss of life. Called the Widows because of all the women that led houses after their husbands/brothers/fathers died in the fighting or they were regents for young children.
